Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
I understand the frustration w KAM but he sure seems like a guy the NYR could REALLY regret trading. He is a reasonably capable 2nd pairing guy now and it is entirely possible he finds another level of development in the back half of his 20s. I'll be JT Miller level pissed if he does that with another franchise.

Borgen played a lot of minutes with Soucy in Seattle so it's at least plausible that there's some thinking that Miller / Fox, Borgen / Soucy, Schneider / Jones/whoever is in their thinking.

And that first pair is probably to the Rangers benefit.

I actually don't get it really, no defenseman is flawless, they all make mistakes, it's just that people are so focused on the negative with him they aren't even acknowledging the positives. The whole team was ass this year, none of that helps

As appealing as Power might be, my understanding is that he's primarily an offensive defenseman without much physicality (or defense) to his game despite his size. Granted, I haven't seen Buffalo games other than when they play the Rangers, but, if that's the case, I don't see how trading for him actually helps us. Still missing that top-pairing guy to play with Fox.

I've been hopeful that KAM becomes that guy, but he hasn't yet. I'd rather keep him on the second pair and hold out hope since KAM essentially seems like Power with less of a ceiling and a much lower salary.

The captain hindsightism on Eichel is hilarious.

If the Rangers traded for him this board would have been littered with "always overpaying for damaged goods" by the same people who are pimping him now.

I can only imagine all of the reasonable takes if his first season with the Knights went down the same way in NY had he been moved here.

Shouldn't touch him as a UFA. Post trade Eichel has been who he was in Buffalo - A very good if not excellent player who is prone to injury. That isn't going to change.

Staple is a f***ing moron who should just go back to covering the Islanders full time.

They are not going to have to buy out Chris Kreider. Even this iteration of Kreider is going to pop 20+ goals while being a stand out threat on the PK and a factor on the PP (where he's owed a bunch of goals.) They won't have a shortage of takers for him.
Seriously

We move Goodrow and Trouba in 2 separate trades at full cost and get something back for Trouba*... but we have to buyout Kreider? Jesus christ the idiocy

Chris Drury doing AP calculus to figure out how to fiscally responsibly lock down our horse shit roster filled with 3rd pairing D and middle 6 players.

I'm so done with this season guys. Really sucks to even say this but I can't wait til the playoffs are here and we're not in them, so I can actually enjoy some hockey again.

Here's the problem I have though. I don't enjoy watching other teams win so I'll be checking out altogether. In the summertime it will be the draft and free agency that's what I'll be waiting for as far as hockey goes anyway.

But yea I'm not arguing he's been great, he's obviously having a career worst season. But I think we are just so accustomed to elite goaltending that when we get.. pretty good goaltending, we have people thinking he's the one blowing every game and the primary reason we're losing. I think we've been propped up by elite goaltending for quite some time.. and people act like Quick has been so much better, it seems like analytically he's been worse than Igor

You're saying that the 40 year old backup who had one elite regular season in his career is having a worse season than the guy being paid the most money ever paid a goalie?

And, in other news, Mika passed Kreider and is now 9th all time in Rangers scoring (points).
In 230+ games less played!

Mika will end up top 5 if not traded. He definetly have a better case compared to Kreider in regards to jersey retirement.
