Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
I don't think he's been as bad as people think but LOL at you using fancy stats when they support a guy you like.

At 11.5 he should be at minimum top 3 though.

But yea I'm not arguing he's been great, he's obviously having a career worst season. But I think we are just so accustomed to elite goaltending that when we get.. pretty good goaltending, we have people thinking he's the one blowing every game and the primary reason we're losing. I think we've been propped up by elite goaltending for quite some time.. and people act like Quick has been so much better, it seems like analytically he's been worse than Igor

Kreider couldn't pass a physical to close any deal with another team.

Quick has been worse.

The expectations are the only reason reason why people think otherwise. Quick has had some horrific games along the way.

Need to save this for when ever someone goes HFDoc

Jeff Marek's guest today was the Buffalo News beat writer for the Buffalo Sabres Lance Lysowski. The Sabres have major issues. The players don't trust the GM. Marek said he heard the Sabres owner Terry Pegula'a favorite player is JJ Peterka. Lysowski said Peterka is not happy. The Sabres will try to convince him to stay in Buffalo. I wish Marek asked him about the Peterka to the Rangers rumors.

That Ducks team was a nasty piece of work . They could play it any way with that roster and having Pronger & Niedermayer plus underrated Beauchemin back there gave them a big 3 of minute eaters . If I remember correctly they also had a fantastic 3rd line . They were built for that one year I would say .
Sammy Pahlsson and Tood Marchant

I am as ready to move on from Kreider as ANYONE, but saying his contract is "bad" is laughable. If he averaged 22 goals a year after inking it, the contract would have been acceptable. He averaged 37 in the first 4 years. Obviously a bumpy road this year. But come on lol.
At the trade deadline, there didn't appear to be much interest in him. Drury was willing to trade him. Why didn't the Rangers trade him last week?

Some teams will have more space in the summer. Kreider has the 15 no trade list which limits the Rangers options.

Kreider's going to have a sizable market. ++ Special teams player who with the worst of everything is gonna fart out 20+ goals. 20 goals plays in this league.

Eichel's not coming here and won't be pursued. Weird to see doomerism about a guy with 78 points in 63 games but like Kevin Garnett, anything is possible.

They're reloading this summer, some of the gaggle of 3rd pairing D is gonna get hockey traded. They're gonna deal the 1st+ for an LD with term. This has been a year where everything pretty much went wrong outside of Will Cuylle and they're closer to the POs than the bottom 5.

Can't believe I'm a relative optimist here but c'mon boys.
15 no trade list.

Power is 22 years old. His offense hasn't popped so far. Dahlin is the main guy there. Byram is there too. There are only so many minutes to go around. Stacking players in front of other players doesn't work.
His defense is no bargain either. He’s either a late bloomer or a historic level bust. And that contract!!!

15 no trade list.

Because any return would have likely been a futures based package as it will be this summer.

For a team that was on the bubble, that wouldn’t hade helped them immediately and I don’t know that the value would be all that different in a few months. I think the decision to try to hang around is dumb but it is what it is. At least they accomplished the bare minimum.

The rangers have enough good players to be good next year, but they have proven repeatedly not to understand how to build a good team, and they no longer have enough good players to be a good team despite the construction of the roster.

Just thinking back to how many assets the Rangers flushed down the toilet for a RW for Kreider and Zibanejad. It's embarrassing. Either those two were a good enough pairing to play with anybody so just pick someone and leave them, or they aren't good enough to get 1875470000 attempts to work with a RW.

We suffered how many years of Girardi dragging McDonagh down, now Fox.

This management group could've held their wad for two months and signed shesterkin at 3 million less or known to let him walk. But they needed a good headline after trading trouba...

my favorite was the "kakko sucks because he couldn't fix 93/20!!"

KAM is basically Power-lite. Both are huge, great skaters, and have good offensive tools. Both are prone to bonehead plays and soft plays that lead directly to goals against. KAM is just less extreme as Power in every facet.

How do you know there wasn't interest in him? And why didn't the Rangers trade Panarin or Miller(s) or Schneider or Trocheck? Was it because there was not interest or because Drury wasn't ready to blow up the team?

Also, he was on the IR for the 2 weeks prior to the deadline.

I understand the frustration w KAM but he sure seems like a guy the NYR could REALLY regret trading. He is a reasonably capable 2nd pairing guy now and it is entirely possible he finds another level of development in the back half of his 20s. I'll be JT Miller level pissed if he does that with another franchise.
I’d rather trade Schneider than Miller at this stage

At least if they trade Schneider you have something in the system to possibly replace him with Emery

Power & Petreka for Laf & Schneider would be an old school type of deal. My concern with Power is that he gets no PK time and Byram does. With that skating and wingspan, it should be a given
Power & Peterka sounds like a wrestling tag team.

It makes no sense to trade him, if we trade him we still need two top-4 LD. Unlesss Dahlin is actually asking out then fine and figure out the rest later. But right now we should be adding to him not subtracting him.
