Chytil is production pacing the same for Vancouver right now with 3 more minutes per game. I love Chtyil and he was a fan favorite, but he was injured a lot, and not exactly looking like the replacement for when Zibanejad is gone, or pushed down even further. I don't think we had other options for a JT trade. Chytil had to go.
Chytil was wildly over rated on this board.

Gustafsson is not having a great year with Detroit. If I were to guess both Detroit and the Rangers won't make the playoffs.

To comment on Othmann. I think he'll be with the Rangers full time next year. I think we're looking at a middle 6 forward though. He's not 1st line material. I think Cuylle is closer to that than he is. There are a lot of things I like about Brennan's game though. He'll play hard and physical....he's been fairly responsible so far. I think he does need to get to the scoring areas better than he has. Part of his problem since he turned pro is he relies too much on his shot. As a player goes up levels defenses and goalies just get better and better. Berard gets to the net better than Othmann does. He's a better skater than Othmann but he also seems to have a better sense of where he needs to go to get better opportunities. He's more of a pest than Othmann but he's not as strong or heavy. I think both of them should be good players for us. They're also still working at getting better and much like Rempe and Edstrom are works in progress. Having patience with them will be important.

I can't accurately assess the new defense until Fat Boy Tugboat Lavi is gone.
When your defensive scheme involves playing musical chairs with guys the whole team can't skate well (if at all), maybe it's a symptom of fat bastard's system?

This is extremely generous
Not saying they are home runs? Just positive transactions. @Shesterkybomb didnt even include Trocheck…

lol so 90% of the moves he’s made are great is what you’re saying
Where did I say they were great? You have people saying Drury is the worst GM ever and the only positives are JTM and Quick. Give me a break. He’s f***ed up for sure, but he’s also had a lot of positive transactions

It’s been 12 years since Tortorella. It was 14 years between Tortorella and Keenan. They may be due for another hard ass.

I understand the thinking but 3 things come to mind.

1. Laf has already been floating to the left side a lot in neutral zone. Not sure why.

2. Laf tends to stay to the outside and get squeezed on the boards on the left side. Id be okay with LW if he drove to the middle more.

3. We will likely need more than 50 points out of Laf and any 1st line players to succeed.
I was gonna put this in my original post, but my thinking is that if he can get 50 to 60 points in a season, the Canadien teams will over pay to get him. Just like teams will over pay for a big physical RD like Schneider. A big fast LD with a great reach like Miller. Trading those guys together would probably net a 1LD, a 3C and a draft pick. If not, keep them.

At $2.5MM retained it’s a cash push but bigger cap hit in the short term. Yes, if I can something of value back, I’m listening but I’m not sure what kind of return you can get. I suspect we will find out.

I should add it breaks my heart to see Kreider leave town in anything other than glory. A year ago, we were talking about his jersey ending up in the rafters. In a perfect world, he should retire as a Ranger.

It can be a cold business.
He can burn up some of that 6.5 mil in cash to warm himself up from this cold, cold business :nopity:

I know we have a bad defense but i refuse to believe we are that bad. I think our D would be better in a zone system and i'm not sure why Housley is still here? We moved out bad defensemen and the defense still sucks. Maybe it's the system at this point? Those guys who got moved out still suck but the same problems still exist with the new guys. We can't have an amazing player at every position but our defense shouldn't be this bad either. We need a LD for Fox regardless but the rest of the defense should be able to hold its own.

Before we trade any of our young dmen, i would like to see a new defensive coach try something different. Say what you want about Schneider and Miller, they are still fairly young and you still need to replace them if you do trade them. We invested this much time into them, may as well try to fix them. Put Fox with Miller for the rest of his career and then worry about Schneider.

And regarding Igor, i love the guy but it's insanity paying a goalie more than 3-4 million in this era of hockey. The last few years, you saw guys like Hill and Skinner go to stanley cups and actually win. You never heard of any of these guys but they are playing for cups while our goalie can't get through the ECF and now he can't even get through a season. If i was Drury, i would have traded Igor the second he turned down the offer. And the offer he turned down was already wayyyyy too much.

You don't need a goalie to win. Give me a big young goalie who can cover most of the net with a big defense that keeps everything to the outside with forwards who backcheck.

If Igor isn't literally winning us games then what the hell is the point of paying him that much? We all loved Hank but Igor is nowhere near as consistent as Hank. IMO, the worst move Drury made was resigning Igor.

Give me a break cmon. You’re ignoring a lot to fit a narrative. Here are mine. Draft is harder to analyze since it hasnt been that long since he took over and theyre mostly later picks. Hopefully we can add Othmann to the list next year.

Trades:
Trouba
Lindgren
Borgen
JTM
Lundkvist
Georgiev
Goodrow (waivers)

Contracts:
Trocheck
Quick
Carrick
Gustafsson
Fox extension
Chytil extension
Lafreniere extension (jury still out but I have faith)

Draft:
Perreault
Emery
Chmelar
Mancini
Laba
Sykora
Fortescue

Drury has been with this teams development a lot longer than he's been GM of this team, he was GM in Hartford before that where we saw the issues with Kravtsov and Andersson start. He's been part of Gorton's team, his number 2, so spare me the he only got here 4 years ago, his fingers are all over this rebuild with regards to the kids. If you want to look at the only constant from time time we drafted Kakko and Lafreniere it's Drury.

Missing the forest from the trees. Just because defense was bad doesn't mean it's defenseman always. Except for KAM random wanderings, those are obviously him.

It's forwards not back checking, not playing D, flying the zone, and not giving basic support. Same as it's been all year. No group of defenseman is gonna do well with this forward group.

And a serious lack of either playing through the body or just obstructing with your body and not letting people skate through. A lot of defense is not letting guys do what they want unimpeded.

Team needs a whole ass system refresh and 3 more forwards kicked to the curb (we know who).
Thank you.
