Thank you for your reply, and I guess I see your point. I just see Drury as the bad guy here, not the players, yet everyone sees the players at fault. If Drury is as pathetic of a human being as he appears to be (my opinion) I can’t say I blame the players for being upset. This isn’t the 60s.
Part of the bad guy GM thing was based on how the reporters were portraying things as they approached the players. You need to remember something that's really important here, the reporters have to deal with the players on a daily basis and maintain a wonderful relationship with the players in order for them to get the content that they need to do their jobs, and the GM is really only accessible a couple of times a year with this organization. He's not a guy that talks to the media every two weeks like some of the other guys. Are people like Vince their bread and butter is maintaining that wholesome relationship with the players and if you go back to a lot of the interviews and listen to how the questions were asked of the players and not just the player response what I'm saying might make more sense. Almost unilaterally the questions that were pitched to the players had a leading component trying to get them to dump all over Drury and meet him out to be the bad guy going back to the summer. I'm not saying that he's perfect by any stretch but I think that the reporting needs to be taken in context

The Smith trade was stupid the day we made it. As I said before those are the types of guys you get in the offseason as ufa guys for 1-1.25 mill

That's a big word.....
Hippopotamus is a big word too

How many players who scored 40 points last year signed for 1-1.25M as a UFA this year?

I'll answer it for you. Zero. The only one close was JVR who is old, slow, and bad defensively.

How'd you like it when we tried that move last year with Blake Wheeler?

Thanks. I don’t trust Drury though. Seems weird all this stuff about Kreider being the instigator of the revolt is coming out now. You might say the media feels like they can put this out since Chris might not be here, or that he in no longer influential. I might say Drury is putting it out to the media to ease the public backlash for benching/ canning Kreider. At any rate LGR.

lol yes we lost some value on the smith exchanges.

Just not nearly enough to get up in arms about.

We got more basically for free from Colorado a week ago

No, I was saying that way back when this started coming out in November and December the media was framing it as big bad Drury is an a hole. I knew what happening during the summer and I knew it was coming to a head right before Thanksgiving, I shared as much here. Then as the media got ahold of it all the questions to the players were constantly like "do you think the way things were handled is part of an issue" "do you think management should have handled things differently" and questions that lead the players to speak a certain way. Almost everyone with a podcast that covers the rangers was bashing and blaming Drury for the mess for months and slowly that has stopped bc more came to light, especially when Larry wrote that one article in particular going after certain players. When that article came out it made everyone pause bc the way Larry wrote it was very direct and it highlighted big parts of what was going on that publicly people didn't know. That's when the other writers stopped trying to point all the issues at Drury and the reporting shifted. Larry was in a unique spot that he didn't NEED the players to maintain his job, he's already a hall of famer and if the players tried to shut him out after the article he has the cache to slam them again. I know Larry can be all over the place but most people here don't realize the good that Larry did for the franchise by writing that article and that he was one of the very few that could do it in the manner he did. He had the platform, cache, credibility, and has the relationships to do it. If he didn't write that then things here are probably still just being pointed at Drury as to why things went to hell. Drury tried to start this roster reshape during the summer and the players fought back. Then the gloves came off...

Seems like a bust but at least it’s a lottery ticket. Not sure what else to expect for Smith, who has done nothing this year and is probably washed.

Rangers have too much cap space. There has to be something. Especially if we are also moving kreider.

Playing third party for retention purposes has been a popular idea around here, not that NYR have a horror of playing such a role
