Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

We’re not seriously trading Schneider because of how he played an odd man rush in 3 on 3 OT are we? Some of you need a cigarette
Laf isn’t going anywhere.

Not concerned with that or his play this season. He’ll absolutely bounce back next season with the new atmosphere.

He is a part of the core moving forward and you are insane to think drury is going to trade him a few months after signing him long term.
So he’s not part of the country club core, he’s part of the moving forward core. 🤪

they just gave up Necas for him.

I really do not want Rantanen but I'd trade Kreider for him as a rental.... Carolina wont

They are in a rough spot, teams that can afford him, IE Anaheim, San Jose have little chance of signing him, teams that are chasing a cup dont have the space. Carolina is either gonna have to keep him or make a deal, we're positioned perfectly for it. Thought I read Raantanen was open to talking contract before a trade. If we can in one deal or separate deals remove Kreider and Mika and add Raantanen were much better

I want to see Drury continue to be aggressive. The structure is returning to the team but we need another top 6 forward and a top 4 defenseman. Drury is slowly putting his mark on the team and dealing the guys he didn't acquire. I think K'Andre and Cuylle are the only younger guys I would wall off.

I kinda want some kind of seismic trade. Buffalo is the team imo. What could a package of Lafreniere and Schneider get for us?
If you are trading those two, I think Calgary with a lot of young D in their system, and Montréal are the two teams that may give us a buck twenty for our dollar.

Getting out of Trouba was the first step.

Moving Kakko was unnecessary but at least they got a low pairing RHD and signed him longterm to an OK hit.

Bringing in Miller was a no brainer considering the uncertainty of Chytil. Including the 1st is more palatable if they find a way into the playoffs or at least avoid the slide.

Removing Lindgren was addition by subtraction and he did very well bringing back not only the 2nd but players to help with the push.

Move Smith for a pick or two.

I agree that the focus now should be on finding a new partner for Fox, or at least identifying some targets with term who can eat minutes in the top 4 on the left side. If its Kreider involved to accomplish it thats fine. Just not sure where this player is and if the stars will align before the deadline. It cant be from a good team because they'll need that player in the playoffs.

Im beginning to think unless Drury gets his doors blown off with a deal they'll need to hope Kreider comes back before seasons end and proves he can still play so his value equalizes. This is all assuming he is using him as an asset in the deal for the LHD.

I could definitely see a separate deal featuring Kreider that is all about futures, but I think Drury is trying to thread the needle with an upgrade to the current club since the East is so wide open. Kreider is his biggest asset but his limited NTC list may be too preventative.
I don’t like Edmundson, but in Kreider’s weakened state, I could see Edmundson, Turcotte and a 2nd for Kreider. I don’t do it, but I suspect Drury can’t wait to get rid of CK. I don’t even know if Edmundson is a top 4 Dman.

Only way Rantanen makes sense is if Zibs is going the other way and Panarin is moved eventually.

I just don’t think he’s worth 13-14M
I agree.
BUT:
I actually said similar about trading for JT Miller and I think I was pretty clearly wrong there.

I wash some dishes and go on a client call and all of sudden now its Ratanen to the Rangers?

C'mon Arthur

The package going back to Carolina would likely have to center around Alexis Lafrenière, whose seven-year extension kicks in next season. Lafrenière has 35 points in 62 games and is one of the many Rangers who have underperformed this season. But he’s still just 23 and might be a fit in Carolina’s system.

The Canes would also ask for Gabe Perreault, the Rangers’ top forward prospect, who’s likely to turn pro after Boston College’s season is done next month. That’s a big return, but if Rantanen is willing to sign — possibly even an eight-year deal with the Canes ahead of a sign-and-trade — that’s one of the 15 best players in the league locked up on the Rangers roster.

If the Rangers could substitute Brennan Othmann for Perreault, that package plus either their 2025 or 2026 first-round pick — the one that isn’t going to the Pittsburgh Penguins via the Vancouver Canucks as part of the J.T. Miller trade — could be a winning offer among the few teams bidding.

The other player on the market who could motivate the Rangers to buy is Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro, who has a year left at a very reasonable $3.25 million and is only 26. General manager Chris Drury has brought back players in his trades so far this season to fill spots, but Ferraro would be an upgrade on the left side, especially with Ryan Lindgren traded to the Avalanche.

Sharks GM Mike Grier was a Rangers adviser for Drury, and the Rangers’ remodel began last summer with the Sharks agreeing to take Barclay Goodrow on waivers. If the price is right — perhaps Othmann and a high draft pick — the Rangers could add Ferraro to the mix on the left side.

Something to watch over the next 24-plus hours.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if its Rantanen to the Rangers for some sort of package deal with Kreider and maybe Smith. If Drury has any inclination that he would re sign here i could totally see this happening today or tomorrow.

If this somehow happens (i dont think it will), Kakko will be pissed he would've had a chance to play with his bud lol.

Send him packing and then bring in every finnish player in the league.

I don’t have an issue with the player per se. it’s just the contract he wants.

Maybe if we didn’t give Igor 11.5
