Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

I can't believe fans are really interested in giving a winger 13 million plus. A guy who we have no idea if he can perform at an elite level without having the best center (and probably hockey player) in the world to play with.
And to boot give up assets for him

Im not necessarily interested in paying him whatever he wants but I think it's equally baffling why people think he is entirely a product of MacKinnon. he doesnt fit Carolina's scheme in the slightest.

I am not risking 13 million plus assets to hope he fits our scheme. We need young dmen, picks and some way to get a young center.
Unless 93 goes the other way somehow.

Interested as to why you don’t think he fits Carolina’s scheme

Our entire d-core is under the age of 28. We dont need more picks unless we're going to trade them for NHL help. What this team needs is an injection of skill at the top of the lineup. Rantanen would provide that. I think you're gonna see Mika and/or Panarin go this summer. Im not stanning for rantanen as the guy we "need" but he's an available option we should investigate.

lmao the devils basically have three playable forwards and they're trading for a defenseman when they have plenty of options on the back end. Starting with the moves he made this summer, Fitzgerald is doing everything he can to slam their "window" closed.

Exactly.

Ok if Panarin and 93 are gone this summer than sign Rantanen then

Fitzgerald is what people think Drury is

Drury’s ability to identify talent and proper fits for this lineup has been pretty damn good. I know there are reasonable debates that can be had on the value of asset involved in every trade, but it’s pretty clear he and his team have a good eye for spotting underrated NHL talent. This is something top teams like VGK, TB, FLA, etc are all excellent at.

This is the first time during his tenure where he’ll have some cap flexibility for any sustained period. The only time he’s had it was at the 2022 deadline and he did a great job there. I do think there’s some reason for optimism that he can be creative and do a lot of good with extra cap space.

I feel like a decent amount of these large returns on rentals is due to the retention aspect. Rangers dont have to worry about that, not that I want any rentals.

Kreider, Jones, Sykora, and a pick for signed Raantanen, are we close?
Send Mika to Vancouver, they're looking for a top 6 C. How we looking then?

I dont think Rantanen is going to sign with anyone before thr TDL. Whether that's with the Canes or whoever trades for him.

that's about as bad as it gets for a GM.

You're going to get a quarter back on the dollar spent because he's a rental.

Kreider for Rantanen

Carolina would probably rather just lose Rantanen for nothing than trade him to the Rangers
