Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Y'all remember how Grier just took Goodrow of the waivers, and some people thought that Drury might be owing him a favour later on?

We could just about do it as it currently stands with the salary cap. And obviously the Rangers would get some compensation.

If an injured Frederic at 50% nets a 2nd and 4th, what is Reilly Smith worth?
Who cares that he is injured? Teams exchange medicals before trades. The fact he's injured might actually be a positive for his value because if Edmonton can hide him on ltir and now also go out for one of the other big fish that they're in on the trade for Frederic actually becomes more valuable.

Also I would take Frederic 10/10 over Smith any day. Frederic legitimately impacts the game and he's difficult to play against, Smith is just... there

Kreider for Bichsel
If his height began with a 6 he’d have been a lineup regular as early as last year
he’s just small. He’s just not big enough to move people or to find success on the boards consistently.

In a playoff series against a heavy team it will be a detriment

We had Fox and Lindgren this whole time. Having jones in the lineup made us really undersized. Maybe it can work a little better now but I still see Drury and co moving him

Isn’t that Parsinnen? I don’t know if another C is a priority if they view Parsinnen as a long term 3C.

Im not sure they view him that way. Maybe as a long-term 4C. Carrick is 32. Center depth is not a bad thing either way.

Other sports have things the NHL doesn't. Any reduction in clauses is going to come with other concessions on the part of the NHL. Younger UFA age, maybe.
Shorter max contract term is something the pa has wanted for years, and with the new growth of the cap they will push for it even harder now...

I’d rather the team make a move for a center rather than another wing in Tuch at this stage. But what do I know

Wondering what a Tuch addition would mean for Laffy long-term. Purely speculation.

Our team needs are a C and a LD though imo. RW a distant 3rd, especially with Mika playing well there.

Grier already owed Drury a favor for handing him Ty Emberson on a silver platter.

Parissinen is best to be a 3rd line winger that slots to center when needed in the top 9, so we don't have brodzinksi go from a scratch to a top 9 center role when there are injuries.

This doesn't make any sense. Why did they just pay for double retention when they could if just put him on LTIR? His cap hit now is i believe 600k...not exactly big game hunting with that.

Your vision of Frédéric is horribly wrong this year. He is none of thise things.

It's no my vision, it's the league's. Don't come at me about "my vision" when numerous teams were trying to trade for him and he landed a great return. That's not bc of my vision, he's highly regarded around the league.

As for the double retention, team can't just trade for a guy to toss him on ltir without being compliant. The oilers are potentially going to pull the LTIR game until playoffs game 1 with TWO players this year with Kane and fredric, no one (team or league) wants the optics to be that the oiler "knew" he would be out the season before they even got him, not with the Kane situation lingering the way it has. Wayyyy too structured...

Greg Carvel is a good guy. Prioritized character when he was with St Lawrence. He's not wrong- even though Jones is an atrocity around his own net he does deserve a real chance somewhere.

The thing is, there are a million soft, small PMDs like Zac. A couple make it, many end up in the KHL or SHL.

And people seem surprised that a college coach is backing a former player in the media in a world that coach/player relationships determine recruitment and very much plays a role in job security??

The Rangers really need to move from Kreider and Panarin. It will be hard to move both players in the summer. These trades are so hard to make.

Vince didn't mention Panarin. He heard the Rangers portion on the 32T podcast because he referenced Reilly Smith not going to a Canadian team.

Hughes might go on LTIR. His season could be over. Unknown. He might need surgery.

TB will be a buyer.

Smith to Tampa. They have 2 second rounders and waived a couple players to make space.

Devils using cap space to facilitate other teams should tell you about their outlook on the rest of their season
