Speculation: Roster Building thread - Part XVII - (TDL is March 7th)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
I don't actually know if a stat like that includes majors, but knowing the people who track that kind of stuff, I can't imagine that if you agreed to fight somebody, they would count that as having drawn 5 minutes. It doesn't present a man-advantage and these people are very into even strength versus special teams. Like, that doesn't pass the smell test of anything people into analytics would do.

It obviously counts considering Mackey played one game last year, fought, and was credited with one drawn penalty.

Well that's f***in stupid. What's the benefit of drawing a penalty that doesn't give a man-advantage?

They need to revise that.

I'm sure they count it because the NHL lists it as a drawn penalty. They should obviously make up their own second stat which would be any sort of drawn non-matching penalty.

I was all for keeping Kakko and have said so for years.

That being said,

Let's remember Kakko is on a terrible team that's losing all the time playing more minutes and more important minutes than he did with the Rangers. His ATOI is whopping FOUR AND A HALF more minutes per game. That's a crazy increase. 13 to almost 18.

He himself said he didn't do enough with his opportunities here. He'll be a good NHL player for the next 10 years and, as much as it sucks, it wasn't going to work here.

The reason it wasn't gonna work here was because he was mishandled.

Coaches scratching a guy to play a different guy who will just sit on the bench is my absolute favorite.

It's annoying because we have young players who could potentially provide a spark for a listless team, but Laviolette (and Drury by extension) are giving an insane amount of runway to the veterans on the team when they show us every other game that they've quit.

If this Organization is serious about getting better, put Othmann beside Mika and Cuylle, leave Lafreniere with Miller and leave it like that til the end of year. No in and outs, no stupid demotions for the odd growing pain, just let Othmann play with confidence. They can't keep making the same mistakes with young players, this is why we can never make it over the hump.

My new favorite is a coach scratching a guy for 19 games in a row and then giving them 18 minutes of ice time and/or throwing them into the top 6.

If they weren't good enough in your estimation to play for nearly 20 in a row, why the f*** are you giving them all that ice?

jeez what happened to Berard? he brings the energy this team needs and can actually make a play here and there. Nobody even mentions him anymore.

He should be up, but I believe he was injured for a stretch when he went back to Hartford.

Jayson Megna played 6 games for the Rangers and they were all on the top line.

Looks like Kreider is going to be a GTD? He didn't take any line rushes at practice. Just did PP work, albeit on PP2 mostly.

LOL

Cmon Mike, we saw this song and dance with Zuccarello for 3 months before the 2018 deadline when he knew his days were numbered. Kreider has been defiant and going at 3/4 speed since his name leaked in that memo. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Isbister with Jagr
Christensen with Gaborik
Blackwell with Panarin.

Somtimes its about fit, not talent. Especially when the roster doesnt have enough talent to fill a top 9, which happens to us frequently.
