It's gotten really old. They just kind of decided the defense was set and took three years to realize Trouba sucks.

And then they swapped him for Borgen, which is lovely, but then kind of just went back into set again. They still haven't addressed the left side.

I think Miller is good enough playing with either Fox or Borgen, but they need somebody who can play with the other.

I mean, it's speculation, but you'd have to think Drury was trying to jettison Trouba to add something on Fox's left side over the summer but things played out as they did and the Rangers didn't have cap space for much of anything.

Lindgren and a 3rd for Chychrun is roughly what the Caps paid. I'm certain Drury would've loved to be in that position.

They had the space to make a move and trade Trouba later.

They didn't want to do that because they had to give Lafreniere a dumbass raise and didn't want to risk not being able to afford him and Igor next year.

That still would have given them another calendar year to trade Trouba which they did pretty easily.

The Rangers were in on Dillon, Roy and Walker but didn’t love the costs, either in cap hit or term. That speaks to the fact that Drury knew the defense needed to be revamped but didn’t see the right guy. That on top of Trouba playing hardball kind of tied his hands.

I don't think so - Trouba cockblocked them into a corner. Let's give Lafreniere's contract a little more water under the bridge before we judge it. I'm less enthralled with Igor's raise, to be honest.

Drury played it a little safe but I don't blame him for doing that. He basically had to threaten Trouba to trade him.

What about Sanderson from Ottawa. I thought he looked great in the Championship game. Only 22. That's the type of player we need.
was trying to get him 2 yrs ago.
Offered multiple deals, including LaF +
He is their most immovable guy

@bernmeister was right about him.
He is a stud.
We don't have anything Ottawa would take in return for him. I mean maybe if Lafreniere was a legit a first line player plus plus
Thank you for the shout out
THIS is what I mean when I say I call shit out in real time as it is happening, and I don't get props til later, when peeps say, oh, he WAS right

yr pt is well taken
there is no package that gets him now

ok It's Sat 5:45 ish and Rs just gave up a g to Sabes b'c
Zib sucks ass and can't be bothered to look up and play any defense

and yet I gotta catch shade b'c some fool keeps telling us Zib is our best player lately, he is scoring, etc etc etc

Zib IS NOT our best player not our best player NOW
and also, the whole team basically has had an off year,
SO EVEN IF that was true WHICH IT IS NOT
it would not be a big whoop since the elevation of Zib's game is not that big a deal in a vacuum, it just looks better atm b'c Rs are mostly playing like a bunch of losers.

Nobody wants him. He's been on the block for months and allowed to talk to other teams. We've already seen numerous similar players waived/included as throw ins for a trade.

I would guess the most likely scenario is he is not qualified in the off-season and he signs a two way deal elsewhere.

Or he’s thrown into a deal . I’d agree little value regardless

How is Lafreniere the dumbass raise and not the worst starting goalie in hockey?

We need a shakeup. Laf, Fox or Igor. Don’t let anyone get comfortable.

If Drury had ANY balls he'd trade Igor before his NMC kicked in. The worst contract in history. At least definitely Rangers history. The Bobby Holik deal seems like the bargain of a lifetime compared to this scrub.

we should def trade Shesty ++ to LA for a huge haul
side benefit, it would send shock waves to Fox as well
w/those 2 gone that should be enuf to make sure everyone else gets the message

Shesty is worth the $ taking into account someone would pay that and it was either sign, deal him for less as a rental, or deal him now w/term [keeping a fallback option].
He's had an off game on top of rust and coming back from injury
Should have gone Garand today Quick tom

Of course, some who prescribe to win now and instant gratification may disagree

I'd fire Drury too, but Laviolette needs to go after this game. There are no two ways about this. The team is just NEVER prepared to start games. The best you ever get is an even first period. I know their second and third periods suck but why is Buffalo ALWAYS prepared in the first and the Rangers just never give a f***?

It starts and ends with your vets man. This core is done for.

Correct, and Drury not only didn't trade this aging core when he had a chance to get good (or any) value, but he doubled-down by extending Zibanejad, traded a young guy in Kakko, and traded our first round pick for another vet.

And if you think he's gonna commit to a rebuild, boy oh boy are you in for a surprise.

Then he has to go.

I don't know if I hate Drury as much as I hated Sather, but it's definitely up there. I got the sense that Sather was somewhat lazy in his old age and resting on his laurels. Drury is just flat-out not good at his job. He's just objectively bad.

Then he has to go.

Why would he? Drury has to prove himself to Dolan and he just traded our first round pick next year (let's face it, we're going to keep our pick this year because we're not making the playoffs). He extended Igor, he traded for Miller, he extended Borgen...these are not rebuild-signaling moves.

It's like Joe Schoen with the Giants. Everyone knows he's on the hot seat, so why would he care if he went all-in on this season? What does he have to lose? He either wins and keeps his job or he loses and doesn't. He's not looking 2-3-4 years into the future.

Desperation can make a man do drastic (and stupid) things.
