Charts, videos, poster opinions, etc are what they are, good, bad and subjective, since everyone can look at them differently, if you really want to.
To me, I saw Fox start the tournament on the top PP unit and first pairing D. After that first game he was off the top pair PP and was on the third pair, where he basically played the least amount compared to the other 5 Dmen. Even Sanderson, a second year player who came in for MacAvoy after his injury played more than Fox in the championship final game...So, the coaches, who have won multiple cups behind the US bench, saw Fox's performance THIS tournament as not very good. Those are facts, not charts, videos, or opinions...

I dont think he was great in the tournament but why does that mean we should trade him?

He likely will be a big factor on the larger Olympic ice with his skills . I think we see many different faces on both clubs come then . I hope Canada does not select their roster on past heroics and really thinks this one through or they will get beat out for the Gold .
I think Hughes will learn from this tournament. It would be great to trade for his speed. I thought the Olympics was going to be played on NHL size rinks but I may have read that wrong.

All 4 coaches...??

We don't know what we don't know if he's nursing something or whatever else, either. There's a whole lot of assumptions being made and nobody knows shit.

If 3 coaches say X and Sullivan says Y, Y wins, as well.

The over the top takes on a guy who is probably our best D in 25 years, who's all of 26 years old, are absolutely incredible.

Mind boggling-ly so.

Do you think the 'charts' are like something someone's kid drew with crayon at school?

They're just visualizations of tracked events—visualizations meant to help the viewer quickly glean some high-level understanding of the data they're made up of. You could just as easily present them in a speadsheet. Or in a written sentence. Or in a conversation.

You're right that USA did do just what you said. Team USA also lost the tournament. They scored 5 goals over the last 3 games. They drew one penalty in two games against Canada because they never had the puck.

I'm not saying Fox was spectacular, but the facts even by your limited definition don't exactly make me want to bow to the altar of John Hynes and David (.435) Quinn.

I dont want him traded. Fox is my favorite Ranger since Hank.

I want to know why he looks so crappy this season. I know his results are similar, but the eye test is startling.
I think the easiest approach to this is to remember that pretty much the entire New York Rangers team is having a wet fart of a season and sometimes these things just happen.

Does anyone think Miller/Schneider could ever be our top shut down duo ....the heavy lifters ? Could it happen ? I don't care about the rest of the D .....just wondering if possibly these guys could defend well enough as a duo ? Do they have that upside in them ?

Yes...it might mean Fox has a bit more of a diminished role defensively but would still be the PPQB and a stipend for O zone face offs. A lesser utilized Fox might be a more productive Fox.

They both need to be more physical but they are big guys who can skate, so yes.

Also being totally glossed over for reasons that I maybe half understand is that this tournament didn’t actually matter. The players were literally playing for a cash prize and Rolexes.

If there wasn’t politically charged tension between the USA and Canada right now I’m not sure how much non-hockey fans would’ve actually given a shit about it.

I agree for sure . Schneider should have that in him . I think he needs a larger role . Miller...maybe he could play on the second pair with Fox ? Early numbers /graphs/charts have said they would work . So....finding a guy to play with Schneider possibly solves many problems . One can dream .

The team badly needs a major LD upgrade. They have missed many oppurtunity's to do so. I agree with you that we dont need to necessarily find a partner for Fox, because I think Miller is that. It's asinine they havent committed to it more.

If you could play Schneider with a Hanifin/Chychrun type our defense would look so much better.

Miller-Fox
Chychrun-Schneider
Vaakanainen-Borgen
Jones

Top 2 pairs can easily handle 20+ minute workloads. And Vaaka and Borgen can give you 18.

I don't think the players considered politics at all. They were just out to prove something in a best on best.

I also doubt half the fans were thinking that way either. I know I wasn't.

Adam Fox hasn’t played a “shut down” role since Gallant was hired.

That’s been Miller-Trouba and now Miller-Borgen.

I would imagine Miller-Fox took them out of necessity when that was allowed to be a thing but I’m not sure about that.

Anyone calling for him to have a diminished role hasn’t been paying attention. It’s been that way for years.

Which stinks cause he’s good at it

We may see Kreider , Miller, Trotchek as a line ?
No idea about lines but I would give Laf 1 game with JT to prove he is ready to skate hard in our last months of the season. Maybe try Will-JT-Laf? Or Laf-JT-Mika?

So is the plan to get Jones minutes to get scouted in Hartford then trade?
I do not know but I fear the market for some of these guys has been very soft so far in part because like us many teams do not know if they will be buyers or sellers. I was very open to Jones earning a job this season. I'd still be open to keeping him if the trade return is low.

No one is saying he played well in this tournament, just that it's irrelevant to his NHL career.

"Sidney Crosby had 1 point in 4 games in the 2019 playoffs. He had 2 points in 6 games in the 2021 playoffs. These 2 playoffs prove indisputably that Sidney Crosby is bad."

That's the level of takes we're seeing here with Fox. The clowns have finally gotten together to make a circus.

I just want to see more physical improvements/commitment from Fox. He is a galaxy brain. A minor improvement physically would make him that much better.

Yeah and those playoff series are a lot more relevant to his career in the NHL than an All Star tournament.
