Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Cancel the season. We needed all three pre-4 nations games to stay in the hunt. Why would you invest in the team that could not pull it together to beat the Crosby/Malkin-less Penguins. Is that same team going to beat the Panthers? Do we want the indignity of giving the Maple Leafs their 2nd playoff series win in the last 20 years? I'm not sure how money puck calculates playoff odds but before this game, NYR were at 48.2% and the Penguins were at 1.7% and after the game, the Penguins have more points than us in the standings (2 games in hand). I think someone else did the math. We need to go like 20-7 in our last stretch of games. Bracing myself for an epic fail TDL.

No brainer. Won't happen tho. LIndgren/Smith should be gone.
Panarin/93/Ck too but unfortunately they are "big" names and Dolan won't have that especially during the season.

At this point, I'd almost rather buy at the deadline, just to ensure we give up the 1st this year rather than next. We're not finishing low enough to get a difference maker without a lottery win.
 
Drury misread the room or he was just trying to save his job and butchered it even more. Not sure why JTM wanted to come here. It's been crystal clear that this team was/is dead. Trade everyone and give the team over to Chytil. He was our only true heart and soul player.

Call up Berard and Othmann, sit Brodz and Vesey. Stop F'ing around, team looks slower than molasses and we need fresh legs. I feel like this coach is trying to kill this team, how can you put Brodz as a 3c and have Mika on line one, it's donkey behavior. Mika, Kreider and Smith had all year to do something, it's not happening. This first line with Miller on it will rev up Laf and Othmann, Berard will push the pace on line 2, the 3 goonies can play shut down on line 3.

Part of me wonders (hopes) there is a Rangers option clause in there. Like if their player is gone at exactly #13, can they give the pick to VAN to save their 2026 pick?

Laf Miller Othmann...the no defense line..love it
 
I really hate that Cuylle and Laffy are getting 13-14 min a night with no substantial special teams time while the team is a bubble team at a wildcard spot this year.
Both should be concreted in the top 6 next year. And put Laf on the f***in 1PP already

Cuylle and Laf have not produced. What have they done to earn more minutes?

Convince them to waive NMC andSell Panarin and kreids to the highest bidder for good assets.
Zibby likely stays due to horribad season, NMC and contract.

KAM traded as well by TDL.
Lindgren too.

Reilly smith and vesey go for whatever someone will pay.
Play Cuylle and Laffy in top 6.

Call up Othmann, Berard and give guys like sykora and chmelar a cup of coffe stints to evaluate them in nhl.

start of next year run

Perrault/UFA-Tro-laffy/zibby
Berard/othmann/UFA vet/trade assets
( hopefully a winger like Zetterlund)
Fast hungry kids, move Tro/Zibby down if need be.

Obviously, whatever assets they get back from trades above would yield a young FWD/D or 2 ready to be on roster for bottom 6 and 2nd or 3rd pair D duty….

Basically, that’s the bones of it…
Can Perrault break on roster? Or give him heavy min not in NHL.??

They will obviously add in UFA with cap going up, but they can/should get a few young impact players 23-27 years old that are solid NHL players already.

I hate his logic.
Can’t produce, but no opportunity. SMH ….
I hate seeing Zibby and Panarin fancy pass and avoid paying the price to make the needed ply and the needed time….
Move them all, make it TRo and millers lockeroom, leadership wise

Up until June 30th Panarin can’t be traded unless he agrees to it.
Waiting until July 1st could pay off better when other teams will have more cap room to play with.
But you’re right, he needs to go.
