Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Pretty frustrating that after JT and the Canucks did everything they could to drive his value as low as possible over the past week, this is basically the deal reported to have been on the table a week ago (Fil, prospect, protected first).

well i forget the complete terms of our agreement, but if the pick dies not convey until next year and we trade it at the draft for 1yr of a player, do i still win?

I do know I want to see Miller where Zibanejad used to be on PP1. Miller in the left circle, he's comfortable there, and Panarin on the right.

I do like that.

I could care less what the other lines are.

Cuylle deserves that shot and meshes well physically with JT.

Laf can up his physicality as well and he needs to be moved from Panarin because he's lulling him to sleep. If he starts moving his feet again that could be a dynamic line. And if they are serious about changing the culture/core than it needs to be centered around Laf going forward.

But my guess is Laviolette will do the dumb thing and go Panarin Miller Laf or Kreider Miller someone

If Drury can get another solid two way 3C like Ryan McLeod from Buffalo this team could roll out a ton of looks which could make it really tough to match up against. All 3 guys can win faceoffs which should take some pressure off of Tro (chytil and Zibs arent/werent great at faceoffs).

Rangers can go any combination of Miller, Tro, Zibs, McLeod, Carrick at center. Miller and Tro can play RW and I would bet Zibs can also play RW. Way too many line combos and could be a match up nightmare in the playoffs for opposing teams. Teams would have to think twice when putting their 3rd pair defense on the ice.

Get a solid dman to replace Lindgren too. Seriously I can't take watching him anymore.

Drury can also say screw it and get Frédéric to play 4th line RW from Boston if they continue to struggle. He has been pretty terrible this year so might get a deal on him.. Another guy that can play C if he had too. Tons of grit and lots of depth. They would wear down teams in the playoffs.

Doubt any of this happens as Drury seems to love Lindgren and I would be shocked if Drury added anymore forwards after the Miller trade.

The trade was a steal value wise, however it only works if this is the beginning of a series of moves that ends with a purge of the BFF's. Whether it's at the deadline or over the summer, Lindgren, Kreider & Mika need to be off this roster before opening night next season....Panarin going certainly wouldn't bother me either. With their money off the books & the rising cap, this team will potentially have a bunch of money to spend on upgrades.

Miller is enough of a dick that he's going to start affecting the bffs. He will break up some of the bromances. Drury brought him in here knowing full well what Miller is. Drury isn't trying to change Miller, he's trying to change the room...

Why are you guys upset miller is coming off 3 straight 30+ goal and 80+ point seasons, including over 100 last year and is signed for $8M for 5 more years with a rising cap. This trade is a joke for vancouver

Why is it a good thing he is signed for 5 more years? He’s already shown signs of declining this season, and starts next season at age 32.
 
Canucks with the ol’ “here’s a shit trade, so let’s caste away your attention with this other shit trade” move.

Reminds me of when the Senators let Alfredsson sign in Detroit for dumb reasons then traded for Bobby Ryan. Then they were forced to sign him to a terrible contract to justify the trade.

I mean if we're seriously ass this season. We get a high draft pick. We likely then are able to really be true contenders next year, which gives the penguins an absolutely shit pick.

Both work here. Worst case scenario is 12th overall.
