Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I will not say that this will work, but this is exactly how Vegas operates and has operated since their inception. Maybe the extra cap space news for future years pushed this over the finish line.

They've done it with LTIR space, but it's how they went about it. Underperformers were removed and new players brought in.

Pacioretty was given away so they can add players. Trade for Hertl and Eichel on LTIR. Trade for Hanifan cause Stone was on LTIR. They burned picks and prospects and the farm to do it.

I know a lot of the league will have more cap, but so will the Rangers and they will be able to make more moves and signings. Players will want to come here.

Its going to catch up to Vegas eventually. It will catch up to the Rangers too and I hope that it won't be too far down the line.

Hm, I saw a tweet today that JT was considering Colorado as an option. Then bam Drury hits the trigger. Funny how that works.
Drury the only man in the league falling for the oldest negotiating tactics in the book. Haha

JT has more even strength points than Mika, both goals and assists, more points, same amount of goals and isn't going to have a panic attack during the game.
5v5...not even strength. That includes 4v4 and 3v3.

Also, Miller has 7 goals and 21 points at evens. Z has 6 goals and 16 points at even. If Z is the worst contract on the Rangers and not a 1C, Miller is literally the same guy.

32 years old.
Well since we pretty much don't have any relevant picks for the next 50 years or so this is it.
I am just glad GP wasn't traded (oh by the way he was a first rounder we just used a few years ago). This team trades away picks like candy.

If we weren't a 35-40 percent chance to make the playoffs maybe this deal would be a joyous one but if this team just misses the playoffs its a disaster of a trade.

Its a much more formidable team on paper, than we started the season with. The team badly needed a culture change. JT wears on people but this Rangers roster needed to start taking shit seriously and there's no doubt he does. Its not a coincidence that Kreider, Mika, Vesey are all former teammates and Trocheck is a friend and tracking to be the next Captain of the team. I hope they can catch lightning in a bottle with his ex-Rangers teammates the rest of the way. The Four Nations became a lot more interesting to me. I kinda want Kreider to go now. I wonder if JT can spark him again. Kreider is not this bad as much as I rag on him recently, he controls his Rangers destiny now. This is a move that should theoretically help him a lot.

Most likely more change is coming this summer but Im pretty excited to watch the team do battle over the stretch run and into the playoffs. The naysayers are always there but if they Rangers get in they are better equipped to win it all than they have been in past year. The center depth is legitimate.

Coaches do dumb shit all the time.

People wanted a culture changing trade. This is a culture changing trade. That’s the bottom line here. We will see how it works out.

It's a step in that direction.

I'm not expecting them to make other big shit immediatley bc I know how hard it is to pull that shit off midseason. If the plan is to roll with the current group+Miller it's a massive fail.

I really wish this was something they could have done a year ago. They would have been f***ed with #55 playing top 4 minutes most likely but this player would have fit in really well with that group.

This year's iteration is kind of ass but yeah, not a move for just this year.

Cyulle - Miller - Lafreniere

Do it
I completely agree and suggested the same thing above. The Panarin line is stale, their numbers are all down this year, put AK with them since they need a shooter. Put Laf and Cuylle with Miller and let the 2 cancers simmer on the third line.

This team needs more Millers and Trocheks and less Mikas

This would make sense.

People will bitch but he’s blocked here.
Mancini was NOT blocked
Lindgren should have been moved 2+ yrs ago
also Jones is decent but while ok for depth
no ? Mancini was the keeper

I like Mancini but it’s not like he’s a blue chip prospect. How much value could he possibly have, a high 2nd?

Takes a lot more than that to get Miller
Not blue chip, but more than solid, run of the mill
And if they nurtured him when he got here and was an emergency add instead of letting him flounder so they could play vets instead of developing youth, then he likely WOULD have blue chip status

yes, takes more but the pt is Man was wrong currency

I dont mean to be rude, but does anyone expect Chytil to have a long NHL Career? He's an injury from retiring. I hope he succeeds and stays healthy, but it's not a huge deal to lose him. Mancini? Meh. Had to pay something and it wasn't Gabe or Othmann.

I'd have to see what the 1st round protections are.

But really, the trade means nothing, if we don't upgrade the defense.
no way to know, but there is enuf hope that you go w/expectation he may need a few days off here and there, but is not likely totalled.
consider
Juulsen + Ekblad both had serious -- am I wrong, I think worse -- concussions, etc and they have recovered

It is fair to say, obv he carries risk, but again, was the wrong currency to pay given jtm wanted out

The question is now how we can move Mika
2 ways:
a) sit him 111% for obv reasons
b) play him hope his value goes up while jtm says he is not taking shit from anybody and helps nudge Mika out

I personally suggest a) for now

Management thinks the right side is set with Fox, Borgen, Schneider. Mancini became expendable
you are right to say that is what mgmt thinks
Howev
mgmt is wrong
and @RangerBoy and others and I are right. Fox should be sold high

If Trocheck can keep JT motivate I think this will ultimately be a big win for us. We kept Schneider. We have good protection on the first rounder. This team and the vets needed a jolt. I like JT’s fit in the room much more than Trouba’s and we badly needed a physical top line center.

This is side-splitting stuff. The medicine is flowing now....

Dont worry Bern....I like the very low rent in there....
don't worry,
I am not susceptible to equiv of Jedi mind tricks, which, incidentally is another thing someone is apparently feeble at

truth is what prevails ultimately

the entire board can see who is substantiating their critique and who is not
be guided accordingly

Add this to your long tally list of things you were wrong about @bernmeister
NO, not wrong
b'c
I did NOT say, this was the deal that WOULD BE made
I said
this is the deal they SHOULD make, which is a lowball offer, but the correct move given jtm was desperate to get out, and that we should exploit the situation.

Unfortunately, jtm since moderated saying he would consider other relocations, which sent a message to Drury I am not gonna wait forever.
Canucks read the tea leaves also, and did not cave

Drury blinked, and overpaid in the sense he used the wrong currency.

The silver lining is there are pros and cons to this deal, the pros being, to illustrate with a chess term, like 'counterplay' to the obvious read on the surface
