Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

who was asking why all the kids talk hockey on Reddit instead of message boards these days? I think we've found our answer, because I'm assuming Reddit doesn't completely shit itself over JT Miller...

How do they have no cap flexibility when they only added 3.5M in cap space and the cap is expected to go up 7M next year and 16M over the next two? The impact on the cap is very minimal here. I think people treat this like Chytil is on an ELC type contract and Miller makes 10M. Their cap hits aren't that far apart.
If you take a cursory glance at puckpedia, and look at who they have on the roster and who are RFA’s and what they could realistically be projected to get in terms of AAV, the Rangers will have about 2M in cap space with 13F, 5D and 2G. That’s not a lot of cap flexibility when you have this team and need to add a top pairing LD at the bare minimum.

Miller is a long term piece for the Rangers despite his age. 5 year contract. Cap skyrocketing. He and Trocheck will be the veteran leaders for the young and up and coming core. They will outlast Kreider, Panarin and hopefully mika. Now time for Drury to find a partner for Fox and a young center.

I still think Mavrik Bourque could be that young center...I've always been high on him. With Heiskanen hurt, not sure if Dallas will be looking to buy, though.

Felt like I could always see Reilly Smith ending up there as part of a deal. Maybe with Jones.

Big stretch thinking the locker room is going to be repaired with JT FING MILLER in there now. Dude is a known mess. And just you wait for when they disrespect LINDGREN. The room is going to melt into a puddle of Zima
JT is fine for a couple years then he wears out his welcome like Torts. Its really not going to take much to top this year.

You guys just absolutely took us to the cleaners.

You just got a 100-point matchup C who ate McDavid for lunch in their last head-to-head for a bunch of spare parts. This deal might win you a Cup.

The Miller you traded away isn’t the one you’re getting back. He’s an absolutely fantastic player. He’s still a spaz with some baggage but when he’s on he’s a borderline top-5 C in the NHL. It’s insane you got him for this price.

I just looked at the Rangers subreddit thread and most of the top comments are saying they don’t like it

So yeah lol

My hatred for Drury grows....
Chytil is just as good as Miller 5v5
Yes he's a concussion away from retiring but miller has mental issues which are serious too and he's 33!
We needed to sell!
Kreider, mika, Lindy and Panarin are the issues
Guarantee miller will fall right in line with the clubhouse atmosphere...
2/3 of our BEST line this year are gone while these lazy vets remain..

This.

The draft this year is about 12 players deep. One of the weaker drafts in recent years.
yeah i thought about this as well. I don’t completely hate moving our 1st in this year’s draft the way it looks like things are going. Don’t think we’re getting anyone special at 14

Having Trocheck be your 3C is a bit of a luxury. You need Mika to be a 2C now and maybe he can do that. He hasn't shown it at all this season, but a reduced role can help.

Miller is the 1C and it's not close. The question is does he play with Panarin. I think he can, but someone will have to shoot the puck.

I'd staple Laf to him for sure. I think you have a high level top line that can replicate the regular season success from last year's top line.
