Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Since the Rangers are going to win the Cup this year now that they have Miller, the 1st will basically be a 2nd! Drury is a master!

For me, there’s a couple things.

1. I hate the philosophy behind this move. This team should not be moving packages to add. We ain’t winning shit.

2. At the very least, this makes the season a lot more interesting moving forward.

3. The value’s not that bad, at least. We all love Fil but he’s glass bones and paper skin. Mancini is a good prospect but dime a dozen especially with our right side as it is. The protections on the pick are really what makes a difference here.
you just explained why this trade is a slam dunk.

Exactly my sentimonies.

1st rounder is top 13 protected. I'm good with this trade.

That's a good cutoff for the Rangers. That's about where the real talent ends and the diamonds in the rough part begins. But I doubt the Rangers will sink that far anyway, struggles aside they are too deep a team.

Management thinks the right side is set with Fox, Borgen, Schneider. Mancini became expendable

How cool is it going to look when JT comes out on the ice with the FNOB: J.T MILLER!

Now we only need to win 70% of our games the rest of the way to have the honor of playing Washington/Carolina in the first round!

Based on what exactly? Old core gets another year older, now they have no cap flexibility and moved on from a 1st and a young prospect. There’s a good likelihood they won’t be any better.

How do they have no cap flexibility when they only added 3.5M in cap space and the cap is expected to go up 7M next year and 16M over the next two? The impact on the cap is very minimal here. I think people treat this like Chytil is on an ELC type contract and Miller makes 10M. Their cap hits aren't that far apart.
