Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Miller is a long term piece for the Rangers despite his age. 5 year contract. Cap skyrocketing. He and Trocheck will be the veteran leaders for the young and up and coming core. They will outlast Kreider, Panarin and hopefully mika. Now time for Drury to find a partner for Fox and a young center.
Two young centers really. They have wings in hand with Lafreniere Perrault Othmann etc. Trading Kakko was a mistake.

I dont mean to be rude, but does anyone expect Chytil to have a long NHL Career? He's an injury from retiring. I hope he succeeds and stays healthy, but it's not a huge deal to lose him. Mancini? Meh. Had to pay something and it wasn't Gabe or Othmann.

I'd have to see what the 1st round protections are.

But really, the trade means nothing, if we don't upgrade the defense.

I don’t hate this trade. What I’m trying to figure out is what would our lines look like now at forward?

And is Miller going to play Center or wing? I think he kind of needs to play center because if he plays wing we don’t exactly have any good center for 3rd line…

So any guesses on lines?

Chytil was my favorite player but he needed to go. You can’t build a team relying on a guy who if you’re lucky you’ll get 60 games from.

Miller is good and has the kind of on ice mentality Drury very clearly wants. North/South, physical, shoot first. Hopefully this spells the end of Mika either this season or in the off season.

We would have loads of cap room to bring in a real 1D to pair with Fox if we can move Mika and then a high end 3C to fill the void there.

Don’t see anything wrong with this move and very clearly fits the vision. Like it or not the team is not rebuilding with Fox and Igor entering their primes. That was never an option.

That is true but not really the point. Sometimes point shots are open while closer shots are not. I don't think having a weaker shot is better than a harder shot whether in close or further out if all other things are equal. Nobody is asking Makar to shoot slower imo.
Weaker shot with accuracy is better. There's a reason PP percentage have been rising as the point blast has gone away

this team rebuilt for half a decade and the only young piece that will be standing is Lafreniere and a bunch of 30+ year olds lmao
Should be framed this one. Not saying I hate the trade, f*** it at this point I guess, but what a turn of events. Imagine telling people in the middle of November when Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko was kicking ass that 2 of them would be traded in a few months?

We're a better team than we were 25 mins ago, but as has already been said, it really depends on what else is to come.
Will be interesting to see how Laf and Miller get along. I said it earlier in the week, but I'd love Lavi to give Laf-Miller-Gabe a shot next season

For me, there’s a couple things.

1. I hate the philosophy behind this move. This team should not be moving packages to add. We ain’t winning shit.

2. At the very least, this makes the season a lot more interesting moving forward.

3. The value’s not that bad, at least. We all love Fil but he’s glass bones and paper skin. Mancini is a good prospect but dime a dozen especially with our right side as it is. The protections on the pick are really what makes a difference here.
