Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I was watching the Columbus-Vegas game last night. Vegas feed. The broadcast mentioned Vegas is starting a 4 game road trip on Sunday against the Rangers. Vegas is playing the 3 NY area teams and Boston. Their next home game is in three weeks. The Rangers are in Boston tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30pm start. The Vegas game is a 6pm start. Vegas will be in NY when the Rangers are playing the Bruins. Samsonov played last night. It will most likely be Adin Hill on Sunday. Igor starts tomorrow and Quick on Sunday. The Rangers are playing Boston 2x before the break. The Bruins have been up and down. Boston isn't in a playoff spot right now.

f***ing L.M.A.O. at giving goddamn Jimmy Vesey column space to complain about his icetime and role.

f***in' fourth liner who got pushed out of the lineup for poor play and better players (well, in Rempe's case, developing a guy they see as a unique asset) and he's selling the Post a sob story that he's the 13th F now.

Why does every veteran on this team act like they're owed all this shit. At least Jones had a point that he's trying to improve his game and carve out a role in the NHL and it sucks to be in a situation where just can't showcase yourself or advance your career. Vesey's a guy you pick up off waivers and consider whether or not to throw him back on the trash heap. Who gives a shit if he decided to come back to the Rangers and sign a couple years ago. The Rangers don't owe him shit for that decision. You don't get icetime because you signed with the team a few years back.

e: if you're disgruntled keep it in house and ask for a trade, but nooooo he's all "but I love it here it's so great but I'm so mad I'm not getting my fourth line minutes that I'm owed!"

haha I'm not actually that upset I just keep getting my mind blown by this team this year and how they essentially tanked their year by pouting and continue to be big mad that they don't get to run the show

If you go over to the Boston HF board, they sound just like us.:DD

Some teams will not be upper limit cap teams at $100M plus, They will have an internal cap. EF has mentioned that a few times. The Avs might be one of those teams. He mentioned the Avs had a number for Rantanen. $11.75M cap hit which would have made him the highest paid winger surpassing Panarin's $11,652,857. Panarin signed that deal in 2019. The Rangers overpaid him or the Covid cap depressed the market. Panarin still has the highest cap number of any winger in the NHL.

You sound disgruntled. Perhaps you should choose another team to root for.:sarcasm:

I heard Brian Boyle discussing the Bruins on the NY Post pod. Boyle lives in Massachusetts. Things are not good. Boston beat Colorado and then lost to Buffalo 7-2. Winnipeg beat them 6-2 last night. Boston was 2-0 and then tied up the game. They collapsed in the 3rd.

Country club atmosphere where the vets run the locker room. The exact type of atmosphere which breeds the entitled attitude our vets have shown. Good luck to any kids here that don't produce immediately. Can't make any lineup changes cause it will offend the vet core. Vesey, you should get some games if Lavi actually had to balls to scratch Bread, Kreider, or Mika. But it'll probably be Kaliyev.

its insane now. every asshole who suits up and gets scratched thinks they can just throw a hissy fit now. When some bum like Vesey comes out and does this shit, you know theres a serious culture problem. This guy should be kissing drury’s feet for even keeping him in the league

These cap increases are why I don't think it will be too difficult to move Mika if they want to. Teams will also want help hitting the floor. It's 70.6M next season. Current contracts have half the league under the floor.

It might also mean they look to keep him and see if he can turn it around/reinvent himself as a middle 6 guy.

8.5M would still be a lot for a 3rd liner, but basing it off of the current cap, it'd be like this for the next three seasons in 24-25 cap:

25-26: 7.87M
26-27: 7.2M
27-28: 6.6M

like some black ace guy should not be able to feel compelled to go talk to the media about his lack of ice time. he should understand what his role is. that’s on the coach for not being clear enough that ol’ Jimmy is a reinforcement at best at this point in his career, and saying he was ever anything more than that would be quite generous.

you all remember I called this early on when it was not popular
Rempe
>>>>>
Vesey

Hey, nothing vs the guy but he had his time and now that's up
He does not deserve mins over
Rempe
Edstrom
Carrick
or Brodz

only one is Mikka and I'd rather have Berard

thanx JV, and buh bye

Unfortunately, dropping coupla pounds of hair and reduced wind resistance/greater aerodynamic efficiency is not enuf to make him faster.
Also even if it did, he would still be too stupid, and too much of a contact avoiding wimp to play good defense

general agree and thanks for the shout out concur on benching, but unlike Mika, no half assing it. He had his chance, make him sit until he waives, no lineup return

Maybe it's just me. But the coach doesn't want me to play. I'm still making my money. I don't need his approval. I don't need Drury's approval either. Get back to me if and when you change your mind. I might not even be that pissed about it. Not that I think that Mika's that way. He'd be more likely I think to pout and suffer. You think though everything is just easy. His feelings hurt---he waives his conditions.....why the f*** did he ask for them in the first place if he's going to be that easy? yes lots of people will knuckle under fast but having been in a couple different unions my way of looking at this---it's not just me that signed this f***ing thing....you signed it too. You own the team? So what. There are conditions that apply to both of us and if you're expecting me to live up to my end you'd better live up to yours.

That said if I'm a GM for another team looking at this player and knowing he has 5 more years at $8 mil per......there is just no f***ing way. No way at all....unless you're going to do something like give me your next 5 first round picks or something equivalent to that. Because I'm seeing a guy who's going to be a boat anchor too heavy for the boat.

I hope Igor doesn't mope after seeing these cap projections realizing if he waited a bit longer he could have got even more money.

I realize you're being super facetious. But Igor caring zero shits about winning would mean he would probably be excited to abuse his contract even more.

Making fun of Vesey because he's unhappy aside...

Has there been any other team in recent history where players have come forward in the media to complain about how they are being handled in such a short period of time? Kakko. Vesey. Jones. Trouba kind of after his trade.

Despite who it might be, it sounds like the cancer isn't in the locker room, but the org is.

I think it's because it's more welcome in this day and age. In the past. gritting your teeth and bearing was the way, and any qualms were used as a blip in an autobiography.
