Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Nobody is happy here. Complain. Mope. The players went on strike to get the GM fired. If I were Drury, I would’ve have the Training Day King Kong speech to the entire team.

I'm not even necessarily talking about JT. that will happen when it happens or wont. The real issue is the core guys. The Kreider situation needs to be dealt with. he's the guy the whole team refers apparently, but he doesn't have the clout in the room to stem the tide of these edge of the roster guys complaining? What's going on there? I love Chris and will cheer him when he returns, but this is a Gartner/Gaborik situation imo. He's no longer a fit and the team can move forward until it's dealt with. Rangers can't even start the Mika/Panarin waiving talks until Kreider is gone IMO.
I'd guess whatever Drury is looking for just hasn't materialized yet, or like in the case of the alleged deal involving Chytil/Lindgren/1st or whatever it was, there's some hang-up with a conditional pick.

The room can't and won't change until the current core is changed though, that's for sure. I don't know if Drury is reluctant to trade guys like Kreider/Lindgren due to the reactions it would elicit? But then that could also tell him who he should be looking to move, if players are getting disgruntled to the point of self-sabotage. Makes me wonder how a team like Tampa played/looked during the first half of the season post-Stamkos with that Chiclets podcast with Maroon saying Tampa was pissed that they didn't bring Stamkos back.

i’d rather get the third pick and take hagens than get #1 and feel compelled to take a D first overall. First overall D picks almost never live up to the hype. Dahlin is probably the closest and people still think of him as underwhelming. Schaefer screams “got hot at the right time in a weak draft year”
Unfortunately we're not drafting anywhere near the top 5.

But yeah, its looking like a weak year anyway. Maybe we can blow it up this summer and tank hard for McKenna next year! lol in my dreams anyway

The cap jump gives this team a massive advantage if they can just keep it in their pants for 14 months.

Say what you want about Dolan but he’s more than willing to spend. Nothing stupid for quick instant gratification fixes and you can basically reset the deck, add assets and have a shit load of money to spend on some players who are actually really good.

we’re set up perfectly to tank next season. if i were drury im trading everything that isnt nailed down and setting up the roster to be completely bare next year. even with igor we could make this roster bad enough to finish bottom 5

It’s really strange that this board consistently complains about roster management and lineup selection, but then takes the organization’s side against disgruntled players. Vesey and Jones are NHL athletes who have played decently well and have every right to be unhappy with their lack of playing time. If you’re upset about us constantly getting bad press then blame Larry Brooks for constanty feeding fuel to the flame.

"Real Maven" my ass
your lack of substantiation self-disqualifies you to be a critic
as w/lack of substance is lack of objectivity

On that basis, you have little to no concept of what is 'appropriate'

Just in time to give Panarin a raise :naughty:

Yeah I mean at a certain point in the season, when it becomes clear that we are not winning a Cup with these guys playing the roles they are, you need to just suck it up in terms of how it fractures the locker room. The young players can rise from the ashes when the 3 stooges are gone.

Only will have taken a century but finally the cap will be over 100 million

until some new disaster strikes the league and stops it from going up

Another unhappy camper

Players are worth more than cash right now. Which does ironically mean that if NYR decide to do a new rebuild in 2-3 yeards time we could make an absolute killing selling off veteran players on long term deals.\

Also- Vesey hs been playing replacement level 4th line hockey since we gave him his extention. He's got no leg to stand on in terms of thinking he has earned anything more.

I hear you but what more needs to be seen? Drury has already identified the core players as the problem. There's less than 10 games to the trade deadline. I would've liked to hear about Drury maybe asking Kreider for his no trade list. Everyone is sulking in the locker room. We had a nice run but the problems are still there. As @The Crypto Guy said, other team's are still wheeling and dealing. I know people want to tank but that's not happening for the chance of drafting James Hagens who isn't even the consensus #1.
We have 5 games before the break and 7 games after. Drury made some moves already. Maybe he decided to wait until the break, to see where the team is at in the standings before making any final decisions. Maybe other teams aren't ready to pull the trigger on what Drury is offering, or maybe he is getting offers, but they are too low.

There's no rush to get anything done, and there are some players that, if they are moved, they likely won't be moved until the offseason anyway.
