Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Teams are still making trades, nobody cares about the 4 Nations Tournament, it's 3-4 games with the players putting in as much effort as a preseason game, it's a joke tournament, glorified all-star week.. If Drury wanted to make a trade he would.
I wonder if Drury wants to tear it down but is not able to bc we are still close to a playoff spot. Like Dolan wont let him.

If we get swept by boston and lose to CLBs before the tourney he might have more leeway bc we will be cooked.

What are we waiting for then? We will see how much in means to the players when Kreider makes a decision on if he's going to go or not.
The right deal, I would assume. Or more precisely, what Drury believes to be the right deal.

Besides that, I don't think we (the organization) have enough clarity on what moves we want to make. It's still 5 weeks until the trade deadline. We have time to see which way the team goes before making those decisions.

Cat and Mouse and who blinks first and Canucks have NO leverage . Rangers offer peanuts and empty shells . Maybe the Rangers want Canucks to retain ? If Rangers are the only team he waives for.....can't blame Drury for screwing JR over .

I hear you but what more needs to be seen? Drury has already identified the core players as the problem. There's less than 10 games to the trade deadline. I would've liked to hear about Drury maybe asking Kreider for his no trade list. Everyone is sulking in the locker room. We had a nice run but the problems are still there. As @The Crypto Guy said, other team's are still wheeling and dealing. I know people want to tank but that's not happening for the chance of drafting James Hagens who isn't even the consensus #1.

Friedman just said on 32 thoughts that he had heard some whispers about JT Miller and Colorado, and that Miller could waive to go there.

Colorado would probably ship back Mittelstadt (that's my speculation, not Friedman's). So if that is a possibility, I would think the Canucks actually do have leverage on New York because Mittelstadt is probably more enticing than Chytil.

I'm not even necessarily talking about JT. that will happen when it happens or wont. The real issue is the core guys. The Kreider situation needs to be dealt with. he's the guy the whole team refers apparently, but he doesn't have the clout in the room to stem the tide of these edge of the roster guys complaining? What's going on there? I love Chris and will cheer him when he returns, but this is a Gartner/Gaborik situation imo. He's no longer a fit and the team can move forward until it's dealt with. Rangers can't even start the Mika/Panarin waiving talks until Kreider is gone IMO.

And sabotage their own quest to win the ultimate prize to prove some point.
Which really. Underscored the mentality shift that needs to happen within the higherarchy of that room.

Limited career.
Limited window.
Any year can get F'd with injuries.

No one with pull in that room could put their emotions aside after a few days and remember the bigger picture?

Or, maybe none of them really care.

Maybe being a NYR is all about the peripherals, punch in, punch out, go home. The SC is just a bonus if we luck into it.

I cant abide that mentality if even a shred of truth exists within my hyperbole.

Hagens isn’t the consensus #1 because he’s #2.

Schaefer is the consensus #1. He is the only truly elite prospect in this class.

I do like Schaefer more. But a lot of people in Rangerland are drooling over Hagens.

Yeah because of the stupid center obsession and him already being a linemate of our top prospect.

McKenzie just released his mid season ranking and every scout had Schaefer #1.

Hagens isn’t bad by any means, but he’s not a Celebrini level guy.

i’d rather get the third pick and take hagens than get #1 and feel compelled to take a D first overall. First overall D picks almost never live up to the hype. Dahlin is probably the closest and people still think of him as underwhelming. Schaefer screams “got hot at the right time in a weak draft year”

Feel like COL would have to do some serious juggling and cap gymnastics

Not really.

They just need to make sure Middlestadt is part of the deal. That would be enough for them to fit him in with out any trouble both now and long term unless Landeskog becomes a thing again at some point.

Rangers should really be focused on unloading their problems. I understand that you can trade players away and trade for guys at the same time but having a nice open chunk of space and taking some time to evaluate your options seems like a smart path forward.

Work with an empty canvas instead of trying to paint over mistakes.
