Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

We're the slowest f***ing team in the league. Practice pace in a real game.
A few years back our guys realized they could look really clever & effective by suddenly slowing down & letting the unwitting defenders speed by, thus creating a little window for big plays.

This trick worked for a while, but now it doesn't anymore. It's the kind of thing that is effective if you pull it out once in a while, as a change of pace. It can't be the main thing. Really you have to play fast.

Honestly I don't remember that Tampa narrative at all. However, talking strictly about the Rangers, the speed we play at is way below current NHL standards. If the rest of the league is playing at 100mph, we're in the right lane obeying a 55mph speed limit. That's why so many posters here want to hold on to Fil for dear life...he's literally the only guy we have who skates with purpose. Miller used to do it, but then Lavi & Housley showed up.
Yeah. Also Berard. Would like to see him back. And Edstrom/Carrick are pretty good.

I was rooting for Kakko but enough with this kid. He was put in the top 6 to start every season and flopped. He just sounds like another entitled millennium brat at this point.
Well so far he’s backing it up with results. But I agree, enough already. He’s a Kraken, not a NYR. We don’t need updates anymore.

Kaliyev has been good. This organization hates guys that shoot and sustain pressure.
I thought he looked pretty okay for the most part esp considering he was out so long. I’m not too concerned if he gets sat every 10 games or so to give Brodz some time. Just hope it’s nothing more than that.

I remember the Backstreet Boys. I'm cooked.
I remember The Beatles. I’m composted.

Again, we can't draft, we can't develop, Igor is an overpaid hack at this point and every vet here has checked out and sucks anyway, but we are 1.5 games (with an
almost historically bad losing slump) outside of the playoffs. So again, wtf is wrong with the rest of the league if we can do that?
I can answer that question in two words: Commissioner Buttface. He made it his mission in life to bring parity to ALL the teams in the NHL and has pretty much succeeded.

The best thing about this Rangers season is that in 2 weeks pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

Understandable when the team plays Rempe over you
you all remember I called this early on when it was not popular
Rempe
>>>>>
Vesey

I feel bad for Jimmy. Coach has f'd him pretty good.
Hey, nothing vs the guy but he had his time and now that's up
He does not deserve mins over
Rempe
Edstrom
Carrick
or Brodz

only one is Mikka and I'd rather have Berard

thanx JV, and buh bye

Unfortunately, dropping coupla pounds of hair and reduced wind resistance/greater aerodynamic efficiency is not enuf to make him faster.
Also even if it did, he would still be too stupid, and too much of a contact avoiding wimp to play good defense

Kaliyev has pretty much averaged 25 points a year. He's not a terrible player at all but he's a reach as far as being a top 6. Also having missed pretty much the first half of the season he's been getting back into game shape.

Rempe has been playing well on the 4th line and his minutes have been going up. His last 4 games---he's had 9:29, 9:12, 8:49 and 9:49. No penalties and a goal and an assist. The 4th line has not really been a problem this year--even when it included Vesey and Brodzinski.

As lines go the biggest problem has been Mika's line. The next problem has been Chytil's line because of Filip's health. That said everyone on Trocheck's line has underachieved. Mika's and Trocheck's lines are supposed to be the lines that carry the team. Carrick's line providing them with energy and good play away from the puck. Our bottom forwards have not been the problem.

I'd have no problem putting Brodzinski or Vesey back in the lineup. I wouldn't be looking to take Rempe out though. I'm with Bern in benching Mika. I just don't see it as a strategy that will get him to ask out nor do I necessarily see it as something permanent. I'd replace him with Jonny say for the next 3/4 games.....then put Mika back in and see if he'll play better. I don't think any NHL team is looking to take on his cap hit out to 2030. We could do the same with Vesey and Kreider. If Chris's back is so bad let him rest it......and if his back is so bad he should drop out of the 4 nations tournament. It's a bullshit marketing/promotional thing anyway. He's paid to give his all for the Rangers not the American team. The same with Zibanejad and Sweden. Maybe he should give himself a break. His game has been lackluster all year long. Frankly he's stunk.
general agree and thanks for the shout out concur on benching, but unlike Mika, no half assing it. He had his chance, make him sit until he waives, no lineup return

Interesting trade between CGY and PHI
Philadelphia is freeing up money. Farabee has three more years left on his contract. $5M cap. Frost is arb eligible this summer. Both players are not Torts guys. Farabee wanted a change of scenery two years ago.

Calgary is looking for players. All of these players have no trade clauses to the Canadian teams. It's not an attractive team for a free agent. Three more years of Farabee. They can sign Frost in the summer.

The Flyers take a flyer on Kuzmenko and his money is off the books. The Flyers get a 2nd round pick in June. The Flyers will have 3 first round picks and 4 second round picks in June. Briere has the ammunition to make a few impactful trades.

I’d push back slightly on the notion of Kakko flopping every time he was put in the top 6. When he played there it was exclusively with Kreider and Zib (save for like a 2 game stint with Panarin and Strome) and they always looked pretty dynamite, just unable to score (we know that Kreider and Zib scoring at ES is a pairing problem, not a problem for their 3rd line mate).

It was interesting that the Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko line were getting top 6 minutes at the beginning of this year, were driving play, AND were scoring. In fact, shifting them back to 3rd line minutes and forcing Lindgren back to the top D pair directly coincides with the team beginning their collapse.
