Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I feel bad for Jimmy. Coach has f'd him pretty good.
In what way?
He's a bottom 6 guy and everyone else in the bottom six has either outproduced him and/or brings a point of difference.
Vesey is a useful depth player, but the whole idea is that you have guys on your roster who end pushing guys like him out of the lineup

edit to add - i do feel bad for Vesey because he seems like a good guy and it would suck to be in his position, but i don't think it has anything to do with management/coaching

Hard to blame Brooks here when it’s an exclusive interview, so Vesey didn’t need to do it. Step one in getting the hell out of here for Vesey, can’t blame him for not wanting to sit in the pressbox for another 3 months when he’s about to be a UFA.

Maybe so but I do not see any reason not to want a booming shot. I doubt any AVs coaches are saying we would like Makar to shoot at an Adam Fox or Ryan Lindgren speed. JT Miller has a pretty hard shot. Maybe he will use it in NY :)
Shooting from closer, on net, preferably with the goalie moving is a higher percentage shot than someone cranking boomers from the point.

Vesey should be pissed he's not playing and feeling like he's stagnated in his career and if it stays this way he could be out of the league. He was almost there a few years ago. I get his frustration.

However, the players playing over him - Edstrom, Rempe and Kaliyev would be the three I guess - are all young players the organization is trying to see what they have in them. They should be playing over Jimmy from this perspective.

Sucks for Jimbo, but it is what it is.

I'm still annoyed about that dirty headbutt hit Lomberg threw on him in the playoffs that knocked him out. I feel like if he was healthy and playing things could've been different. Not because he's some huge difference maker but if he was healthy he would've done more with his minutes on the 4th line and PK than Rempe did with his time, plus Wheeler does't get in the lineup and the disaster of Game 4 never happens (not that I fault Wheeler he was in a tough spot even playing and then Mika handcuffs him at the blue line in OT with the dumbest pass in the history of hockey. Having a solid reliable guy like Vesey in the playoffs is valuable in your bottom 6, would've liked to see how that series plays out with him in the lineup.

That is true but not really the point. Sometimes point shots are open while closer shots are not. I don't think having a weaker shot is better than a harder shot whether in close or further out if all other things are equal. Nobody is asking Makar to shoot slower imo.

Hopefully they just rip the bandaid and get a 6th for Vesey tomorrow.

Probably was not happy Brodz got the call over him. Probably wouldn't be happy myself.

It's an easy move. Someone can get a 4th liner that is okay on the PK as depth for a playoff team. Send him off to Tampa.

Finally

We're trading players because they whine to the refs? Crosby would have been traded his rookie season. Your posts are head scratchers at best.
I was being sarcastic. Cause fans want to trade players that whine. Wow some fans can't even tell that it's sarcastic. I thought Rangers fans were smart

Kaliyev has pretty much averaged 25 points a year. He's not a terrible player at all but he's a reach as far as being a top 6. Also having missed pretty much the first half of the season he's been getting back into game shape.

Rempe has been playing well on the 4th line and his minutes have been going up. His last 4 games---he's had 9:29, 9:12, 8:49 and 9:49. No penalties and a goal and an assist. The 4th line has not really been a problem this year--even when it included Vesey and Brodzinski.

As lines go the biggest problem has been Mika's line. The next problem has been Chytil's line because of Filip's health. That said everyone on Trocheck's line has underachieved. Mika's and Trocheck's lines are supposed to be the lines that carry the team. Carrick's line providing them with energy and good play away from the puck. Our bottom forwards have not been the problem.

I'd have no problem putting Brodzinski or Vesey back in the lineup. I wouldn't be looking to take Rempe out though. I'm with Bern in benching Mika. I just don't see it as a strategy that will get him to ask out nor do I necessarily see it as something permanent. I'd replace him with Jonny say for the next 3/4 games.....then put Mika back in and see if he'll play better. I don't think any NHL team is looking to take on his cap hit out to 2030. We could do the same with Vesey and Kreider. If Chris's back is so bad let him rest it......and if his back is so bad he should drop out of the 4 nations tournament. It's a bullshit marketing/promotional thing anyway. He's paid to give his all for the Rangers not the American team. The same with Zibanejad and Sweden. Maybe he should give himself a break. His game has been lackluster all year long. Frankly he's stunk.

the day Mika or Panarin gets benched is the day the Rangers turn into a Panthers style of team. Gritty physical nasty and skilled
