Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I wouldn't say there's no room for sentimentality in pro sports. A good gm though doesn't let it stop him from making hard decisions when he has to. And IMO Drury is in the situation now where he will have to make a hard decision or two very soon and it could make or break his job and also the team's immediate future onward maybe going out several years.

We've had disappointing seasons from a number of players and I'd start with Mika, Kreider and K'Andre. Lafreniere also has regressed this year. Jones is not good enough. Lindgren, Smith, Vesey and Quick are upcoming unrestricted. Chytil's got some serious health questions....and he still has a habit of getting blindsided. He ran into Schneider a few games ago. That's about 4/5 times this year something like that has happened. More often these don't end up with injury but he gets hurt too much.

Mika's been a shitshow all year. At this point it's just a sharp decline. He might not even hit 45 points. His head seems in the clouds. Kreider's offense has been missing pretty much since early November and no it's not just Mika. He's not producing with Filip either. Bad back? He's playing.....getting lots of power play time. If his back is that bad.....he shouldn't be playing at all and his presence on the ice isn't helping us at all. A lot of the same people were bitching about #8 last year who was playing with a bum ankle. This year's Kreider is last year's Trouba.

Playing proper hockey. I tuned into Seattle v Washington the other night and the pace was mindblowingly fast compared to your typical Rongo game. Neither team is particularly fast when you look at the players, and there wasn’t a whole lot of scoring chances either way, but the pace of play, quick puck movement , and energy is just in a different universe. And really it’s all teams. Turn on a random non-Rangers game and you’ll see .

It's funny when the Rangers were playing the Lightning in the playoffs and all of the talk was about how the Lightning needs to slow it down when they play us and they did and won and no one complained about speed. Only the Rangers get these complaints.

It's sad that everyone but management and the coaches can plainly see where the problems lie on this team, they refuse to do anything about it, Teflon Chris and Mika never have to answer to mistakes, meanwhile Kaliyev has been here for a minute and we're replacing him with Brodz thinking that will solve all the bullshit going on here. There's 0 accountability here for the higher paid players. Add to that, Kaliyev needed a boost of confidence, not a benching to try and find his form.

You're just being a contrarian at this point if you don't think our team speed & the pace we play at isn't a huge problem.

2022 was mostly Igor. Won’t get an argument from me there. Straight up stole 2 series and almost stole a 3rd.

Last year wasn’t. He was very good but the team was pretty good too.

This is part of the reason the Igor love drives me crazy. I may be on the other end of the spectrum but the Igor love is thinly veiled Rangers hate. People only love Igor because it rationalizes their strong regular and postseason finishes without having to say that the team is good. This is a common media narrative too. And boy did the guy cash in on this misplaced Igor love.

It's basically the equivalent of saying a girl/guy has a great personality. A backhanded compliment at best.

Am I? All I'm saying is there are different ways to skin a cat. No one said it was a major problem with the Lightning. But it's the Rangers so it's a major problem.
Honestly I don't remember that Tampa narrative at all. However, talking strictly about the Rangers, the speed we play at is way below current NHL standards. If the rest of the league is playing at 100mph, we're in the right lane obeying a 55mph speed limit. That's why so many posters here want to hold on to Fil for dear life...he's literally the only guy we have who skates with purpose. Miller used to do it, but then Lavi & Housley showed up.

Especially when you think about the shit return they got for him.
I'll keep being 'that' guy'; the Leetch trade was ok value wise. He was 35 turning 36 with a lot of miles on the body and only 1 season away from UFA with the threat of a lockout looming.
His value to Ranger fans was less than that of him as a player around the league. A 1st, 2nd a two prspects was about right, it's just that the front office had no idea what to look for in those prospects and couldn't draft for shit.
We should have re-signed Sykora IMO and that 1st pick allowed us to move up to #19 (Korpi) with Zajac going the pick after ours.

A return of Sykora, Zajac and Sauer for Leetch would have been good for where he was in his career

I guess my point was more about the return basically amounted to nothing when all was said & done. Ironically, immediately after the lockout Leetch was exactly the type of player the Rangers were missing to run the power play, so it was annoying that the trade never paid any dividends.

I do agree he was just about out of gas. He looked good for the Leafs for those 6 weeks, but that was the last time he really played at a high level. He had so many major injuries & played so many minutes for 18 years, he completely emptied the tank.

That's a bunch of bullshit. That f***ing reptile Larry asks them exactly the questions he wants to shitpost about it and runs with it from there. "Gee, Jimmy, how do you feel about not being in the lineup?"

What the f*** is he supposed to say?

He says right there in the quote he loves being a Ranger. I'm perfectly content to hear that guys aren't happy being scratched. They're supposed to be competitors.

Larry's been on one recently betwee shit like this and the Lindgren lobbying.
Exactly. Us fans don't need more sourpuss and negativity. Not sure what his angle is but it's not creative and he's not writing anything insightful or new ideas. Just more negative BS when we're already filled to the brim.

This is why Torts and Dan Boyle told him in no uncertain terms to f*** off.

Jimmy is a nice guy and I respect him for it.

I'm not. f*** you, Larry.
