Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

100%

He’s the only guy on the team who can get away with doing whatever the hell they want to do.

I don’t remember Kreider or Zibanejad having an entire trade deadline centered around adding their friends or them tacking on an extra minute to their shifts bc they felt like it. They’ve gotten a long leash but both guys have been demoted, scratched or both. Panarin had faced no consequences and he’s had plenty of moments where he’s deserved them.

They all need to go but the room won’t really change until Panarin goes. We don’t have the room or the coaching staff that will hold him accountable. JT Miller would probably finish the job
That Wilson couldn’t if he were traded here.

I generally think JT Miller would be a terrible pickup. The team has bigger headaches that first need correcting. Except most of the headaches I'd like shipped have NMCs.

Then I think what a douche JT sounds like to teammates and consider he might be ideal to make the clowns with NMCs want to leave.

This roster feels like you can only fix it in a video game.

Nope. I was typing my prior post as yours came up.

There are already plenty of declining players here. No need to turn the team into a nursing home.
jtm -
Again, following the general rule = no, but being open minded, = possible exception to the rule = yes IF IF IF it is in our currency
no Chytil
no pick
Smith, Lindgren, Kaliyev, Sykora
for
jtm + cap dump Desharnais

otherwise NO

Is he? I think this guy does want to win. He shows up. He has his bad games here and there but overall he produces for this team.

Zibanejad is a major major issue. Kreider, I don’t know what to think anymore. Disappointed in his mental fortitude to rise above what has gone on this year and lead this team.

On a side note, if a JTM trade doesn’t happen today or tomorrow I think that is a sign that ship has sailed imo.
c'mon man
don't be disingenuous
he gets a medal for playing w/a bad back
mental tuffness here has got nothing to do with it

break zib w/constant benching
deal asap

Kreider ltir
bring up da kids

He produces and I've always said that I don't think he's a cancer. In the right environment, he would buy in. He was a Torts guy.

We evidently don't have the environment. We made him a golden goose and that became the mandate.

The problem is that our offense mimics him. I think Panairn himself needs to change some of his habits but if you said "well, it's Panarin, he scores a lot" I'd be fine with that. The issues start when the whole offense starts doing his "stop and look across the ice" thing. Like 1% of players in the NHL have the skills to play like him and everyone plays like him.

Somebody needs to slap Lafreniere and tell him "move your legs or I'm cutting them off, stupid." You can't do that when Panarin does the same thing and gets rewarded for it.

Agree, and that's why I think it's time to move on.

I haven't been surprised by Kakko's renaissance in Seattle. Many of Kakko's points with Seattle have come all 5 guys on the ice being in position defensively, someone forcing a turnover, then countering with numbers and speed into the O-zone. Defense leads to offense.

The entire Rangers group of forwards, maybe except for the 4th line, chooses to play Panarin hockey. Rather than forcing turnovers and going north quickly, then decisively driving to the net, they choose to slow the game down in attempt to set up the perfect play. They are guilty of making too many high-risk plays in the dangers areas (coming out of our D-zone, neutral zone, at the top of the O-zone) that lead to turnovers in bad spots. Teammates can't recover in time. Nobody knows who to cover. Selfish and lazy offense leads to poor defense. Panarin is king of the FancyBoyzzz and this mindset festers throughout the lineup. We don't even shoot the damn puck on breakaways anymore.

Lafreniere will break out elsewhere for these same reasons if we ever trade him, as I think we're all well aware by now.

I've watched a few of Kakko's points on Seattle and thought "that would never happen here."

Maybe Zibanejad can DJ the game so he can start moving his feet to the beat.

there's ways to encourage guys to move on when they have no movement clauses. trade for futures and solve problems from within before we become completely decrepit.
jmo ymmv

brodzinsky in for kaliyev is dumbass because your exchanging a defense first guy for a scorer on a team thats having trouble scoring. if laviolette would play kaliyev on the power play he would produce but for some reason he stays with what isnt working. also kaliyev can sit in the netfront to give krieder 's sore back a break. but i guess we gotta continue with the sunk salary costs of the dynamic duo. i think its obvious to even a casual observer that mika has lost interest since last yrs eastern conference final and krieder is is beat up beyond recognition. time for change.

Of course he was a Torts guy, he had his massive payday ahead of him while playing under Torts. Theres no way he's going to jeopardize that so I'm not surprised that he was a good solider there and that goes beyond the fact that Torts would have probably killed him if he played the way he has here.

Thats gone away since he's come here though and it's because he's allowed to get away with it. These are his true colors.

I don't even think HE is good enough to play his style of game anymore. Part of what made him so effective last year was that he cut down on all that dumb shit and just decided he was going to shoot everything instead. What happened to that guy? I get that he and both of his line mates were better last year but he's gone back to looking like the guy he was the 2 years prior to last season where he's just happy to pick up a few points here and there and buzzing off.

One thing I will give him credit for - Unlike his biggest stans who dropped every single excuse on the planet for the watery turd that was the NJD series, he knew how bad he was and responded with one of the best regular seasons in franchise history.

He seems like he's completely satisfied now. He can go be satisfied somewhere else.
