I think people are reading that tweet wrong though. I think they’re looking for veteran help with the intention of letting Clarke play in the A.

We'd spend the next five years finding a new Trocheck if we lost him, and more likely would end up overpaying a bottom 6 dude to try to do half of what he does.

There's literally no downside to having him here. You can even demote him to the 3rd line and as long as he scores around 50 he's still a bargain on that contract.

Folks forget what a great deal it was for the team even before the cap increase as it allowed Drury to bring Trocheck (who wound up de facto 1C) without having to move Chytil - that was a big concern at that time.

The team has terrible leadership. Panarin doesnt speak to the media and is allowed to do his own thing on the ice by every coach because of how much he's paid. Not to mention he knows Dolan will always stand by him (Wilson incident, Russia allegations leave of absence, firing both Quinn and Gallant, etc.). Why are we shitting on Lafreniere when he's learned under Panarin? Blueline turnovers and pulling up at the halfwall to avoid contact if you do gain the zone.

Meeka and Cryder are way more complicated but equally disappointing. Both guys are delusional with what they say, going back to Mika saying he did a good job on Barkov in the break-up day media scrum last year (LOL). Kreider last night falling on the sword like a martyr like he hasnt been playing lazy hockey for the entire season. What a hero! It's that type of evidence that shows you the locker room and players are completely removed from the reality of the situation. The fact that this leadership group was shocked that drury would try to get out from Goodrow and Trouba is crazy. It's like they sat through the rebuild so they feel entitled to the fruits of it. Thats why the 3 of them get more ice time when they make mistakes and players like Laf, Chytil and Cuylle are stapled to the bench during important offensive minutes. That's why they havent developed quickly enough to cover for the veterans decline.

The team needs a leader, because they have none. Trouba wasnt one either, he just liked the spotlight. Getting rid of the 3 Stooges is a much more pressing issue than trading for JT Miller, and that should be their priority. They'll be a much better team without them, regardless of who the replacements are.

I thought putting Kaliyev and Kreider with Chytil would've been a good mixture of skills, but it's looking like those two are just slowing Chytil down. He should be centering Panarin, pushing people back and creating some room for Panarin to work.

None of the three are prodigious passers.

Ranger fans love him but get a haul for Adam Fox. Guy is a one trick pony who doesn’t skate well and doesn’t have a great shot. He just spins in circles making pretty plays but more of them than not he makes stupid plays. He doesn’t take over games like Makar, Hughes, or Josi does.

Saad would be a Kreider replacement. Kreider is either still hurt or has given up based on his recent play. He is even slower and less physical than before.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the venn diagram of people who want to get rid of Adam Fox and people who loved the Jacob Trouba trade and signing because they thought they were getting a top pairing RHD in his prime is a perfect circle.

Also someone needs to clue in Brooks to the fact that Lindgren has basically been used as a #4 since the beginning of 2021-22.

Lindgren-Fox have eaten fewer minutes 5v5 than Miller-Trouba/Borgen every-single-year.

His boy is just trash now. He can cry about how he's sacrificed his body and thats led to it happening sooner than it would for other players his age but it happened. He's really, really bad now and the solution to fixing the D isn't to get bigger and "downgrade" him and Fox by.... playing them in the exact same role that they've been playing since Gallant took over.

They need to get Fox a real partner and let them eat the most minutes of any pairing. Thats the solution, not signing a player out of sympathy whose entire skill set right now is "LEADURSHIP."
