you're talking to a fan that exists in your head, a straw fan. we all do it, this is just an example.

it's actually why i make a point to reference specific posters when i comment in rebuttal. i know it comes off combative but it's really out of respect - people have the right to hold their opinions and i respect those that do - as long as they are held accountable for their opinions and rhetoric.

that includes you, who are tough on shesterkin, @Siddi, who stans Zib, @effen, who's a no nonsense guy who eschews excuses made for players and holds them responsible.

i think it's important we have our own views and stand by them. it's what separates this forum from pure groupthink. the hyperbole and inflammatory rhetoric, the slander of players and the doomtelling (guilty), the peacocking when proven right - even if over a short sample - par for the course.

I don't think these fans "exist in my head". Have you seen the posts about Kakko recently? And the same people mourning Kakko are saying that Borgen will be Branden Smith with nothing to back it up other than max misery.

The comfortable thing may be true but he looked like he had great chemistry with his linemates here this year.

Also for everyone flipping out over his production...

He went 11 in 11 and 13 in 16 between 1/16 and 2/17 (or 2/26) in 2023. This was with less ice time 5v5 and almost no PP time.

He has done this before.
yeah, and its impossible to be consistently productive with 13 minutes of ice time and no PP. So its more likely to be sustainable now.

Or like it is with pretty much every player ever, the puck luck normalizes and the production ends up being closer to what it's always been.

a usage bump may be a thing, but it won't be a massive bump.

I have been on the frontlines of the Laf is producing less than he could with no PP time. And then he got PP time and did f*** all with it. Sometimes players don't get PP time for a reason.

I think he took people off. He used to never respond to me on the prospect board and I figured he blocked me. Then he started responding to me again.

Speaking of posters what happened to @Amazing Kreiderman?

I'm right here

It's been a crazy couple months. Between my mom passing away from cancer, starting a new job, and traveling for that new job, it's been hard to keep up with HF.

It really only makes sense if Mika is sent the other way.

Devils Advocate.

It makes sense where either the Country Club boys wake up and tow the line, or it becomes easier to identify the guys that are a problem but fly under the rader by staying quiet.

If Miller really did split the room in VC, then the same could happen here. The difference being, he's wantes here and being brought in for that reason.

If VC doesnt want Mika or Mika is being stubborn and has dug in, then at some point you gotta think he reconsiders his options about playing elsewhere.

It seems Miller would be given the backing to implement a My Way or the Highway tone if given the C, or if Tro is the C, Miller is his bulldog.

It may not be a quick fix, but it sure would be a culture change in the right direction. And it will only rub the wrong way the players who arent serious about work hockey.

Added bonus, you may find FA's want to come here who also belive in that style of trust and expecations amongst each other. I have a feeling our team is disfunctional becasue some guys want to work, and some guys dont and its demotivating the guys who are willing to go the extra mile.

Who on this team is doing anything with PP time this season? The PP is disgrace. Even with Fox and Panarin and Zibanejad and kreider, guys who all feasted on the PP in their careers.

Moving of goalposts. I like Laf and have defended him even after all the shit he's been going through this year but bottom line is even when we scored a few PP goals he wasn't on the scoresheet.

this us just more on the line of thinking that Kakko, Laf, and young player has to come in and "take the bull by horns" . The team is fundamentally broken. And Laf is suffering for it. If you don't think a #1 overall pick who has always played on the PP and had skill just physically can't play on the PP a la Carl Hagelin, then you might as well trade him now, but I think I know whats going to happen when he lands on a new team.

Shesterkin hasn't even been playing well with the exception of last game. But fans hate this team so much it's ALWAYS because of Shesterkin. The Rangers' defense has been leaps and bounds better. Only reason the games have been close is the non-existent offense. Shesterkin has been fine but acting like he's been stealing these games because you want to have maximum hate for this team and give them no credit anywhere is f***ing pathetic.

Goaltending has covered up a bunch of issues for the Rangers when the offense dries up. That's been a long-time thing. Don't see how you can pretend it hasn't been. I'm not saying in every instance.

And there have been plenty of games, especially since signing his contract, where Shesterkin has played some really awful hockey. Certainly didn't say he was stealing games.

I don't have hate for the team. I've been a lifelong Rangers fan. I have no problem giving them credit, and they have been playing better. I've defended them plenty over the years, but I'm still surely allowed to get frustrated when we're looking to add more high-priced veterans at the expense of bringing in younger players. If the team has been capable of this all along, rolling over and dying for 20 games isn't a great look, and I don't think JT Miller fixes things.

But sure, you can take whatever kind of stand this is and call "fans" pathetic all you want.

And for what it's worth, I do think we need to get over Kakko being gone. I agree with that.

Because people need to held accountable for their hypocricy and since I don't have access to coaches I'll call out fan hypocricy.

Not sure why fans need to be held accountable ... fandom is irrational at the core. Fans say crazy s*** all the time, and none of it matters. Fans don't make the decisions.

It strikes me that you are doing this to avoid dealing with the real issue, that our favorite team doesn't deal well with young players with potential. The Kakko story is just another example.

I'm a big fan of Laf, I would hate to see him traded for Miller. I also think he has more offensive ability in his pinky than Kakko does in his whole body. But at the end of the day the PP is not a silver bullet either.

What story? If his time at the Kraken were a story it would be the first page. Speaking of irrationality.

But you're not saying "defense and goaltending are covering up the offense". By crediting Shesterkin with everything you're basically saying the whole team sucks except one guy. Yesterday we held a team was #1 in 5 on 5 scoring and #9 on the PP to 8 shots in the last two periods. We shut down Colorado recently if not for Shesterkin shitting his pants. Did the same with Vegas and NJ. But we're crediting one man because it pains us to credit any more than that.
