I don't. Already reports teams would have made a better offer for Kakko had they known Drury was looking to ship him out so fast. He easily would have brought back a 2nd. Guy is a NHL player who will have a long career, whether this board wants to admit that or not.
No team has mentioned what they would have offered (and if they were really keen surely they've already contacted Seattle with a similar offer and the Kraken are weighing up whether to sell 'high' on him?)

It does raise the question of perceived value again though. Is a late 2nd and let's say a 23 year old prospect going at 0.5ppg in the AHL a better offer than 3/6/the assimiliator, because the pick is higher? I assume some GMs (and fans) say yes while others say no.
If Drury knows he can get a 4th for Lindgren at the deadline, but if he includes that 3rd he can likely turn the trade into a 2nd and 5th, does it make it any better?

This is the chicken and the egg. This right here is why I'm nyr you don't usually see long periods with a splash acquisition. I'm not saying it's to appease people like you, but the attitude you share here (which is justified) is something business ops watches that sometimes leads to player moves or additions. Where's the new marketable "thing?" Nyr has been stale for awhile and to add to it they are boring to watch

Oh yeah, I don’t want it to be marketable or splashy. I’d rather see some kid like Ridley Greig who is halfway between busting and being a good middle six player with an edge stir some shit on our third line than watch more of the same tired, limp PP. I’d rather see Adam Sykora, Berard, Otthman and Edstrom play 10 minutes each than watch another game with the pouting vets. Granted, I understand the argument that we don’t want our kids anywhere near this dumpster fire either, but I’m just so tired of Chris and Mika. Laf since he got paid. Fox at snail speed. Broken Lindgren. I just want ANYTHING worth tuning in for.

For all the shit that Rempe gets, when he plays, the games are far more exciting for the simple fact that he plays a straight line game and wreaks havoc around the ice. Effort isn’t an issue. That should be THE BARE MINIMUM for all players at this level but oddly, it’s not.

What does that equal in NYR terms (have no idea on either guy involved)?

Parssinen has decent numbers for a youngish center of 23 with limited time in the NHL. Looks like Colorado values him as a piece they can develop for the price they paid (basically a 3rd rounder and a contract dump). He’s only played 15 games this year but doesn’t appear to have been a regular so this may have been Nashville getting something for him rather than waiving him and losing him for nothing

I do not like the NMC in general for anyone in the NHL but if that is a non negotiable would you just let Igor leave?

I do not know if I can blame Drury for how Lias, Krav and KK turned out. Firstly I do not think Drury had much to do with Lias at all. Lias has been gone for a while and on 2 other teams I believe.

In terms of Krav and KK I will have to see how they do in other organizations before making my mind up. I actually think Krav might one day have a NHL career but I do not think he was mentally nor physically ready for the NHL and sadly he did not want to play in the AHL.
I'd have traded him. I know they wouldn't have, but you can't let him leave and get nothing in return.

Honestly I think some people (not you) just like to over react a bit. Some people that say it was a crazy low return but also admit KK never would have got a 1st and they wanted a 2nd. Some even mention Lias got a 2nd. The 2nd we got for Lias was number 60. If the season ended today the Seattle pick would probably be around 65. Plus we got Borgen (who can be traded) and a 6th. So is that so dramatically different?
I'm not a fan of saying "Lias got..." because the landscapes are so different but Kakko is 100x the player Lias was.

That being said, if Drury is gonna flip Borg for a 2nd, then the same risks are there... could look awful here, could get injured etc.

I'd have waited, that' all.

Different player but Luas could have had more value as an unknown. He had only played around 70 games. KK had played over 300 games. Sometimes the unknown has more value kind of like an unscratched lottery ticket vs a lottery ticket with 2 of 5 spots already scratched and no jackpot possible.

People bring up Lias because the 2nd rounder was Will Cuylle.

If it was Gropp, Halverson, Lindbom, Henriksson, or Robertson, they would say Lias got nothing.
It's about scouting and the pick.

The Hagelin and Talbot trades stunk because the guys they got were bad. The Nash to NY trade also netted Buchnevich. The Nash to Boston trade ended up in a good 2C and 1/3 the Defense the last 5 years.

The McD and Miller to Tampa trade stunk on the surface (with the exception of keeping the Islanders from winning back to back Cups) however, there's Laba who could turn into anywhere from a Brian Boyle to Vincent Trochek piece.

If there was ever a time to bring Messier in as a coach it's now imo. I would like to see what he can do with a team like this. I know he came off strong pushing for the job in the past but I'll always love the man.
No. Messier will always have a place for "Ninedy Faw" and his jersey rightfully belongs in the rafters, but he's the definition of entitled and privileged. Was too good for the AHL and hasn't coached anything other than the Egon Spengler tournament back when Aaron Voros was hip. His lore would only last so long and he can't threaten to throw anyone off planes.

I understand your thinking but finding another goalie of that standard will not be easy nor cheap. Keep or trade. Its a risk either way imo.
I agree completely with you on this. It wouldn't be easy or cheap, and it'd be risky. If they fix the defence corps, implement a system everyone (including the forwards coming back) buys into, it would make the game easier for whomever that goalie would be.

I would've rather not traded Shesterkin; that's a moot point now as he's not going anywhere, or at least not without his permission.

Not for nothing... a guy like Mika right now is a pretty good example of why the league would be better off with more of an NFL style structure in terms of contracts. We'd get a much better product without having these sorts of deals hampering teams. Sometimes it's on the owners, but sometimes it's the players.

Remember when Brendan Smith got his contract from us? He got his money, had his wedding and f***ed off during the summer. When the season started back up he came in out of shape and unable to handle the big league. Whos fault is that? Sometimes it's not always the shitty owners/management giving out idiotic contracts. Derek Stepan has had interviews since he's retired where he's talked about some of his shit habits. His last season a couple years ago was at 32 years old. He could still be playing if he gave a f***. He said he liked to drink and eat whatever and f*** off. You weren't going to find him in the gym. Makes you think what kind of player he could've topped out as if he had some drive. He was a talented player. But overall its not good for the league, worse product. He was still making +6M a year when his game fell of a cliff. His diet and drinking caught up to him. That sort of shit happens. Remember a few years ago when Dotchin came back to Tampa fat and they terminated his contract. They eventually came to a settlement but he was off the cap. Stuff like that is rare. Usually it'll be something like drugs or some other controversy.

You can't just cut guys in this league. The contracts are guaranteed. Buyouts are largely disadvantageous. And let's be honest, the PA will never ever go for something like the NFL has. They wont willingly give up security that they already have. But it would be better for the game. And you'd still have some security for the players, just more flexibility for organizations. You can structure contracts on guaranteed/unguaranteed money like the NFL. Guys will still get fat contracts, but you have to perform. Some guys will get fully guaranteed deals, some guys won't. Organizations wouldn't be able to sign guys risk free either, guaranteed money still stays on the cap... it just gives more flexibility for teams. The league would put out a better product

Drury can’t wait til the deadline to sell because it isn’t possible to sell all of our inventory in a few days.

Never been more disgusted by an NYR team in my lifetime than this current one, specifically the core group. A bunch of prideless, spineless, entitled, soft losers who cower and shrivel into fetal position when adversity hits. Completely apathetic to the return a Kreider trade would yield at this point. Just eject him from the organization. Sam Rosen should be lambasting these guys on his way out.

Borgen tossing Paul, cross-checking Hagel and Miller launching Guentzel into the boards were the highlights of the game tonight.

Blast Drury and Laviolette + Housley to the sun. Bring in Mathieu Darche from Tampa to be the new GM.
