Laf needs to get away from Panarin to grow. As a 1OA forward that was just extended, he should be play driver for whatever line he is on. Playing with Panarin, he will clearly never get to be that guy. His whole NHL career has been about learning how to play with his linemates and adjust his game to theirs. He's got to start being the puck carrier and driver of offense, and getting the team to acclimate to him.

Top reddit post for you clowns still nutsucking Deangelo

Maybe when he gets kicked off his 9th team and in trouble with his 4th league he’ll be better!

I do wonder if theres any contenders looking for 2 dmen and we could package lindgren and borgen at 50% retained for a 1st.

The Sens might be ready to dish a 1st for a playoff spot and they could use 2 dmen.

It didn't even mention under the first bullet that he was thrown out before the 3rd period for an altercation on bench with an assistant coach (caught on cameras).

@The Crypto Guy Is this to your satisfaction?

Even our best posters defer to Panarin!
I don't know anything, I just look at the results and come to the conclusion that the hockey tells me to come to.

This year, the Rangers are averaging 3.26 goals per 60 with Panarin and Lafreniere. When Lafreniere is out there without Panarin, the number dies and goes to Hell to the tune of 0.97 goals per 60 (two goals in 121 minutes!!)

One of these days you guys are gonna make me snap, and when I tell the judge you wanted to separate Lafreniere and Panarin, he's gonna let me go free for offing Tob.

Lafreniere the last three years with/without Panarin

CF - 56.5%/49.4%
GF - 52.4%/50%
xGF - 53.3%/47.1%
GF/60 - 3.35/2.56

He is much better at everything when he's playing with Panarin than without.

"Maybe he just needs to get away from Panarin" is lunacy.
Poor Lafreniere, seems like there are no good possible linemates for him. Maybe Laviolette should throw him out on the ice by himself so he can be free from the shackles of his teammates and flourish.

IMO Laffy suffers from what all our top players suffer from.

They stop skating and stay on the perimeter. Keep moving your feet and attack the middle.

That line has been in a funk but it seems like they may be slowly getting out of it
With Panarin, sometimes it's "won't." That's a legitimate criticism of Panarin. He has the ability to do what he wants.

With the others there's a whole lot of "can't." They don't handle the puck well enough to get it into hard areas.

I'm not convinced that Lafreniere isn't in the latter based on what I've seen. He's been very poor at carrying the puck as this level.

my unspoken fear has always been that Laf’s “glimpses” are directly tied to playing with Panarin

I'm not shocked Lafreniere's underlying numbers look better with Panarin. I dont think it necessarily correlates to winning to have them on the same line. Especially when Lafreniere is playing his off wing.

He has shown the ability to drive possession and finish scoring chances at a decent rate on his own.

To be entirely fair, his minutes away from Panarin have been with mostly plugs (like that idiot Kakko), which might be making the numbers worse than they should be.

He's a guy that's going to be good on the cycle and is a very good finisher, not dissimilar from the best version of Kreider.

He's not a playmaker on the puck. He doesn't force the puck into prime real estate. He doesn't show the skill to make plays in the build-up. I don't think it needs to be Panarin, specifically, or somebody as good as him, but Lafreniere needs to be with a puck-carrier.

The notion that Lafreniere can get away from Panarin to take over his own line with the main puck-handling duties has not been demonstrated by the player.

To me he has been hit and miss at puck carrying. You see glimpses of elite puck handling talent, so u know he can do it.

But all too often you just see bleh, like he is overthinking (not letting the game come to him) or even worse not trying which seemed to be December.

And as another poster added, he floats alot. He does try to get to open areas, but his feet arent constantly moving. And he is avoiding contact this year which he wasnt in past years.

I really have no clue why Laf isnt putting up big numbers. Is it not meshing, is it in his head, is it a combination?

I dont think it is talent. There is a reason he was a clear cut #1 and u have seen glimpses of it. But effort, consistency and drive have all been up/down sideways and just wonky.
