And they had a coach who knew what he had, and used a system that played to the personnel's strengths.

I feel like ever since Torts, we just had coaches who either just threw players over the boards with no guidance, or forced them to play a system that wasnt suited for the roster.
Definitely the latter. Since the letter, they brought in coaches to implement a north-south style of play -- which was crazy since the majority of the roster were east-west players.

This team isn't trading Panarin, he's our only elite forward
don't stand pat, move to get ahead going forward
bread at almost half 5.1+ -> 6pm per to ANA, who retains another 2.5-3 per, at cost to DAL
max reduced Panarin flipped to Stars
2 later Rs 2nds to DAL
Bisch. to Rs
2 sooner DAL 1sts to Rs

I don’t know a single coach in the nhl who doesn’t want his players playing north south

The East-West vs North-South thing is bullshit.

Good players play with skill and they play directly.

If you can't do both of those things, you're either a passenger or shouldn't be out there at all.

The problem with our roster, drum roll please, is having a bunch of players that aren't very good!!!

Panarin doesn't have the pace or strength to play north-south unless it's in transition and he's found space. He also holds the puck at full length from his body, so he's always ready to make a pass, 99 percent of the time which diminishes his stickhandling.

He hasn't beat a defenseman for pace on the dribble since 2019. McDavid is basically Panarin plus Duchene/MacKinnon/Chytil in terms of being the playmaking threat, with north-south pace and maneuverability.

It's one of the reasons I think Panarin needs a stint with Chytil. There has to be someone on his line to be a veritcal threat and gt defenders to back off. As it is right now, they can always close on Panarin at the blue line.

He's definitely more of a guy who uses his size down low than he is throwing massive hits. He's pretty good in the cycle game and at coming off the walls to take shots

Is he good defensively and can he skate? I heard mixed things about his skating

I'd also say that one of the problems with the team currently is not enough guys who can create a mismatch, be it with speed, skill, size, etc. You really need someone who can pull a second defender to himself to open things up with teams clogging the middle of the ice like they all do now. Chytil does this. Panarin can do this. Trochek does this. The guys who can get away in a 1v1 battle

That wasn’t what I was saying.
Every single coach wants his players to play more north south. That’s not to say that every player in the nhl is capable of playing north south.
Two very different things.

Kreider to IR. Knew that was coming.
loling. i'm gonna find whoever it was who insisted THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS BACK like three days ago.

btw he was our only realistic trade chip of value. he's not getting moved after IR back issues, at least not for real value.

we're not trading Panarin
we're not trading Trocheck
We're not trading Miller
We're not trading Zibanejad
we're not trading Borgen
were not trading Igor
we're not trading Laf
we're not trading Fox

smith, vesey, brodz, and maybe Lindgren - no assets that would return more than a 3rd each.

do you see what I'm saying y'all? the owner will not allow a sell year off the heels of the best record in franchise history. they have cap space and they're going to rent to fill it. if you think they wouldn't trade their 1st you have your head in the sand.

Trocheck and Kreider return a 1st+ easily.

No one is going to take a few months in a shit situation more seriously than years of the contrary. Kreider is starting to play his way out of his f***ery anyway.

Kreider doesn’t have chronic health issues. Hes recovered. He had chronic effort issues.
lol, this one.

I dont doubt he's hurt but what do you make of the healthy scratch a week or so ago? You dont get called out as a healthy scratch if you're really hurt.

No guarantee he'll play. He might. But if you think this is some kind of conspiracy then that would be pretty absurd.

I think he's on IR because between the back nagging him and his terrible play, it's best for everyone if he sits out for a week or so.

Good point Larry

I don't despise him. What's there to despise?

How the tram has to run through him and he wont lead.

How he has always half assed like half a season.

How he pouts with his buddy zib.

How we finally get two high picks but the team has more interest in keeping him happy than developing talent.

How he is massively overrated by rangers fans. Bc of one extremely lucky 50 goal sason.

He's an average skater. Not slow, but not a burner. He's efficient with the puck in getting out of the zone
He is a below average skater, for sure. He was drafted with subpar skating and defensive ability and not much has changed. By all accounts he is a really, really weird guy. And this was ultimately the main factor to him dropping out of the 1st round come draft day.

I am glad we took a shot on him. He is still young and maybe needs a change of scenery. He put up gaudy numbers at one point in his career and maybe he unlocks that here. He is good when the puck is on his stick in the offensive zone.
