Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

False accusations do happen but when they do, they tend to fall apart pretty quickly once facts start being gathered. Perhaps Dolan said "f*** this, I don't want to deal with the distraction" and just wrote a check to make it go away but thats a bit of a stretch. I can't imagine Artemi being okay with that if he were truly innocent. It would have been a story for 3 seconds and then immediately rebuffed if there wasn't hard evidence because thats what tends to happen when shit like this isn't true.
The accusations probably are not false in general. There is no doubt that she went to his room and he made an advance, this wouldn't have gotten out to the press in the way it did if that part wasn't true and admitted. The extent of how she reacted to the advance, how serious she took it, and how the relationship between her and Panarin after the fact is what we don't know. That is what Dolan was probably not interested in finding out during discovery, and the woman, who reported this incident did this to secure her bag after she was fired. Panarin should have been fired too, unless MSG was worried about some sort of counter suit or whatever.

1. Panarin doing anything like this with staff is bush league, unprofessional, and potentially criminal
2. The woman either didn't think it was news worthy until she was fired so she could secure her bag OR she was worried reporting it after it happened would have gotten her fired (probably), so she had nothing to lose at that point. MSG culture is so bad probably that I am leaning towards she was nervous about retribution.

People horse around on business trips EVERYWHERE around the globe, married or not. Many of our sports and celebrity heroes cheat and do things against our morals every day. So to that point, none of this should be a surprise. Sad, but I am not shocked, unless it was Hank, that would have surprised me.

Yeah, I understand why people are saying she should report it as soon as he takes the phone.

You have to remember that she's a female staffer in a male dominated industry and he's the star player on the team. If she reports that before he does anything physical, she's in trouble and not him.

Maybe we'll do it later. It'll bring over a bunch of dreck from the main boards and I don't wanna smell them.
We'll see how this story will go. Obviously the team considered it closed, but if it blows up now, maybe they have to reconsider their position. Or atleast, that's what a smart organization would do, not sure about this one. At that point, should make a separate thread.

Maybe not gentlemanly and gallant but I didn't have him pegged as a predator. Seemed like a chill guy. I agree with what you're saying about meeting heroes but this was pretty disappointing.

Yeah, I’m not saying anyone should have presumed he was a predator, but… an asshole? Yeah, I feel like if we take off the NYR colored glasses, Bread has “asshole vibes” literally oozing off of him. And I’m not belittling the situation by saying this - I’m actually condemning wayyy more players - but I’d wager there’s a few of these types of incidents that go unreported, per year, per team. This came to light because she was also NYR staff. I would be shocked if these types of low level SAs are not common place across every sports team in the country. Have you looked around? American pop culture sucks and 20-35 year old rich athletes are huge contributors to and consumers of the predominant pop culture. Their organizations sweeping them under the rug and/or them not being reported is probably massively common.

Yeah. Kreider sexually assaulted a woman and fostered the environment in which that would be acceptable behavior.

This is bad taste.... even for you.
Woah, take a step back. Nobody said Kreider did that, that wasn't the question, don't just make things up, thats how rumors start

Some people really fail to understand the power dynamics at play. I wonder if those people have ever been employed at a job, where there's a significant difference between the status of certain employees.

Someone leaked the story to Katie Strang. I wonder which party leaked the story. It wasn't the girl because she would lose her settlements. Put them in jeopardy. It wasn't Panarin's side because he is a married man with kids and he looks bad. It wasn't the Rangers. It happened in December 2023. It didn't happen a few months ago. I don't mean to disparage the victim but she sounds like a troubled person.
what the f***

"I don't mean to disparage the victim" but then you do it

get out of here with this shit

If you f***in read the article is also says it was a NHL source so someone outside the Rangers who saw it in a league capacity

I don't think she was going into the situation thinking Panarin had bad intentions. She may have been thinking if she jumped the gun and reported him before anything happened that there would be no evidence of anything occurring (because there wouldn't have been a chance for it to happen) and that she may have been reprimanded or lose access to something in some way for making a "baseless" report. But he put her in such a f***ed up spot by initially stealing her phone, because of how personal most people regard their phones she was probably just thinking "Okay whatever, I'll just go to his room to get my damn phone and be done with this." I'm sure a lot of these guys do weird shit (not necessarily toward team staff) and this could have just been seen as more weird, quirky shit from the weird, quirky Russian superstar.
I just had this discussion with my GF & she said basically the same thing as this. I countered to her that nothing positive could come from going to his room & she (my GF) would be putting herself in a bad position if she did that, but she was adamant that she would be angry enough to pursue him for her phone.

It's a really terrible position to be put in & if someone had a drink or two, it clouds the situation even more so. At the end of the day it sounds like an entitled athlete who also had a few drinks & didn't expect to be rejected. Hopefully he never plays another game for this team.

I of course tend to believe the victim, but there's quite a few holes in this story. And Panarin's wife is a freakin' smokeshow.

But regardless, fire Drury
sounds more like she put up with being assaulted in order to keep her job and it was only during the investigation into the anxiety meds that she brought it up (possibly because they asked if anything else had gone on, possibly because she felt "I have to put up with being assaulted in order to do my job and now they're going to fire me for one of the players asking for something to calm their nerves?"

It's easy to see the perspective of "I have to ignore being assaulted and let that player go free but if I try to help another player with something fairly innocuous I get fired for it, that's not fair"

He said on Brunson podcast team is going to his kids...just like his daddy did to him
Maybe the kids are more like Charles and less like fat oaf.

James Dolan has the IQ of a duck.

We all knew that firing Gorton and Davidson on a whim because of a scrum in a meaningless game against the Caps would come back to haunt us. I had my problems with Gorton, mostly because of Gordie Clark and Nick Bobrov's horrendous drafting record. However, Gorton has done an excellent job in Montreal. He's developed many exciting young players: Hutson, Slafk, and now Demidov. They made the playoffs, and they're posed for long-term success. Meanwhile, Drury is trading potential Gavin McKenna lottery tickets for a 32 year-old center.

The House of Dolan . . .

I find it interesting that this came out the morning of Sam’s last game which is kind of a big day for the franchise.

This has been in progress since Dec 2023 yet comes out today, of all days.

Did Strang release the story today on purpose, or did a source leak the information to her to coincide with this? Or am I connecting dots that aren’t connected (probably)?

Just seems to have an extra twist of the knife to release it this morning. Quite possibly rightfully so.

so the pill incident is probably what Vince was referencing in the article he published in December right? That social media wasn’t allowed to travel with the team after an incident in the spring 2024

Unless that’s a separate incident, which sadly I wouldn’t be surprised
