Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

The extra couple of mil in caphit is a non issue with the cap going up.

Trocheck was stapled to a 90 point winger all season and had significantly more ice-time and still cant outproduce Mika in his worst season being moved up and down the line-up all season long and having to carry Kreiders dead corpse for most of the time.

Yes, they both sucked but I rather take my chances with Mika going forward.
Aside from Kreider (who I have a lot of sympathy for because of his injury and management telling him through the media that he wasn't wanted back in November), Trocheck was by far the biggest disappointment to me all season (on a team with LOTS of disappointments). Non-stop, selfish decision making in his own zone. Horrible execution. Couldn't complete basic passes. Turnover machine.

The idea that some people want to tear it all down but still keep Trocheck is baffling to me. He's a huge part of the problem.

I hope you are jesting a little bit because this cant be serious. Mika, in the worst season in his career where he went up and down the line-up like a pingpong ball, played with different linemates every other night, saw his ice-time cut down, STILL outproduces Vinny.

Vincent f***ing Trocheck is an career average 50 point player dude. Like come on, what are we doing here

Vincent Trocheck has a career average 59 pts/82 games. In the last five years his average is 64 pts/82 games. In the last three years his average is 67 pts/82 games. He has never played a full season and scored under 50 points.

We don't need to lie about stats.

There's no question Mika was AWFUL for most of the year, in particular the first ~3 months. In aggregate, Trocheck was even worse.

You brought up Trocheck and I responded showing you that Trocheck was better in pretty much every area than Mika this year. Factoring in the contracts Trocheck was a more valuable player. One is getting paid like a 3C and one is getting paid like 1C. You can ignore that but I can’t.

If Kreider was truly injured then why has he been playing all along, why did he play in the four nations, and why is he still playing now when they just shut down Braden Schneider due to injury (an injury nobody has mentioned even once)? You would think if the team is shutting one player down after being eliminated, due to injury, they would shut down others as well. It's not like they don't have other bodies they can put int he lineup.

You are right, my bad. I have edited my post from 50 to 60.

I’ve seen good teams with less talent than this one. Let’s see how it plays out. You can sass me all season about it next year. Deal?
Well, sure, at least you'll admit you were wrong, unlike some people who watched Kreider score 300 f***ing goals and then took a victory lap when he got old.

And people who hate Adam Fox. They're wrong every day and could apologize at any time.

I can’t speak for them. I do think there’s been an absence of nuance on both sides of the aisle nowadays. Many such cases.

Lafreniere being the player with the 2nd most 5v5 points this season is a problem. Especially when people want to ship off the player with the most 5v5 points. Addition by subtraction can be a thing, but who's the meaningful addition by addition that gets us back to the playoffs, and how much are we wasting on that?

Ok, you are not jesting.

The Kreider stuff is my fav.

Same people who have been bagging on him since before he went pro are the same ones who are now pulling the I told you so card. Are we going to sit here and act like he wouldn't have gone top 5-6 in a re-draft? Rangers got him at 19th.

The only 3 players in his draft class who have scored more goals than he has went 1,3 and 4 (and E.Kane has 1 more goal.)

Those were the top 3 forwards in the draft.

The ending here has been ugly. It sucks for everyone involved and It's clearly time to move on from this player.

Everything before this year was mostly great and exceeded even the wildest expectations of the most optimistic and shattered the f*** out of the expectations of his biggest detractors.

I've never had strong opinions on Kreider besides wanting him traded over Buchnevich at that TDL, but whatever, what's done is done there. But to say that he's been bad or under-delivered on his contract any year until this one is just wrong

I was today years old when I found out Evander Kane has over 300 goals.
