Since "this is a bad team" still meets resistance, perhaps I should go through every spot.

Fox is slotted where he's supposed to be. Pats for Patrick. I hate Igor's contract and I hate goalies, but as a roster piece, he's obviously in the role he should be in. Cuylle is fine. There are better top six forwards, let's be honest, and I would rather him be with more talented linemates, but that's not his fault and he's fine.

Here are the rest of the forwards:

Miller, Zibanejad, and Trocheck are not real first line centers. This is massive, almost Stanley Cup-excluding hole right off the bat. I'm counting all of them because somebody has to play that role, and I'm not sending any of these guys out to match up with Barkov or McDavid. Also, "I have three Dalmatians, and that weighs as much as a German shepherd" is not how center depth works. The German shepherds on Florida and Tampa are going to eat all three of your Dalmatians.

Lafreniere sucks. Hard period. If I'm building a team to go out and win the Stanley Cup, I'm really not interested in any role for him tbh. He doesn't score enough to be a scorer, and he doesn't do...god damn anything to be a role player.

Kreider sucks. For however many years before this one, the Rangers scored like 60% of the goals when he was on the ice. He was a massive play-driver and now we can barely put him on the ice. Because anti-Kreider sentiment has existed for years, I think it's overlooked what a loss this was. A legit, slam dunk top six forward became a 4th liner. And given his age and injury history, I think he's probably cooked. It's another gaping hole.

Berard is great and arguably the sole player on the roster we're not playing high enough in the lineup, which is its own problem.

Othmann -I'm gonna be dragged for telling the truth here- is not a guy I'm penciling into an NHL top 9 right now. Absolutely, should get the opportunity, but it's a hole until somebody fills it.

Brodzinski certainly exists.

Parssinen is not an NHL player.

Rempe and Carrick are great but definitely 4th liners.

Oh man, now we get to talk about the defense!

Soucy should not be in the top six of a contending team. Full ass stop.

I don't know what Miller is. We've talked about the system and his partners. Maybe there's something there. It's a hole until I know it's filled. That's how this should work.

Borgen is fine but like, he should firmly be your 6th best defenseman and he's not.

Schneider, I'm sorry, kinda sucks. Maybe he improves but that's not the discussion I'm having right now. Hole until it's filled.

Urho is...I guess fine? He and Schneider as the third pair is probably not great, but it's the third pair, so Idk, but the problem is we have like five of these guys so you can't even say "well, it's the third pair" because it's bleeding into the top 4 like, a lot.

Jones is alive. The body is still warm.

So yeah, not counting the backup goalie and the 4th line, the Rangers have ONE defenseman, and ONE forward that are in the roles they should be.

This team is still worse than you probably think they are. It is really bad.

They were both pretty bad this year but Trocheck gets paid significantly less, scored the same amount of points, was 60% in the faceoff dot and was a -1 compared to Mika's -25(!). He also plays 3 more minutes a game on average. More hits, blocks and takeaways. Mika had less giveaways, but not by much (only 7).

No one really brought up Trocheck in the last few pages but if you insist Ive got time.
The extra couple of mil in caphit is a non issue with the cap going up.

Trocheck was stapled to a 90 point winger all season and had significantly more ice-time and still cant outproduce Mika in his worst season being moved up and down the line-up all season long and having to carry Kreiders dead corpse for most of the time.

Yes, they both sucked but I rather take my chances with Mika going forward.

Mika has never done anything when he’s played with Panarin. The only way you could even argue Mika is a better long term bet than Trocheck is if you took the contracts out of it, which isn’t possible. Even then if you took it to a vote it would probably be 70/30 in favor of Trocheck.

That being said, I would absolutely trade Trocheck this summer. But join us in the real world.

Thanks for this. I wouldn’t have figured out the Rangers were a bad team without it.

I should join you in the real world?

Buddy, you just out loud stated that Trocheck pound for pound is a better player than Zibanejad.

Ok so worse than that treatment. Just tell him he aint playing all season and to not show his face around the team.

And why would they do that? Since the start of January Mika has 37 points in 44 games. Second on the team (Would be third if Miller was here that long). How does telling him to stay home but still paying him make the team better? He also has a 52 GF% and 53 xG% at 5v5. He hasn't been a problem.

That's the usual thing with this board though. He got off to a horrible start this year. Wasn't scoring, missing the net on the PP, mishandling pucks and turning it over. He hasn't been like that for months. But, since that was the first impression (and did last a while) people absolutely refuse to change their mind/reevaluate.

That's not to say he's a positive for his salary or that they shouldn't make a move if they find one, but he has not been a negative on this team for a very long time. He's been one of the better players. If there's no trade to be made for assets/cap space to bring in someone else, the team is much better with him in the lineup than it is with him just being dead cap space as a scratch.

This is exactly why I made that post.

You don't have to agree with it, but way to sass me about it and then demonstrate exactly why I needed to point to the holes.

Did I say somewhere that they didn’t need to make changes to the roster?

Make a thread and let everyone vote on it. If I’m wrong I’ll gladly eat the crow. I’ve done it many times.
I hope you are jesting a little bit because this cant be serious. Mika, in the worst season in his career where he went up and down the line-up like a pingpong ball, played with different linemates every other night, saw his ice-time cut down, STILL outproduces Vinny.

Vincent f***ing Trocheck is an career average 60 point player dude. Like come on, what are we doing here

Just playing Devil's advocate here.....what happens if he does? You still have that huge chunk of dead cap space, he has a happy life DJing AND collecting a full salary. If you think we're a laughing stock now......
