Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

The culture isn’t the problem, the roster construction is. The Rangers simply do not have as much talent as the other best teams in the league. The reason they had to wait for Panarin and Fox to pull off magical feats is because that’s the only way they create any offense, when those two are on the ice.

But I’m not even opposed to trading Panarin in principle, however it makes no sense in the context of the J.T. Miller trade. Trading Panarin so that you can “build” around J.T. Miller teaching players how to play a more simplistic dumbed down version of hockey is a fools errand, which is what it seems like the plan is going forward.
I don’t think it’s either or…

The Trocheck dick riding is strong in this thread. His january-april was as bad as Mikas oct-dec and yet people look at him as someone who would change the culture. News flash, Vinny and JT are part of that lazy malaise sickness permeating through the roster.

This is not who I chose as the core, this is who the team thinks is the core according to Brooks.

I'm not discounting anybody -- every team in the league has stars. If you think that group of six players is good, relative to what other teams can ice, you need to watch some more teams.

Right, and agreed. Looking at the relevant place in time that each team is at, 90% of teams are at least matching us. And at this stage, I don’t believe in the term “discounting Shesterkin”. He’s THE goalie in the league according to pay roll. Right now he needs to establish himself as even being a for sure top 10 goalie.

Doing six, leaving out UFAs who may re-sign, and just my estimate on every team…

Anaheim: Carlsson, McTavish, Mintyukov, Lacombe, Zellweger, Dostal and so much more youth

Pick 4 that are *definitively* worse than us. Even doing debatable ones and factoring age I’ve got Washington, Vancouver, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Islanders, Nashville, Boston?

It’s a bottom 3 to bottom 6 core in the NHL, even if you include guys Brooks didn’t in his article.

I don’t think it’s either or…
It's not but building around a lack of skill creates a next generation with a lack of skill.

Really, it's either or for the team and I'm tired of it. They don't get NHL offense so they go back to meat shield hockey when they can't do it.

Get better at it.

You sound like a broken record. We get it,Vinnie stunk,Mika stunk...they all stunk. You're regurgitating the same shit to defend Mika and bash Vinnie. They all sucked-thats the bottom line.

The same broken record that is Chris Kreider is garbage and the reason the season went to shit?

Maybe you never said it, maybe you did. But there are a ton of people on this here board that were a "broken record".

Would very much like to see the Rangers acquire a young center this summer. Marco Rossi, Mason McTavish. Ryan McLeod. 3 guys who will need new contracts this summer. Kandre Miller is the man to trade to make it happen. Pushes Trocheck to line 3 where he belongs and the new guy can split the top 6 responsibilities with JT. Im sure there are other options. We've got plenty of youth on the wings.

Edstrom is a guy I would like to see played at center as well. We've missed him since the injury. I am intrigued by Dylan Roobreck and Noah Laba. I think they can move fast and make it to the NHL sooner than later.

Then say it. Dont pretend one players shit dont stink while bashing another for the exact same flaws.

I am at least admitting both stunk major horse manure.

They were both pretty bad this year but Trocheck gets paid significantly less, scored the same amount of points, was 60% in the faceoff dot and was a -1 compared to Mika's -25(!). He also plays 3 more minutes a game on average. More hits, blocks and takeaways. Mika had less giveaways, but not by much (only 7).

No one really brought up Trocheck in the last few pages but if you insist Ive got time.

The only criticism of the roster per se is a lack of true 1LD.

(Everyone and their aunt were betting on this roster minus JTM going to SCF after last playoffs with some targeted offseason moves)
If that's people's only criticism of the roster, then they're wrong. This just isn't a good hockey team. I don't know how else to spell it out.
