Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

That doesn't explain how he can play fairly well then promptly sit for 18 games...especially after Soucy stunk up the joint.
We see it in all sports with players. Sometimes reputation, sometimes they're more beat up than meets the eye. He might have a reputation as a free spirit, (kind of like how Del Zotto was....immature but the average fan would never know).

Remember Jarko Immonen? He looked perfectly fine playing in the NHL and then again at the Olympics in 2010, yet wasn't given another chance after the Rangers. I'm not saying he was a star, just he looked competent and produced for the Rangers in his limited minutes. Never got another shot. Why?

Skating. Same reason he didn't get a look anywhere else in the NHL after us.
Similar to Andersson in some respects. You could see the skill at AHL level but the skating, especially first stride which they couldn't improve enough, meant they wouldn't stick

He produced in very limited minutes. You'd figure someone would give him a look or work with him on his stride.

Last post for the day.

-If they can stay in top ten, keep the pick this year and defer next year. If next year is a mess, they can always get a first back for Panarin. Kreider probably gets a second this year, and if he somehow is still around in July, maybe he can get a first next year with surgery or recovery this summer.

-K. Miller gets one more shot to train his ass off and prove it. He knows what he has to work on. He should hire a personal coach because the tools are all there.

-While Blake Wheeler wasn't a main contributor, he was an adult in that room. His presence was obviously missed this season.

-I never thought I'd get so worked up over the CDH thing...it was more the "Is it too hard or impossible to win in NY" post.

-I know I can be very hard and blunt and sometimes if not often, some posters really don't like my opinions or think I'm a douche. I'm just a frustrated fan who sees all the other Northeast cities win, and the teams I root for constantly do dumb things and miss on generational or elite players. It's been over 13 years. I see my friends parents becoming senior citizens, and some of them want to see another Rangers or Mets or Yankees or Jets etc. championship in their lifetime yet alone ours and it just seems we as NY fans haven't had one of our teams luck into a championship like the Celtics/Dodgers did recently (other than 2012). So yeah, I'm the first to admit I'm a jealous douche of all the other Northeast cities.

I think there's a very ruthless law of diminishing returns in the NHL.
Teams will very quickly move on to the next thing that has the traits they want rather than really work on correcting something, unless the perceived upside is huge.
For a guy like Immonen the upside just wasn't there, and from his POV Europe was probably a far better place than the AHL to work on his game. Once he was back there unless his stats went through the roof it was always going to be a battle to come back.

The road to the NHL is littered with very good players who either had a minor flaw or were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and by the time that was corrected, the league had moved on

I think some people are underestimating Breads value. Even this season he out performed everyone else on this team. I would be surprised if other teams weren't very interested. I could even see us extending him if the situation fit.

Even Larry says Mentally Weak and Sensitive group. This is all on Drury

Gives Drury a pass, but doesn’t even mention Laf as part of this core team, who Drury extended, lol. We’re run morons until he’s gone, he runs through coaches like toilet paper, yet he gets credit for the team being runner ups in the East, not the coaches lol.

Panarin? The Rangers just missed the playoffs with Panarin. Another season of the Rangers wanting to play north and south and Panarin wants to play east and west. The next coach will already be undermined.

These people here are funny. Nobody can be traded because the return will be poor and they only want to trade the players who are struggling. Crazy logic.
Do you thinking Drury is on the hot seat after this De Haan tidbit that came out today?

Is DeHaan just pissed that he didn't play/wasn't given opportunitieshe wanted (fair enough, but so is every other guy ranked 21-23 on the roster) or is there actually more to it?

I'm most angry about the fact that Jones and DeHaan were great assets that have been wasted because of the coaches obsession with playing Vaak and Schneider for 20+ mins a game

I fully understand this keep this pick, defer next years …..

but I’d rather keep next years, this team will definitely be worse or about the same next year and a lottery pick is much better than a late 20s pick from panarin.

That’s all I’m going to say just to remind people. A top 10 pick is more valuable than a late 20s
