Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

Columbus. J.D. is familiar with him. Werenski is always injured and they could be losing Provolov. The Jets are losing Pionk, and will be left with only 1 puck moving D. The Kings have reportedly been interested in him before, and only have RD who are considered puck movers, with one being a rookie, and the other is close to 40. Edmonton. There are probably a lot of teams that think that they can straighten Miller out, and some may actually be able to. That’s why I think his trade value is greater than his actual value. We just need to be sure we get equal or better value in turn.
JD has no influence anymore in Columbus. He is an advisor. He lives in Florida and has discussed having a pod with Sam starting next season. His Columbus deal is probably expiring soon. I like Denton Mateychuk.

I am done with Miller. Maybe a new coaching staff will be better for him. He is up for a new deal this summer. Miller makes too many soft plays. He shares the same agent as Goodrow. If Miller was one of the upset players, he needs to go. IF another team offer sheets Miller and the comp is a #1 and #3 or a #1,#2 and #3, take the picks and move on. All 2026 draft picks.

Kreider is a goner, which is sad. But the return should be sweet.

Key can be moved, doesn't work out and I guess we arent willing to wait any longer. Should fetch a decent pick at the draft. If not re-sign and trade next season depending on how it goes.

JT has two more years with an NMC, after that, I'm taking the best offer and running.

Laf ... one to two years, if he doesn't improve, he should get dealt to MTL for a massive haul.

Zibs ... should continue on the right wing. Can't be dealt. Not gonna entertain waiving fantasies.

We're stuck with Fox and Shesty. Which isn't the worst thing, but without more game-changing talent (speed!!) we're never going to get the Cup.
The Rangers cup window is over. The Rangers need more talent. The Rangers need more speed. The Rangers need more size and strength. These players come from the draft and keep trading away picks. The Rangers need a competent GM and HC. Anything else?

PuckPedia has a list on offer sheets. Which teams have their picks and are able sign players to offer sheets.

The compensation numbers will change this summer.

Keep Cuylle.

Some of the teams are not very good. If they want to sign Miller to a deal worth $4.5M to $6.8M and give up 2 or 3 picks including a first round pick in 2026, take the picks. For the people who love the 2026 draft and hate Miller, this is the best option. An unprotected first round pick in 2026 plus a 3rd and maybe a 2nd.

Why isn't anyone talking about Fox's goal totals anymore as to why he sucks ass?
The Rangers have flamed out this season and you are taking victory laps on Fox hitting ten goals this season. Another season without a championship and they are so far away from actually winning a championship but you bring up Fox. Adam is one of the biggest disappointments on this team and a major reason why the Rangers failed to make the playoffs in a mediocre conference.

He is about the 10th reason why at best. Maybe the 13th reason why for several people here the way they post about him

It isn’t victory laps, it is just amusing. Drury is far from a normal GM thus far so at this point I am just gonna enjoy the show

Fox hasn't been the same player since Aho kneed him in November 2023. Then there was the Jenson kneeing last April. Every hit seems to take something out of him. He comes back to play but something seems to be missing. His defense partners are no good. He played with the best American D at the 4 Nations and Fox still struggled. Drury or whomever will be charge needs to look at every player on the roster/

I think there’s a more than decent chance this team makes moves around the edges than does anything substantial.

I think you’re gonna see Kreider out the door. Maybe a defensemen gets traded. But I’m more inclined to believe there isn’t a big overhaul of the roster.

Someone said that they have 48 hours post lottery to decide what want to do with it.

Wouldn’t really make sense for them to be forced to do it before knowing where it’s going to be but the league is kind of dumb so I get asking.
It’s a Top 10 pick, there’s no decision to make. What are we even talking about here?

I didn’t realize that about J.D. I hope that podcast works out, thanks. Agree about Miller.

I think we should credit Drury for the addition of Carson Soucy. Much maligned at the time but in 15 games he has a 55% CF% and xG% and about a 53 GF%. Looks like he was exactly what Fox needed and Drury identified it. Lindgren/Fox didn’t have results like that this year.

I know this year has been horrific but everyone had a bad year but Cuylle and Berard and they still have 81 points. It's not possible to have Igor and Fox and have 55 points. That's just not a thing.

They're didn't sign Igor to bottom out. The pick they keep and flip for a top 4 LD. Maybe flip with KAM for a top 2 LD. A real one.
If they move CK/Panarin/Mika, you easily bottom out.
We'll be in games, but we won't win many of them without the scoring.

The two most obvious moves to make are dumping Kreider (a bag of pucks or waivers is the best we are going to do) and trading Kandre for a young top 6 forward, preferably a center. Lafreniere and Fox need to get locked in a gym instead of doing the bagel podcast and chopt salad ads. Bring in a coach who will emphasis protecting the netfront on defense and a meritocracy for young players.

Hire Messier to replace Drury if they are gonna go that route. f*** it. Joe Sakic didnt have "experience" when he got promoted to the top chair in Colorado. people forget he was an "advisor" to the owner and knifed Roy to get full control. But Mess somehow isnt experienced despite being around the game nonstop since his playing career ended. At least he cares.

Gallant was fired with one or two years remaining on his contract. $3.5M per. It was reported to be a four year contract at the time of the hiring but then LeBrun reported Gallant was under contract through 23-24 after the Rangers fired him. Perhaps the 4th year was an option. Laviolette has one more season remaining on his contract. $4.9M. Gallant didn't get another job to offset the difference in salary.. Laviolette isn't getting another job this cycle. I realize the Garden has a lot of money but doesn't Dolan wonder why I am paying people to sit at home and do I really trust Drury to hire another coach?

Drury will hire another experienced guy because he can't get this one wrong because it's his ass next time. He has already failed with the two experienced coaching hires. Unless the personnel changes, the Rangers could hire the next Al Arbour or the Mike Keenan from 1984-85 and they will still fail. Drury controls the personnel. He has complete control. There is nobody above him.
Between Gallant and Brad Richards....the Rangers have sent a lot of fishnagles ....[JD term} to PEI to have guys sit home . . I think I read in Turk's book he had a 4 yr deal . They had a non disclosure on his deal as well.....he was muted if fired . I think he has had a couple of enjoyable seasons watching his grandchildren grow and play hockey .
