Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

Columbus. J.D. is familiar with him. Werenski is always injured and they could be losing Provolov. The Jets are losing Pionk, and will be left with only 1 puck moving D. The Kings have reportedly been interested in him before, and only have RD who are considered puck movers, with one being a rookie, and the other is close to 40. Edmonton. There are probably a lot of teams that think that they can straighten Miller out, and some may actually be able to. That’s why I think his trade value is greater than his actual value. We just need to be sure we get equal or better value in turn.
It's fine, they need to get someone who is stable and just a solid unassuming good. I don't think LA would give up Anderson, and Moverare is a major downgrade.

This disaster of a season can't end soon enough!! This season was a sacrifice by Mangement to sign Igor$...
I understand there were no options but can't expect to Not have repercussions.

This team won the presidents' trophy last year.. and starting in the offseason the GM seeks to exile the captain and dump Goodrow, who was a leadership guy in the room.... because he was brought in to be such a person.

The supposed for sale sign that Drury hung up, what message does that send?

Couldn't management have waited until AFTER this season with group to make these moves and resign Igor?

They essentially just pissed this whole season away.

He's been so bleh, is slow, and undynamic. Watching him is a bland experience. He's also out of position a lot.

If there's a way to eat 50% and get like a 5th for him, I'd sign up 24/7/365.

The Panthers won The Cup with Mikkola and Kulikov. Both guys were considered okay, but not great bottom pairing guys before their arrival Bleh, sloe, undynamic.

If Soucy performs well then who cares if his play is ugly? The measurements are positive.

you're then forced into bad cap decisions because other teams have you over a barrel.

When theres options and you're not forced to make a move, you get far better offers.

The idea that there may be some justification for the way guys behaved and performed because two guys were unceremoniously shipped out is laughable.

These are professional players that had a job to do. Do your f***ing job. If you're not happy, ask to be traded, the request would have gladly been accommodated.

Staying and putting on the pouty mouth is f***ung pathetic.

how can we talk about laviolette and housley being all time suck squad and then judge a young player for not having played his best under that staff?

If you put kandre in a position to succeed he will be an asset. he's the only f***ing defenseman they have who can skate the puck up the ice.
Miller's decision making is AHL level at best.

He is one of the dumbest defenders I remember the Rangers dressing in years. YEARS.

it's not soucy. you can live with soucy. but pairing soucy with fox is idiocy. insidious idiocy. insidiocy.

play him with Schneider on the 3rd pair and find a real top 4 LD. now install a system that fits the personnel. there, D is fixed.

One advantage in having Saucy with Fox is that it makes Fox’s skating ability look like Yvan Cournoyer in comparison..

I’m not getting the warm fuzzy that we got very good offers this year. Waiting until next year couldn’t be much worse, and we would have been in the playoffs this year.

Mikkola would have been our 2nd best Dman this year.

Yes but the reason for this may be due to the fact that they appear to have, and have had for a while, no depth.

I get the argument against playing Fox with Lindgren or Soucy but if we just look at the players the team has on defense and slot them appropriately:

Fox - 1
Miller - 3
Borgen - 5
Schneider - 5
Soucy - 6
Vaak - 7
Jones - 7

If we assume the team wants to actually consistently play 3 pairings, it become far harder to put pairings together.

Miller-Fox would be great but then you’re left with Soucy-Borgen and Vaak-Schneider. Not ideal.

I truly think that if the team could add a coupe of middle pairing d-men, one who could compliment Fox and one who could push Borgen down, the team is considerably better. They should have the cap space.

I’m not enamored with Schneider myself. He’d be a guy I’d look to move for an improvement somewhere. That leaves:
Fox
Miller
Borgen
Soucy
Vaak

Add two pieces to this group. I’d love for one to be a younger guy perhaps brought back in a trade and sign a veteran who can compliment the playing type needed. They need to improve their ability to move the puck effectively to the forwards.

Mikkola was not that good here.

Has Soucy really been that ok here? Analytics? Eye test is terrible.

I remember he was competent with Fox and very uninspiring otherwise. He was not good in the Devils series.

Was his worst possible situation because he's worst at moving the puck and that was what we simply couldn't get done against the Devils.

He also didnt have much time to familiarize himself with the system

On paper, these were the right moves

Moving an $8M 3rd pair dman and $4M 4th liner are absolute wins on ANY NHL roster.

Resigning Lindgren during last season looks more and more like a blunder considering he was as bad as, if not worse than Trouba, but Drury went out of his way to resign him followed by moving those other pieces.

It would have been ideal to start removing the bad pieces around last deadline and working it into this season. I feel that a conversation should have been had with Trouba regarding his play to let him know that had he not improved there were gunna be changes.

Culture is a mess in this team, Drury would be best to hire someone who can play middle man between the coaching staff and the management level
