Give Pitt this year's pick. Trade Z and Kreider for futures. Try to fix the defense.

Gavrikov. Ekblad. A trade. Use Jones, Schneider, Kreider and Z (or their returns) to get it done.

literally just sign Gavrikov and then trade one of our 49 wingers for an actual 3C and this isnt half bad:

Top 6: Panarin, Miller, Lafreniere, Trocheck, Perreault and one of Zibanejad/Kreider/Othmann (two of these get traded for the 3C, ideally it's for Ryan McLeod)
3rd line of Cuylle, Berard and the 3C
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe/Brodz

Gavrikov-Fox
Miller-Borgen
Vaak-Schneider

with the right coach i dont hate that. i think Vaak is more of a 7th D and i would love to bring back Gus since he's the only player Schneider has ever looked good with so maybe that's possible as well.

I just don't want to see anymore of Miller-Borgen. It's just another Miller-Trouba except less offense.

Laf's value is going to be insanely low, it'd be much a better idea to just hold onto him. you have to think about the way he played in the playoffs last year and hope he can find that again.
If MON bites I would gamble big here. LaF downturn not good for his value/moving now. Exception: Reinbacher otherwise worth more. But some med issue w/both knees!
Signif? no idea
If rein = somewhat damaged goods, Rein for LaF straight up
best case scenario for us - Rein returns + crushes it, at least for a few yrs even if not long term
worst case scenario - we lost out on a 1OA opportunity but have jettisoned most of his contract hit

yeah i dont really like it either but i'd be ok seeing what it looks like under a new defensive system. i feel like i don't notice Borgen anywhere near as much as I did Trouba during the game, he's at least not getting dominated by the opposing teams 3rd line left winger all night long.

but yeah, on a GOOD team, Borgen is on the 3rd pair

Can Igor be traded before his extension NMC?
He has a 10-team NTC until July 1st. He can, in theory, be traded at any time before or after July 1st, though it obviously becomes more difficult after. I don't think management has any thought whatsoever of trading him, though, so it's probably moot.

Borgen has had a worse xGF percentage as a ranger than Trouba had in any of his seasons as a Ranger. Borgen is just another scrub who had a decent stretch but his true colors showed. The fact Drury extended him is a fireable offense in its own right. I'm just tired of settling for garbage.

Replied in the draft watch thread accidentally but yes this is it. Give Pittsburgh the pick this year unless it’s like top 5.

We need a new coach and some UFA upgrades to replace the rotten core (Zib, Kreider) and we could conceivably be in a better spot.

Depends who we target.

Marner would be great but I know it flies in the face of Drury’s fascination with grit. Same with Ehlers. Doesn’t have the tenacity but does bring scoring touch.

Bennett and Marchand would make us harder to play against and help overhaul the room but is there anything meaningful left on the bone for Marchand. Also, Bennett will be in huge demand and could easily become Goodrow 2.0 (overpaid) down the road and not sure how much a difference a consistent 40-50 point player will make.

Top 6 of
Panarin - Trocheck - Laf
Marner/ Marchand - Miller - Perrault

Might not be half bad. But this would also require us to inject scoring into bottom 6 because right now it’s a lot of unproven youth and vets with minimal scoring presence.

Jones is covering the guy infront of the net lol.

He can’t cover both guys. Othmann lost his guy there but 80s is right, this one was on Rempe not making the easiest exit ever.
I would take the guy with the puck. He’s 2 feet away from the other guy. If he passed the puck it would have hit him. That was pathetic.

Rempe needed to move the puck faster with more urgency but Fox lost Sanheim. More egregious than Jones
I agree. I’m done with the Rempe experiment. I just couldn’t believe an NHL defenseman would do what Jones did, I guess because the camera caught it just right.

And then his forecheck caused a turnover and we scored with him screening the goalie the next shift. I don’t get why you feel the need to turn this into Rempe vs other kids rather than the lazy vets. But if you want to go there. Through Rempe’s first 5 NHL games he had as many points as Othmann & Perreault do in their 26 games combined (and more goals! They haven’t even scored one). They’ve spent many of those in the top six and getting PP2 time. One of those Rempe games played was only 13 seconds. Not to mention all the other intangibles he brings. You just hate the kid but he is the least of our problems, if half the vets worked as hard as him we’d be in the playoffs right now.
Idk who you want to sit. Mika/Kreider? Im totally down to give them 4th line ice time but definitely not sit them for Rempe lol. Rempe isn’t good
