Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

I really don't think it's going to be Torts.

I don't think Drury was overly fond of him when he played under him and if he and York nearly came to blows theres no way that they're going to touch that.
The fact Drury and torts didn't get along and the issues between the room and Drury might actually play towards why he is considering it bc he knows first hand what torts would do to the divas in that room. Everyday at training camp Mika would be forced to eat a porterhouse...

The most disappointing Ranger this year to me is Lafreniere. With all the shit going this year, you would think as a #1 overall pick. He would grab the rein and take the team as his. Instead, he played like a 4th line rookie. No fight in him, missing most of the games, horrible hockey player. Trade him for a bag of pucks.

He's been given every opportunity by the coach. Never demoted, for any significant length, out of the top six. He plays with the best forward on the team.

You might have an argument that he should have been bumped up to PP1, but was that really going to move the needle this season?

There is not a single player on this team that I would be overly upset with losing/trading.

I think that says something, to me at least.

I've always had those couple of players that, to me, represented the current roster. The players that I wore on my jerseys. The players who I was upset with losing.

Beukeboom, Leetch, Lundqvist, Callahan, etc.

This team is made up of a collection of misfits and prima donnas. And not in an endearing way.

Since nothing is probably changing in the next week.

My tiers:
Good - #10, #22, #50
Fine - #32, #73, #39, #4, #17, #84, #65, #8
Meh - #23, #18, #78, #6, #31
Disappointing - #13, #16
Major Disappointment - #93, #79
Sad - #20
Who cares - #24, #44, #71, #34, #96
N/A - #94

I would have thought it more possible before the York stuff came out.

I don't know if it got physical or the if rumors that he told York not to sign back in Philly bc he would bury him are true, but something clearly happened there and I tend to lean towards it being the former because York got scratched right after Torts got fired/resigned/whatever (maybe it was both.)

You can accomplish what you're looking for with out Torts and the Diva problem is probably better solved by moving them out rather than giving someone else a chance to wrangle them.

What in the ever loving hell is going on with some of the players on this team

The juice is GONE from this club. Its necessary to make some big wholesale changes to this roster and staff if they want to turn it around next year

Someone remind me of the deal with our 1st round pick again?
No problem.

We'll use it on the 12th or 13th overall pick this year. 14 or lower and it goes to Pittsburgh. But we're both unlucky and dumb. So it'll be 12th or 13th.

Next year this club will be even worse and the pick will be top 5 in a fairly deep draft. Pittsburgh will have that pick unprotected and will draft their next generational talent.

Clear things up?

Lafreniere has the 2nd most EV points on this team after Panarin. He doesn’t get PP1… but people look at him as a scapegoat. He’s still just 23.
Sure, it’s rational to be pissed he’s not scoring MORE, doing MORE, but he’s down the list of reasons this team is missing the playoffs this year, and he and Fox are the only prominent players I can see actually not being on the downswing…

I think they're both safe.

And I can say, well look Chris Kreider is third on the team in goals with 21 in only 64 games. But that's kind of sad when you consider the season in totality. It's all how you want to look at things. Kreider has had a really poor season. What's that mean for the rest of them if he's still third?

And then I could say that Lafreniere has what, 3 goals in his last 31 games or something like that?

It's all how you look at it.

Montreal has clinched essentially. So I've no problem with losing out the remaining games just to be able to keep the pick and have a higher-than-zero chance of getting a decent draftee. 2026 will be 2026. Just hope we don't finish even worse next year.

Reading the tea leaves, which are pretty strong, Torts is either going to take over for Drury or be put in place above him with the authority to review/review/keep/fire/replace him.

He's moved beyond coaching IMHO.

Drury is godawful, so I'm a tentative yes on it. It would be completely on-brand for Dolan.

Vally should be hired in some capacity as a pro scout. Director. Consultant. Something. As for GM, who knows. Coach? Who cares.

He's got way too much insight of all the little nuances that make up a succesful hockey player.

Seems a waste to have him in the studio a few minutes a night and not on the ice teaching/coaching or running as head of one of the Player Dev/Scouting Depts.

Unless he's been offered and declined chosing to have his toe in the water but enjoy retirement.

Kreider is going to finish the season with less than 30 points.

I don't really think there is a question who the most disappointing player on the team has been. He has as many primary assists this season as Carson Soucy has as a Ranger.

Panarin's point drop off from last year to this year is going to be around 30 points but we knew some level of fall off was coming, 120 is a f***ing high ceiling to fall from though.

Kreider's raw point production drop off from last year to this year is going to be damn close to 50 points. I think theres some bad luck involved but not almost 50 points worth.
