But we're ok with unintentionally losing?

We simply don't have the talent or pipeline to build a winner with the current roster and assets.

The choices are:

- deliberately lose and create a way out through the draft.
- unintentionally lose and keep spending draft capital on Soucy level players.

I know which one I'd pick.

Those arent the only 2 options but ok. You dont have to agree with my stance on things.

I don’t see what the blueprint is for getting this team back to contention anytime soon without rebuilding quite frankly. Are we going to bank on McDavid or Eichel reaching UFA and for some reason leaving much more successful teams to sign with the Rangers? Are we trading Panarin, which would constitute making the team worse and taking a step back and somehow that’s going to catapult the rangers into contention? What’s the play here? For those who are vehemently against becoming Buffalo, are you more content becoming the Islanders or Minnesota?

imo:

If pick is in the top 7, you keep it.
If it's out side of that, you take your chances and give it to Pittsburgh.

This team is not improving that much next season.
He’s keeping the pick if it’s top 13. That is the reason he made that clause in the trade. There will be a player with potential at that spot.

Yeah I dont really see why everyone is assuming they'll defer the pick. I expect them to keep it and try to use it as ammo for a young C or D.

Trade f***ing everyone.

Sink or swim with the kids. If Drury gets canned new GM trade Igor before his deadweight contract kicks in.

I think if we dump the gm and the coach we don't have to worry about Igor. It's really telling that he'd only sign a contract with a ntc with Drury. I think this management and staff have a lot to do with how the players are feeling and playing here. There's a lot of mistrust here, it creeps into game time. Kreider and Mika will likely move on and play like real players when it happens. I'm still pissed we dumped Kakko, the rest of the deals I can get over but Kakko was stupid.

They are absolutely keeping the pick, for a few reasons.
1. If Drury isn't canned a first next year won't ever help him win as it's too far down the road.
2. I dont think anyone expects us to finish as far down the standings as we're about to
3. Even if we don't agree we're still in win now mode, a basic retool is gonna happen and that pick will help sooner.

we need to find some players that McDavid is friends with, sign them and trade for them and then use that as the pitch for signing him next offseason. that's the only way to salvage this. even then, this defense core is a complete piece of shit. somehow it feels even worse than when Trouba and Lindgren were here.

Apparently some think we will be bottom 5. There is literally no way that will happen.

Minnesota is in a pretty sweet position.

I get that their team right now is mid with out Kaprizov (and the injuries are worrisome and who knows, he may gtfo after next season) but if they keep him, they have a wealth of shit to surround him with or to use in a trade to surround him with better shit.

The Stramel pick was complete f***ing ass but aside from that, they've crushed it.

To me, the core of this team to build around is as follows

Forwards: Perreault, Cuylle, Berard, JT, Edstrom, Laffy

Defense: Fox, Miller, Borgen

Goalie: Igor

if Panarin wants to re-sign for half of what he’s making I’ll add him to the list as well.

That leaves you Kreider, Mika and Trocheck as veterans to trade for pieces. And Schneider and Othmann as younger guys to move in hockey deals.

I wouldn’t be opposed to moving Laf in the right deal. Same goes for JT but they have no centers in the pipeline so someone gotta play C

The problem with that theory is that you won't know what prospect will be there at those positions -- decision has to be made before the draft.
Agreed to the extent that there are not at least a dozen guys worth considering. Howev, I am not sure that is the case. Well reported this is not a deep draft, but not clear not at least 12-ish worth chance

We f***ing suck.

Presidents Trophy to top 10 pick in 12 months.

If only we had realized just how crucial one of the league's worst players, overpaid, mattered to our roster.

Including a 32 year old as a core piece to build around is a recipe for disaster
