Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

Laf will throw you a bone, then steal your dog bed.

We have the whole summer to keep kicking a dead Kreider, but we have to remember that opposing GMs are salivating at the the thought of lowballing us into oblivion.

If it's GMs plural, thats how bidding wars get started.

I don't think they're going to do poorly for Kreider. A bunch of the "contenders" are going to fall short this year and are going to look for a veteran forward with a track record and the UFA market is really, really shallow. Teams overlook bad seasons alllllll the time and I'd venture to say that almost every GM would look at Kreider and think "we can fix him."

Plus he's actually a reasonable bet for a bounce back. Not 50 goal bounce back, but I could see him scoring 30+ again next year.

......
yes IF IF IF IF IF
someone gives us an acceptable return -- at this pt I'll take decent at min -- then yes CK gets traded
but for the umpteenth time this is not a technique or similar issue a club can correct just w/attention to detail.
Either the guy is sufficiently physically fit at min or he is not
There will be no way to know until next season, when he proves it/or not, and we will see then as we see now.

Shoe on the other foot, you are not gonna pay for Kreider [barring a favor which will cost something else down the line]. You are gonna want to wait AT LEAST half a season to see and be sure he's still got it.

If no one is paying, = likely we have to pay to remove him,
we are better off w/him on LTIR
let him teach Rempe etc how to be a net presence

True but when you reprimand your highest paid players the other guys tend to notice.

Was Gallants biggest fault in his first season. Panarin was awful the first half of that season (Kreider shooting 30% on the PP is the only reason he was above a PPG) and he had multiple opportunities to set the tone and bench or scratch him.

He never did.
You can't just pin this on Gallant.....this has been a failing of nearly every coach I can remember (except possibly Torts). Add to that the fact that your team's owner wants his "stars" on the ice no matter how badly they're playing (gotta put those fannies in the seats) and you come up with a no win situation with the inmates running the asylum. The fact remains that accountability is not a thing in NY.....I've wondered for years who was really calling the shots behind the bench.

It's been Panarin ever since he demanded that he play with Fast.

it starts at the top. When they shipped off tony d and brendan lemeiux in the 2020-2021 season a clear message was sent to the players. We want a country club atmosphere here. You are to act like bankers, not a bunch of union guys.

F that. I want guys who can barely read and are full of rage and anger. This teams core is quite literally full of guys whos favorite hobbies are

1) DJ’ing and playing music (mika)
2) read poetry (kreider)
3) fashion (kandre)
4) sulking at every chance he gets (fox)
5) generally having zero confidence (laff)

We need to tear it down. The core is garbage mentally. We need to bring in guys who are competitive, full of rage and generally want to win at all costs even if it means intentionally hurting the opposition.
This is the most homoerotic way I've ever seen a person talk about sports

This might be the lamest post I’ve seen on here in a while so shout out to you

If you’re such a big fan of mouth breathers Tony and Lemieux, you should become a fan of the KHL teams they play for instead of the Rangers lol

Didn't you know Tony no longer plays in the KHL, but in our very own backyard?

What in the world….

Tony D and Lemieux were illiterate, assholes, and horrible hockey players.

Sorry, but this ain’t how it works.

For those that were too young or weren’t even born yet, this is what the Dark Ages felt like. Overpriced players that underachieve, terrible coaching, not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to be a bottom feeder. Mediocrity to a T.
Yup. Kamensky, Lefebvre, Guy Hebert, Fleury, Bure, Lindros, Rucinsky, Rem Murray, Ciger, Hlavac, Dvorak, Nedved, countless others. Those were some hard years to watch.

Many of those bad years were also bad goaltending years. I think Lindros, Theo, and Bure played better than some Rangers fans give them credit for.

Krieder with 1 big point in the last 9 games.

WARRIOR
INJURED warrior
heroically answering an apparent call requesting/insisting he play
regardless of whether or not he should

context
or,
bend buckle and break in capitulation to the truth of da bern

either works

yes
coupled w/derth of good prospects
and the 1-2 we had, like Bryce Lampman, got injured

There’s no guarantee that it works out and I’m not really drawing a comparison, but it is crazy how San Jose can be in the SCF in 2016, so only 9 years ago, move all of their aging/unmovable contracts like Karlsson/Burns or get a good return for Meier/Hertl and end up with:

Celebrini, Eklund, Smith, Musty, Bystedt
Dickinson, Mukhamadullin, Cagnoni
Askarov

All between 19-22 and with a real chance at drafting Schaefer (or 1st) in a few months, 3 other top 50 picks, and other solid assorted prospects in the pipe. Karlsson was supposed to be unmovable. They cashed out on Burns, Meier and Hertl at the right times. Again, no knowing how it’ll pan out but it’s a kick in the dick that Lafreniere is 23 and Shesterkin is nearly 30 already. Our ages and were always misaligned. Shesterkin is closer to Zibanejad and Panarin, heck even Kreider, in age than he is to Laf.
