Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Yes true but do you trust this organization to forfeit this years pick to keep next years?
It looks like we will be picking around 11-14 range.
Either way sucks To lose a pretty valuable pick but the obvious move is to keep next years.
It won't doubt that they will certainly have 'confidence' that they'll be a cup contender next season somehow

Trouba will be ready for that game. He will have money on the board.

Sharpening his elbows as we speak. Meeka will be picking up his teeth if he wanders through the neutral zone with his usual casual attitude. Remember Laviolette had a conniption when Pelech accidently collided with Mika? That was weird.

Yes, but doubt he makes it there.

There is nothing wrong with getting guys that care; but obviously you also need output. Can't sacrifice too much output
I agree, you obviously need output and production. I was just pushing back on the original idea that its so silly to just want guys to care. For me, that is a baseline expectation and when a team as a whole doesn't meet it - there is probably nothing worse. The product on the ice is unwatchable.

But Panarin scores points! How will we replace his production!

Anyone watching this team this season and wants to keep Trocheck is insane.
It's funny. Weren't people campaigning for him to be captain a year ago?

He's delivering a career avg season, but doesn't have that 20-40 game run of being a PPG player like in other past seasons. I don't think that last year was the last "good season" for him, and his contract isn't bad at all.

I'd keep him. I don't think that's insane.

The only thing that makes sense with this team is that something bad happened in that locker room that has not been made public. And one of the reasons it has not been made public is that it involves an important player that is still on the roster. With this amount of talent on the team, you don't go from the President's Trophy to this. Injuries haven't even been that severe all season long. The teams around you in the standings are basically handing you that WC2 and even WC1 spot if you really wanted it.

I definitely think there is a "non-hockey" reason for such a big decline. We'll never really know unless someone writes a book in ten years.

I disagree with a lot of this. Miller goes to the dirty areas far more regularly than anyone else in the top six, unless we are settled on Cuylle being top six. To me he’s on the cusp. One of the few guys that shows pushback when the most of rest of the team seems content being abused. Does he play “the right way” 100% of the time? No. But very few players in this league do.
He’s a legit 1C that puts up points (basically a ppg for this team) and plays with an edge. No he’s NOT prime Messier. Who is? But he’s a player this team needed, and needs more of IMO. And at the price point the trade was more than a good one for us. Plus he’s paid less than Zibs and the cap is only going up. Of all the problems with this team, Miller is WAY down the list.
You are right. JT chips the puck in to the corners and goes to get it himself. He also goes to the net and not only stands there but fights back against cross checks. What other dirty areas is he supposed to go to?

If someone can give a scouting report saying he's a plus skater, then sure!

I'd rather give this 1st away since next year's draft is deeper and there would be no protection if the wheels fall off again.

Heres a full games worth of shifts!

He needs a sandwich or 8. He might be listed at 190 but theres no way he's 190. If you looked at him from the side he'd be invisible.

Thats not a good thing or a bad thing (he's 17 and he's got length and time to fill out) but just an observation. Dude is a bone rack.

Laviolette and Kreider NEED to go in order for this team to move forward. We probably are stuck with Zibanejad until he proves he's still a decent player. Hopefully 93 starts DJing again this summer to get that low T back up. Panarin and KAM should go if the return is good.

They quit when Drury called them out on the Western canada trip. their response was putrid and it led to trouba being forced out against his will. Kreider started using the back injury excuse around that time (was it your 2nd or 3rd lumbar, Chris? I cant remember). The team had a slight bump after JT got here and the 4 nations tournament, but once the deadline passed and we sold off Lindgren, the rest of the veterans saw the writing on the wall and mostly have quit again. trocheck and Mika saying the Rangers have been playing well is as delusional as it gets. if Drury doesnt fire laviolette and move out Panarin, Kreider and Mika, they should fire him and hire someone else.

Probably way too risky to spill too much info while they're still in the league. My guess is it'll be some guy like Vesey.

I think the majority of the team is sick of Laviolette, Panarin and Kreider's shit. especially the younger guys. the delusional takes from trocheck and Mika after games probably arent helping either.

The guy is likely playing with a broken hand and also, how many times are we going to do this with players playing above their heads? Trochek is paid like a very good 3C. $5.625m is not a lot of money and honestly, if Zibanejad were having a 'normal' season, he'd be the ideal 3C.

Ottawa and Columbus are playing three times in the next few weeks. Those points will be distributed in the playoff race. Ottawa lost to Buffalo last night. Those two points for Buffalo are meaningless. In the three Ottawa-Columbus games, those points will factor into the playoff race. The Columbus-Islanders game. Two points for Columbus. One point for the Islanders. I thought Columbus was a near lock after they beat Detroit in back to back games. They have won two games in the last three weeks. Columbus is getting healthier. Boone Jenner returned a few weeks ago. Sean Monahan returned against the Islanders.

San Jose takes Matthew Schaefer

The Rangers select Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit from the Ontario Hockey League

If the Rangers select in the top 4 they're taking Hagens wether they pick 1 or 4.

He isn't the BPA at 1 or 2 and maybe not even 3 but they will not be able to resist the USA Hockey or BC connection.

Doesn't matter if Schaefer or Misa are better (and they are.)
