Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

JT Miller has been back for 20 games and the culture isnt changed so time to declare this move another loss for the Rangers. Do you guys hear yourselves? Gee, I wonder why the organization has a problem with being patient and rushing things. It's the same faulty logic around wanting to deal Schneider and K'Andre and Laf and Fox. What do the next 5 years look like? Based on the moves they've made it looks like JT and Trocheck as the veteran leaders for a team increasingly led by its young homegrown players. Aka exactly what it should be.

JT is here to be a leader. The Rangers couldnt develop one during the rebuild and the veterans we paid didnt want to be the guy, so they gave it to meathead Trouba. It's not a "tuffnuss" or "alpha male" thing. Be mad at fan faves like Kreider and Panarin who couldnt be bothered to lead from the front. That's why JT is here. As others have pointed out, there's a reason he runs every huddle. Mika and Kreider are too busy checking the iPad to see why they flubbed their most reason scoring chance (one too many passes).
Can we stop grouping Schneider in with the list of players it’d be shortsighted to give up on

at 13 would he be someone to draft?
Yes, but doubt he makes it there.
I would actually rather watch a highly competitive and motivated team lose games they're killing themselves to try and win vs whatever this lazy, careless bullshit has been this season.
There is nothing wrong with getting guys that care; but obviously you also need output. Can't sacrifice too much output

I disagree with a lot of this. Miller goes to the dirty areas far more regularly than anyone else in the top six, unless we are settled on Cuylle being top six. To me he’s on the cusp. One of the few guys that shows pushback when the most of rest of the team seems content being abused. Does he play “the right way” 100% of the time? No. But very few players in this league do.
He’s a legit 1C that puts up points (basically a ppg for this team) and plays with an edge. No he’s NOT prime Messier. Who is? But he’s a player this team needed, and needs more of IMO. And at the price point the trade was more than a good one for us. Plus he’s paid less than Zibs and the cap is only going up. Of all the problems with this team, Miller is WAY down the list.
Yep. 100 percent.

"Where's Chris" didn't come from his "beast factor" on a nightly basis. It came from him disappearing for large periods (games) at a time. This year, he's just disappeared entirely.

Again, if you're that f***ing hurt that you're that f***ing bad then don't f***ing play. Don't talk to me about how hurt he is but he's honky dory to play 4 Nations.

Run those numbers again from 1/1 - 3/24 and talk to me again. Regardless - the Rangers center depth is SO BAD that losing him makes the Rangers even worse.

And, yes, if bern being right means the Rangers get worse with his trade proposals then bern is right most of the time.
A - your attempt to rewrite history is and will continue to be EPIC FAIL
we all saw and know how Chris has been the dominant physical presence on Rs up until lately, due to injury. He did not disappear in prior years for whole periods.

And it is not clear who is insisting he play despite being injured, whether it is him, the club, or both
so stop

1. "Run those numbers again from 1/1 - 3/24 and talk to me again."
Glad he's returned from the dead, his woeful defense and lack of adequate effort remains a basis for condemnation. Same is inexcusable x 2.
The post I quoted provides all the data you need, even w/too little too late effort.
Don't bother wasting my time until you first capitulate to that reality, which you persist on ignoring.

2. "Regardless - the Rangers center depth is SO BAD that losing him makes the Rangers even worse."
= yet ANOTHER example of stupid win now.
Eye test proves this club has not got enuf to get close to cup barring insane rash of injuries to opponents
Zib + other vets, we need to sell high on now.

3. "And, yes, if bern being right means the Rangers get worse with his trade proposals then bern is right most of the time."
too busy to detail that now, but no, and also it is obv they have usually not listened to me and hindsight proves they have suffered the consequences

No, Schneider is a keeper as a rule, unless, exception to the rule, an exceptional return can be had

Like I've said
Ks are legit concerned, no righty shot RD depth
Doughty, wheels could fall off overnight
they are keeping Clarke, Spence

Schneider is a premium get
ad zib at half = immediate useful RW, depth pivot

throw in Jones, useful depth D playing either side
-----

Byfield
Dvorak = good LD prospect former 1st rounder, already a yr marinating
Helenius = huge add w/Rempe + Edstrom!

DO IT

Hey Puss, did she even exist?

I would keep Igor, Fox, Schneider, Borgen, Cuylle, Othmann, Trocheck, and JT. Get anything you can for the rest of them.
why keep JT? He is 32 and he's surely gonna sulk being around a bad team. See if you can get a player and a good pick for him.
The trade is a disaster because its looking more and more likely Pitt will be getting our unprotected pick next year. If this team is gonna bottom out/rebuild/Retool why keep him around???

Don't we literally get to choose regardless of where we finish this season?

Yes true but do you trust this organization to forfeit this years pick to keep next years?
It looks like we will be picking around 11-14 range.
Either way sucks To lose a pretty valuable pick but the obvious move is to keep next years.

We're currently sitting closer to 10th or 11th OA, by P%. And we're playing some atrocious hockey, so maybe trending to the 9th-11th OA range.
