If Fox gets a pyramid then what about Mika? Are we naming the Garden after him?

After this season Mika will only have Ratelle above him in goals scored by a center. Total points scored by a center sits him at 4th overall right now. 2 more seasons and he will climb to 2nd.

Genuinely curious what people think of his legacy when looking at his career objectively.
If he stays on his current trajectory, his legacy won't be looked upon as kindly as you'd like it to be.

You can keep telling yourself that. He will pass Vickers and Hadfield this very season. Check the stats or are they not fitting into your narrative?

What your emotions are telling you are not the facts.

So what you’re telling me is that Ron Francis and Marcel Dionne are better players than Steve Yzerman and Mario Lemieux, right? They all played the same position after all, and Francis and Dionne both outproduced Yzerman and Lemieux

I know the point your trying to make, but Francis was pretty close to Yzerman if you ask me.

At least you don't wanna trade Fox like some of these animals.
Since we've met and like each other, I'm gonna consider this a term of endearment

like when Cher mentioned it to Nicholas Cage in Moonstruck!

That said, don't bring out my inner Eric Burdon

He does. Against all logic, Bern thinks it's a good idea to trade him before it kicks in this summer, as if that's ever happened. Imagine the PR nightmare.
Yes, the one that would last for less than 3 seconds b'c we flipped KAM into a similar athlete but just starting elc, AND got a high upside C at good $ for decent term, which is a position of need right now, while if the martians kidnapped Shesty today we could suit up Garand w/Quick. Oh yeah, and pick

Still waiting for your example of a team committing huge dollars/years to an elite player and then trading them before the extension kicks in.

That is not a comparison you can make. We are talking about the Rangers here. We havent had a Yzerman or a Lemieux. As it stands now, Mika is one of the best centers ever played for the Rangers.

We had a Messier & a Ratelle who were head & shoulders better than Mika has been or will ever be. He's not close to the Mt Rushmore of this team no matter how hard you'll try to convince yourself of this.

It is absolutely a comparison I can make. You are saying that the reason he's better than players from the team's past is because of points and only points. I ask if Francis is a better player than Lemieux because Francis had more points, you don't just get to go "No, I don't like this comparison."

Look man I get you like Zibanejad a lot. Hell maybe you're even related to him like Webster is to Zucc. But he ain't there man. At *best*, he is the 4th best C in Rangers history. At *BEST*. Because he's not better than Messier, and he's not better than Ratelle, and he's not better than Boucher.

I love how people are using the logic that Mika and Kreider are gonna statistically be some of the best Rangers of all time when in reality it just sums up how absolutely pathetic this franchise has been since its existence.

Our all time centers were pretty sad when we did this HFNYR Top Rangers of All Time, and it really hasn't got much better. Mika wouldn't be out of place at 4th on that list :(

I give you Messier even though Mika will surpass him in goals and total points and he still have ways to go until catching Ratelle but at some point you old timers need to let go of the past. Point production matters in this kind of discussions. No matter how hard you try to clutch on to your old glory days.

As I answered Old Yeller above, I concede on Messier but he already surpassed Boucher by a wide margin and we cant hold on to players from over 100 years ago as these gods that are untouchable.

When does production matter in your opinion? I mean 4th best center all time for a original six franchise is a great accomplishment no?

If that were the case that would be reflected in other areas. He's still driving the f*** out of offense for this team. With the passing, I'm talking strictly about getting out of his own end in driving transition, not what he does in the OZ.

If there IS a legitimate criticism of his game this year, it's that he's shooting less. He's been close to a 2 shot per game guy the last few years, he's under 1.5 right now. The 0 goals for in how ever many games its been is a statistical anomaly that will correct itself in time (so were the 17 that he scored last year for that matter) but he's probably in his own head a bit there but he's always been a bit guilty of overpassing. None of that really has to do with foot speed though.

There are ways to free him up a bit but those points have been beaten to death in here so I'll spare you from having to read them again.

Yeah jumping a non fighter in a game that you're losing by 7 is not what the Rangers need more of.
See I see a guy never getting into shooting positions and it's again bc he doesnt move with urgency in the zone. He relies on deception and while I don't expect him to ever be a burner there was a time he would be aggressive on the line with shake and bake and walk down the slot or dish from the slot. This year feels a lot more like passing from the perimeter except for a 1-3-1 on the pp
