why would ana do that even straight up?
they are greatly improved -> right direction, but not contending...

keep Kreider
ditch the drek
Zegras is overpaid, a punk, underperforming, losing value by the day and Anaheim's management doesn't see him as a core piece.

I like the bottom article in that. The FOX glowing puck. Nothing like having neon streams all over your TV.

I still love that Joe Thornton had the guts to call anyone else “soft.” I lived in the Bay Area during their heyday, and to this day I have no respect for Thornton purely because of how awful he was in the playoffs. It pissed me off to watch that Sharks team.

That being said, the next iteration of the Rangers does need to be tougher, especially mentally. There are way too many headcases on this team.

Does Drury sell Lindgren the deadline? The Rangers are in a playoff spot/third in Metro or WC(we will see) but it will take a miracle for them to win a championship. Colorado traded a first round pick in 2026 to Philadelphia to rent Sean Walker.

The Rangers played better without Lindgren. You can make the argument the team sets up better without Lindgren.

Miller-Fox
Schneider-Trouba
Jones-Mancini

Drury acquires a better bottom pair D than Ruhwedel to rotate with Jones. Scan the waiver wire. It should not be hard. Trouba gets moved in the summer. He would be more amendable to a summer trade. His wife's hospital residence ends next year. Trouba doesn't have a say with the 15 team NTC to every team. This guy may not report or he would be miserable having to report to another team. The Rangers retain 25% and make Trouba a $6M player. One year remaining. Becomes a 12 team list in July.

First round pick for Lindgren. Every team is looking for D at the deadline. The rental market is very thin. The Rangers acquire another first round pick to rebuild their prospect pool.

What about the bad players with locker room cred who don’t have a ton of value?

Seems to be that they'd be the optimal ones to move.
Ideally, we would trade those players and bring in much better players, but we have the unfortunate reality that other teams are trying to win too. They aren't going to just take our crap and give us back gold in return. Dumping our bad players isn't going to magically fix this team.

I like Kreider and would love for him to stay and set all kinds of records, but we have to consider what's best for the team. Kreider turns 34 in April and has 2 years remaining on his contract. His best value to the Rangers, right now, might be as a trade piece.

I think you're over-valuing Lindgren quite a bit. It would be a monumental misstep for a GM to trade a 1st to rent him.

We would very likely improve the team immediately just by scratching him; the start we had to the season when we had three capable D pairs was no mirage. He's cooked.

Feelin' good on a Wednesday
This sums it all up for me and it’s not even hard to admit.

Many of us said going into camp that there was an uninterested malaise hanging over the entire season before they even dropped the puck.

No new faces really, no exciting rookies breaking the lineup. We knew what 95% of the lineup would be and what to expect.

It’s a foregone season with manufactured Cup expectations that the casual fan may fall for but the diehards know it’s not worth the investment.

But we watch. We’ll always watch.
I hate to say it but I've barely watched.

Have been barely on this board also.

It's exactly what @Machinehead mentioned.

There's no reason to be interested when the outcome is already obv

Well, looks like the bottom is falling out for this core. Was a year or two earlier then I (and most others) believed it would. It was a trade off by keeping Z, Kreider and getting Trouba and Panarin to buildt around (lindgren looking done already at age 26 is just the cherry on the top).

A shorter rebuild often ends with a shorter window. We are at a crossroad now, we can try for a couple more runs (that will most likely be short and bitter), or do a retool.

Trade away Igor, Vesey, Lindgren & Smith during this season, trade Trouba (50% retained), Kreider & Panarin (if he wants, 50% retained) in the summer of 25.

Go into next season with something like

Laf - Trocheck - Berard
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko
Othman - Zinbadejad - Perrault
Edstrom - Carrick - Rempe
Brodz

Miller - Fox
Jones - Schneider
xxx - Mancini

UFA Goalie
Garand

Might not be pretty at all, but the aformentioned trades gives us ammo for trading for younger talent, and a ton of capspace to get a UFA more inline age-wise with Laf, Fox & co.

Compared to the standard "burn it to the ground" rebuilds we have a number of young players and decent prospects already in the system. 3 foeward rookies and 1 defence rookie might be atleast 1 to many, but might be able to get a ok player one 1 year deal or take a decent player on a short contract from a team with cap issues.

I’m going to the game in Raleigh tonite and Kreider is my favorite player. This all couldn’t wait another week to unfold?

Anyway, CK deserves to be traded, but I think Housley is the biggest problem.

It was amazing watching a glowing overlay that had no depth perception.

Did the puck go wide left? In? Wide right? Who cares? Thats not an important part of the game or anything.

I did appreciate it when the puck was a long the near camera boards and wasn't visible without it.

If the Rangers get a 1st for Lindgren I’ll stop complaining about Drury for a few weeks

But that won’t happen so

I’m also not expecting a big trade in general anytime soon. None of these teams want to take on big money mid season.

No one could miss open net like Nedved could, not even Strome
Kakko is pretty good at it, don't sell him short.

Its obvious.

They put Cuylle whos been one of the best, if not the best forwards on the team this season with him and it still doesnt help.

Mika is shot to shit
Berard also worked his bag off more in the first period than mika did during the entire game. Embarrassing for Mika.

I disagree 100% and I say this as a fan for 60+ years who has gone through endless cycles of up and down. When you are a fan, you are a fan always: good times, bad times, exciting times, frustrating times, times that make you want to pull your hair out, times where you are walking on air.

There is always something to be interested in, always something to root for. Always something to think about, always something to keep you occupied.

It might be the group dynamics on a team and as a sports fan, I am always fascinated by group/team dynamics.

It might be players on the arcs of their careers. It might be rivalry games.

It is often young players that give you hope for the future.

It might be players who came up young, struggled, and eventually became fine players.

Yes, it might even be players struggling with diminishing skills as they age.

We all want to win...that is the point isn't it? We all love to play armchair GM and coach...that is always fun.

It is always interesting....last night I was able to talk with my son, an avid Ranger fan, for almost an hour about the team. That was great. Of course, we solved all that ails the team.

I have seen one championship in my 60+ years. On balance, this team has likely brought me more frustration than happiness. But do I regret any of it? Not one second.

So you had better believe that I will be watching tonight (though I don't have great expectations on the outcome)...I will be watching Friday and Saturday. I will likely watch 65+ games this year.

This team is maddeningly frustrating and disappointing. But so what?

strong agree to nearly all the above
think quick prob can spell that ufa G 1 season and help w/Garand, Domingue supports
also keep Kreider for now unless too big a return to pass on
keeping Kreider short term enables Othmann to be used in a deal, and that can possibly move deadwood

I would look at creative ways to ditch Zib half retained with idea he waives if to an ultimate relocation of choice

zib term is a concern so we may have to have 3rd team help to get his # down again almost 50%, so
first 8.5 to 4.25 by us
then another 2 down to 2.25 by a 3rd team
this ^ is of course gonna cost and how much will decide if worth it

the idea then is as bad as zib has been, at 2.25 to a team which has appeal b'c it is close = LI? or other looks like a fit on paper = LA ?

these might get us out from under the nmc issue

it will still cost and we likely still take a bad contract or 2 but w/no nmc, while some pain, at least we can jettison zib
