Friedman and the Athletic both said Drury sent an e-mail to all 31 GMs after the Edmonton game saying Trouba and Kreider are available. Anyone else find that hilarious? He was probably rage posting in the GDT right before that.

That’s exactly what popped into my head as well. Says something that the anonymous GM in the Athletic said they would only directly name names in a league wide email if they were about to put the player on waivers. Funny but doesn’t exactly instill confidence in Drury’s ability.

Now is the time for a GM change, if there is any feeling Drury hasn't done his job. You would want him making some of the next moves he needs to make. Totally feels like it could be a crossroads and I wouldnt be shocked to see Drury dumped imminently.
I like a lot of what Drury has done, but I hated the run it back one last time strategy and now this vet core which was never good enough to begin with has turned country club and tuned out the coaching staff.

Drury the guy who’s identified that this core isn’t getting it done.

Drury the guy who’s willing to pull the trigger on moves this early, and pushing out vets where other gm’s would double down and go the opposite route?

Yes let’s move the GM who tries to keep firsts and seems to have a very good pulse of a team.

Drury the guy who just convinced Laf to take money off his deal?

He's definitely had ups and downs, hes also had some great luck. I'm not saying it's 100% the best move to make, but the timing feels right. Do you give him another shot at a retooling, or do you let some fresh voices in the room to make these impactful next moves? Just feels like a natural crossroads.

Drury isn’t being fired midseason. The biggest problem with this organization and roster build is Trouba’s contract and Drury didn’t hand that one out.

Team is stuck as long as Trouba is here.

Lindgren has to go.

Mika Zibanejad has been a major detriment. A lot of it looks mental. Just poor, poor, poor decisions.

I don’t know what to say anymore. After the last two games this one required a big response. It was awful. The defense was just as bad.

Sorry if not clear - I wasn't necessarily advocating, more predicting that IF that is the feeling in the front office, the timing right now would make sense since the next moves made will be very impactful for the org.

Wonder if there is a trade to be made with Florida? They've lost 6 out of 7. It's looking like they're coasting after winning the cup. Too much time on the beach and not enough time practicing. Did anyone watch the Amazon show? Matthew Tkachuk spends his time hanging out in his pool and driving his golf cart around. Verhaeghe signed his new long term deal and took that as a sign that he doesn't need to work anymore. Bob is back to playing like the player that got benched prior to the start of the playoffs two years ago.

People reflexively decide its management's fault and retrofit whatever reasons they need to after. Doesn't need to make sense.

I’d argue Mika is a bigger problem at this point. We have a “1C” that is a boat anchor and he’s signed for 5 more years.

Trouba has intangibles that an old school hockey GM will fall for. We’ll be able to move him at some point

Drury has done nothing up to this point to suggest to me he’s a great GM. Any idiot could see this core wasn’t going to get it done.
you mean the team who made the conference finals 2/3 years.
The team who’s got a vezina nominee,
A Norris nominee, a potential hart finalist.

Most GMs are Uber conservative, don’t want to blow things up. And are unwilling to pull off huge foundation shaking moves mid season.

Drury has pulled off trades before that have been fantastic fits in the short term.
The smith trade this year was a great move so far.
I really don’t have an issue with Drury moving vets, or prospects like Othmann.

I don’t think he’s gonna touch any big prospects or his firsts. He’s shown to be Uber conservative there which we’ve all appreciated.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned on here today is the timing of a potential trade right before Thanksgiving potentially separating a player from their family. I’m sure none of us care about that part but it’s another aspect of these trade talks.

Yeah, I mean anyone who’s not just looking at the box score could tell you that despite the team having success, there was underlying flaws that would catch up. The defense being bad, goaltending masking mistakes, etc

Also Drury is relatively conservative in general, idk where this idea came from that he’s some big risk taker. His biggest trade was the Buchnevich deal that was one of the worst trades of the last decade. And the rest of his deals have been short term rentals that ultimately resulted in nothing

He’s got more bad than good. I don’t know why people trust him to make these important decisions coming up

Bingo. Core is soft both physically and mentally. It wouldnt be the worst idea to do a quick rebuild.

If at the TDL we decided were going to enter a short little 2 year re-tool if we made sheshty, kreider and panarin available at 50% retained (I know you can only have 2 guys retained on the books), we could absolutely load up on top tier prospects, draft picks and young nhl players who are on the precipice of being ready to compete at the nhl level

He's been one of the worst 5v5 players in the league this year, he's 33 going on 34, his effort level is poor. I get it's a small sample of him being this bad, but he's looked terrible all season and he's not someone who can fall back on his elite skill. He might just be hitting the wall quicker than expected.
Hitting the wall at almost 34 isn’t quicker than expected, it’s slower than expected.

Dolan has a knicks team thats winning games. He's not paying attention. This is the perfect time for Drury to make a legit change.

When the knicks are losing is when Dolan pays attention.

Out of curiosity do you think Mika is the only vegan/vegetarian in the league?
Like I get the Mika hate right now, but there are better attacks on him than his diet.

I agree, just moving Kreider and hoping it shakes up the locker room is not a solution. But at this point, in my eyes it really doesn't matter, this core is done, they are not winning anything, and if it means the team takes a step back, which they were going to do anyway because they traded Kreider than so be it. Obviously there needs to be further moves made, including trading Trouba, Lindgren, trying to cajole Zibanejad into moving perhaps swapping Miller for a different LD. It's time.

Moving Kreider doesn’t make the team better this season but it shouldn’t be designed to do that anyway.

If you’re acknowledging this team doesn’t have it, and they don’t seem to have it any more (in fact less) than the 23-24 team or the 21-22 team did, then you start trying to make a future team that can win. Moving Kreider wouldn’t be about getting better this year, it would be about finally recognizing the need to start investing in the 2.0 core. They could get pieces that could supplement that, plus much needed cap space for the kids.

Kreider’s 34 and probably can’t witness the other side of even a retool while playing at a high level. Panarin maybe could.
