There's a lot of speculation here. I can't stand the guy as a player but every indication is, Trouba is a very good captain. Just because a team is in a funk, doesn't mean it's Lord of the Flies in the locker room.
he's a "good captain" because the other players like him. Which is a good thing, but theres got to be more to being a leader than that. You think everyone on the Penguins liked Crosby, or everyone on the Avs likes MacKinnon (who is captain in all but official title due to Landeskog RIP).

You need a Captain who also leads by example on the ice and holds the team accountable. The helmet toss TM was 2 years ago.

I have to think including Kreider's name in the leak has to be more about getting the phone to ring and also as a shot across the bow to the core. I really don't see how trading Kreider (unless from some no brainer upgrade that seems unlikely to be out there) makes this team more of a contender.

Trouba on the other hand should pack up his palette and canvases and go sit at JFK waiting for a call.

Just saw the tweets from Friedman, Kaplan, and Vince.

No doubt this is an intentional leak from the GM. He's trying to light a fire underneath these guys. A warning shot for this upcoming summer unless they turn it around and win the Cup.

I know he's 34, but Kreider needs to get an absolute haul if he's dealt. No mention of Zibanejad and Lindgren is a bit concerning.
Because they CAN.NOT.TRADE.MIKA Full NMC. Mods can we get this in bold huge letters are the top of the forum?

Two things:

1. This was always one of my worries with hiring Laviolette. He struggled to get an entrenched veteran core in Washington to buy into his system and was met with similar apathy. It was a quick band-aid solution to try to paper over Gallant, and it just wasn't the right move for the team at this time.

2. I don't want to get into what it would cost, but I will never understand how someone who is as good as Brady Tkachuk is at hockey gets so much hate on these boards, even since his draft year. He'd instantly be one of our best players

It's a leak from Drury himself to kick these guys in the ass a bit. I doubt anything of substance happens during the year. The draft and offseason are completely different animals though.

I dont think Drury is going to leave his fate in the hands of these players he doesnt trust. If things dont improve dramatically, big trades will happen imo. He is getting fired this summer if we get the same outcome with the same players.

Thats a good point. If he does nothing and the team does poorly he should be getting canned.

But if he makes good trades he could save his job.

Drury f***ed up by not getting rid of at least one of Trouba or Lindgren this summer. This is on him.

idk what kind of centers you expect we can find, they won't be any extablished 1C's thats for sure. Gonna need to look for some buy low candidates a la Zibanejad in 2016
I'd rather roll with what they have now than give anything up for Zegras. I hate him that much. Just fix the D, Chris. That's what's killing this team.

Players can waive their NMC's. It happens all the time. Insulting to my intelligence being here for almost 20 years.
It's insulting to read people asking why Mika isn't above Kreider on a trade list. When there's a very obvious reason. Length of service doesn't absolve anyone of criticism. As Kreider is proving.

“Ex-Ranger Chris Kreider scores 12 goals in playoffs to help Team XYZ win the Stanley Cup”

I never been more convinced of anything in my life. I can feel it in a deep, unlit part of my brain despite hoping otherwise.

Like a raspy whisper from an empty graveyard. My higher human functioning tells me there’s no such thing as ghosts while my base animal instinct says “RUN”

Well, he deserves to win. And he won't do it on this team so why not move to a team where he can? It's the next gen that has a chance IF Drury et al. do a good job.

The sample on this chart is totally F'd. He played 31 games mostly injured last year and everyone on the Ducks sucks this year.

The Ducks also played him at LW most of the past two seasons, and Zegras is much better at C than at LW.
Ya the chart stuff is silly. Dumbed-down, oversimplified. It also leaves out his first full season where he had 60 points as a 20 year old.

I remember last deadline these twitter heads were putting up these dumb charts, the worst one was Monahan. And I didn't even want the guy last deadline, largely because of the injury concerns. But they put up this stupid chart with this meaningless sample size. It mightve been like his last 3 years. And they just trashed him, Monahan sucks blah blah blah. Zero context. The fact was that he had been an injured mess the last few years. The guy was always a fantastic player, he's just been dealing with injuries, playing through them. Last year he was relatively healthy, the guy put up ~60 points. He has 20 points in 20 games in Columbus right now. And who knows how long it'll last, I wouldn't trust his durability. But he was always a good player. These guys just look these stupid charts up with zero context and just yap away. It means a whole lotta nothing

The team isn't playing well and they've lost against pretty much every team that's a challenge and it's not the goalies......or not very much. Mika's line has been shit......what I've seen is against the top centers going back into last season Mika just loses battle after battle. Barkov owns him. He wasn't competitive enough against Winnipeg. Only watched one period against Edmonton but my guess is McDavid was owning him too. That said Kreider would be easier to move because he's a cheaper contract with less term.

It might be easy to move Kreider.....it might not depending on what the Rangers would want. We'll see. I think Trouba won't be as easy. I don't think Zibanejad will be easy to move either. With those two it might cost us other pieces to move and/or we probably retain. Not sure we'll be moving on from Lindgren right away.
