The PP shouldn't have even been a top 5 one in the season.

Edmonton has guys like Mcdavid, Draisaitl Bouchard
Colorado has Mack, Makar, Rantanen

This team has like Panarin as the only real offensive threat.

Fox is elite defensively but doesn't compare to others like Makar offensively.

Trochek, Zib, Kreider are all meh complimentary players.

This is why ppl are saying to put Laf in the top unit because he has much higher offensive potential than those three. Not saying he is a superstar but still has that potential. No reason to not try him there.
Panarin and Fox are elite offensive players.
Kreider is literally the best net front man in the nhl.
Are you comparing Bouchard to Fox and implying Fox is the weaker?

4th best PP% over the last 5 years (since Panarin signed) but it "shouldn't be" that good so let's blow it up.

We may be able to get by with Zibs sucking and Panarin being less effective in the playoffs.... But Tuba and Lindgren have got to go.

The next big move needs to be for a top4LHD.... after dumping the dead weight.

Also doesn't help that our coaching staff does not put the best players on the ice because of 'reputation' and 'ego'. There's no overthinking it. Play your best players. Laffy was that guy last playoffs.

1st, that’s not what I said we should do… I said we should work on having alternatives for when the current 1st unit inevitably shits the bed.
2nd, whether or not any other teams do it is irrelevant to whether it would be good for NYR…
alternatives should be slight tweaks to the current PP1 strategy/personnel. The Vince tweet that I sent out was very much not that. Unless you think that kandre Miller distributing to Panarin is a good way to keep the 120 point train rolling

Rangers going with a weak lineup tonight too.

G-Quick, Domingue
D-Mancini, Mackey, Bowey, Fitzgerald, Scanlin, Hillman.
F-Edstrom, Othmann, Berard, Sykora, Groulx, Erne, Chmelar, McConnell-Barker, Roobroeck, Blidh, Sucese, Jenkins.

So I'm to get from this that Trocheck will remain attached to Panarin?
Yes. There has been one unit at camp with Laf/panarin but it has been the second unit, and no way Panarin will be on the second unit who gets 20 seconds of time.

This has nothing to do with anything I said. I’m not Vince. BUT trying out different alternate combos and getting them some familiarity will be helpful when the regular PP tanks it in the post season again. I couldn’t care less if Pan doesn’t hit 120 pts in the regular season if we do better in the playoffs.

Strange take on Fox’s offense skills, he plays a pretty good point lol. Also Krieder for all of his warts is the best net front player in the league, I’ll take that on my PP1.

But looking at the math, did the first unit really shit the bed? Or get less chances?
The continued back and forth on the power play is hilarious. We’re a top 5 unit.
We’re a top 5 unit either way.

The playoffs were a top 5 unit. Until they put the whistles away in the last 2 rounds.
But what's kind of alarming is the fact that you're surprised that they put the whistles away in the last two rounds? They've only been doing that for like 5 decades. The idea that a hot power play is going to win you a Stanley cup as a little foolish because you're completely relying on the fact that the officiating is going to be consistent and functional, and if we know anything about NHL officiating it's that it is not consistent and that is not always functional.

The last two rounds are essentially a war of will and capitalizing on opportunities. Offensively we just don't have the talent to do that consistently the way that other teams do and what's alarming is that the organization seems to have wanted to double down on the same philosophy that keeps stalling out halfway through the playoffs.

My initial comment was ”why does this team think they need 2 power play units” implying that they want to prioritize them both equally. This was because the tweet showed Fox and Panarin on different units and it would make no sense to do anything other than give them equal time with those two split up. I have no idea what you are even arguing with I never said they can’t try new stuff lol. I’ve been the biggest critic of adjusting PP1

If PP1 had regular movement no one would complain. They score in spite of being stationary which is wild.
