A few morons on Twitter are saying we don't want or need him back. Such clowns.
I can’t recall a Rangers playoff team with better depth. Right now Chytil, Wheeler and Jones waiting in the wings. When the Rangers were making those deep runs in the 2010s they had the likes of Carcillo, John Moore, and Raphael Diaz.

As great as it would be to see Wheeler be able to come back to play after such an injury, I can't see him being a legitimate option, barring multiple injuries later on in the playoffs, if the Rangers advance that far. Still in a non contact jersey and hasn't played a game in months and is reaching 40 years old.

I agree that Chytil would be the 1st player out of the press box if someone is needed. Hell, Brodzinski would be the 2nd player out of the press box (not that I would want to see that happen).

Right on Trouba, not sure why the stats page I looked at has oiSH% against wrong.

Trouba's still at 19:31 so far so they're not playing him all that much less, just not as a matchup guy.

He's getting less usage 5v5 (6th out of 6 D.)

Its a formula that works for him. I generally liked his series against Washington aside from a few moments but Gus+less heavy usage has turned the tide for him.

Our top 4 D (really Lindgren) and the Panarin line have been pretty ass thus far. Amazing they're 5-0 with out their only good line from the regular season being a factor.

I don’t understand how, if healthy, Chytil is “as needed.” He’s supposed to be one of the better offensive players on the team yet we’re talking about him like he’s a dime a dozen fourth liner.

It's not that simple. Where are you putting him? The top 9 lines are all doing well and slotting Chytil in there screws that up. Laviolette isn't going to mess with that until they lose.

@Amazing Kreiderman

I'm thinking that Mika Zibanejad is now the 2nd highest PPG player in the playoffs in Rangers history with a minimum of 45+ games played behind Brian Leetch. Does that seem about right to you?

Leetch 89 in 82 GP

This. Chytil will get his chance. Imo, Roslovic will be the one he replaces, maybe Rempe. Both are currently playing well and doing their jobs. But you don’t scratch anyone from the roster that’s 5-0 in the postseason and 13 of their last 16-17 games have been wins.
Not at least until the first loss.
The playoffs are a war of attrition. We need the big guns to produce its true, and for the most part Zibby/tro/panarin/Kreider have all answered the bell, but you also need heroes every game to step up and help deliver or you’ll only get so far.
Our 3rd line will def factor in on that if they keep playing the way they are.
Goodrow/vesey/rempe etc
Have all stepped up when they had the chance to.
We are going to need that more and more as the playoffs goes on and the competition gets more difficult.
This team has been very good when adversity states them in the face. All season they have been. They just battle and find a way to win.
Our young kids are battle tested. They have played and won game 7”s of long grueling series, and they have also lost to Tampa/NJ when they were up and could/should have put them down…
All that stuff matters.
Shesty is also dialed in. He can steal games here and there as well. He’s that good.
Since getting the yank from his series in Pitt he’s been a model of consistency. Quick is a cup winner and a proven vet who has also showed up big in the playoffs before.
All that knowledge/experience/joy/pain/hurt/loss is this teams identity and should be for years to come

He was great and really productive in 2022 play offs. I was secretely hoping that his underwhelmig performances this regular season only meant that he was intentionally conserving energy for the play offs. Especially after the disappointment last two seasons. And so far, it looks like it might have been true. Hopefully. Fingers crossed he keeps his current pace.

Yeah, I get that. It’s just not something that’s done much in hockey for whatever reason (changing a winning lineup).
that's exactly why when people say "Taking Rempe out after a win is a total Gallant move!!11" i disagree. sticking with what has worked is status quo. being aggressive to pre-empt the opponent is actual coaching.

There’s a lot to consider here and it’s not a positional swap.
Chytil is a great hockey player. He contributes at a high level and does a lot of things better than a lot of other Ranger forwards (not unlike Rempe there) with regards to breakouts, possession and speed through zones, entries, finding space and taking shots.

He may not be as defensively sound as Wennberg, but imo the potential offensive benefit outweighs potential defensive downside.

I don't even really think the question is Chytil vs Rempe. I think it's Vesey vs Rempe, or potentially Vesey vs Roslovic. Chytil is one of the rangers best players period. I dunno if all the trepidation is shades of the old "CHYTIL SAWFT" narrative or what.

I'm also curious - for all those deploying the appeal to authority (Lav knows better because he's the coach), how many believe Chytil should play? I count myself among them - I personally believe Chytil should play but Laviolette has earned the benefit of the doubt. More often it seems here that people only appeal to laviolette when it supports what they personally believe should happen (is that Rempe should play and Chytil should sit).

Why not prevent the next loss by improving the lineup with someone who could add scoring from the third line. We don’t need Rempe to “protect” anyone from anyone on Carolina.

Chytil is our "6th guy in the top 6." Having a top 6 guy on the 3rd line (especially at C) is part of a strong blueprint.

If Remps comes out, I'd put Cuylle on the 4th and ease in Chytil at W. That's just me.

Taking Rempe out while they're crushing with him and putting in a guy so rusty you'd get tetanus looking at him is some galaxy brain shit.

KISS.

Sounds good except last night we played him 2 periods in a 5 period game.
