I thought he sat out due to general fatigue

If that is true, that he sat out specifically because of the knee, then I'm wrong here
 
Jagr was named captain in 2007, played his last game in 2008.

Drury was named captain in 2008, played his last game in 2011.

Callahan was named captain in 2011, played his last game in 2014.

McDonagh was named captain in 2014, played his last game in 2018.

I think Staal should be captain.

I’m surprised you want Staal around for nearly 3 more years (average tenure of the last 4 captains)

Not at all disagreeing with your take on Lundqvist, I think he has been criminally underrated for most of his career...which is saying something, since most people agree he's been elite almost every year.

That being said...where are you getting those finish stats? Looking on hockey-reference, I see he finished 6th in '09, '10, & '11, 2nd in '12 , 3rd in '13. I don't see him finishing 1st ever. Am I missing something?

Exactly. I think gaa and sv percentage...while very useful stats in the past are a little outdated...right now I'm all about the gsaa
To me, personally, it's the most important goalie stat there is. Rangers hemorahaged high danger chances for years now.

If you isolate for 2010-2014. Hank Prime.

You will see a frighteningly good differential.

Most importantly. The W-L was something like

100-1-8 under those circumstances.

Yes, I know. My post was referring to GSAA, Henrik has never been 1st in a season, let alone 1st in a season 5 times.

Corsica. You can't do custom queries, but you can go season by season or aggregate for 5v5 GSAA, or other stats. Goalie Stats - Corsica Hockey

For reference, here was the leader in 5v5 GSAA for the seasons @Blue Blooded was talking about (minimum 2000 minutes):
07-08: Lundqvist (19.15)
08-09: Thomas (21.95) | Lundqvist @ 4th with 10.16
09-10: Lundqvist (25.7)
10-11: Thomas (32.77) | Lundqvist @ 2nd with 15.92
11-12: Smith (19.75) | Lundqvist @ 2nd with 19.13
12-13: Lundqvist (16.37)
13-14: Varlamov (19.08) | Lundqvist @ 2nd with 15.1
14-15: Price (24.58) | Lundqvist @ 6th with 11.59

For an extended look:
15-16: Lundqvist (24.96)
16-17: Bobrovsky (27.47) | Lundqvist @ 13th with 1.45
17-18: Bobrovsky (33.93) | Lundqvist @ 13th with 2.24

So, to make it more digestable...

From 07-08 to 14-15, Lundqvist's 5v5 GSAA (minimum 2000 minutes) has placed: 1st, 4th, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 6th

The following three seasons were: 1st, 13th, 13th

Now here's the real kicker...aggregate of 07-08 to 14-15 (minimum 12000 minutes): Lundqvist comes in 1st at...133.12. The next highest, even if you take out the TOI minimum, is Jonas Hiller at 48.68

Exactly. The league really dropped the ball and it screwed up the playoffs royally, too. Had they called things properly, Caps probably don’t even get past the Pens.

Rangers did not play a strict man to man. They did a man overload...they almost always had their major breakdowns when they went to overload the boards to win the puck....didn't..and the right side defenseman (cough, DeAngelo, shattenkirk, pionk, smith) had to guard both the backside pass and the slot pass all by himself...

It was amazing. They so often would be either caught in a panic mode like...out crap oh crap who do I get because it's a goal either way, or they'd get 1 guy, the other would score and you'd be like...look at that moron..he sucks.

What you're talking about really is only true on the boards. It was a man system in open ice.

On the bolded... for all of his other faults, Girardi was good at that.

The Hockey News has released their Pool Guide for this season and it has the following projections for the Rangers:
  • Pavel Buchnevich: 23 goals, 35 assists
  • Kevin Hayes: 17 goals, 26 assists
  • Chris Kreider: 21 goals, 25 assists
  • Vlad Namestnikov: 15 goals, 25 assists
  • Kevin Shattenkirk: 11 goals, 35 assists
  • Brady Skjei: 5 goals, 25 assists
  • Ryan Spooner: 15 goals, 26 assists
  • Mika Zibanejad: 23 goals, 27 assists
  • Mats Zuccarello: 18 goals, 48 assists
They project Jimmy Vesey to end up with 37 points, Flip Chytil with 32 and Lias Andersson with 26
