If Sam Bennett is so good in the playoffs why hasn't he decided to try and play better in the regular season?

Some players style of play just lends itself to being more conducive to playoff hockey where there is less room. That's been the case forever.

I really don't see Bennett being a 50-6o point guy. If the hope is for 30-35 points and to be a physical presence I could see that.

Only had one first round draft pick in the last 6 years (And none of 21 draft), along with an aging roster with high salaries in a flat cap period, and you can't deal Letang or Malkin because Uncle Mario blocks you.

The Pens window is the next 2 years and after that, it closes for a long time.

That job is a dumpster fire waiting to be ignited.
That will make the job difficult, but not undesirable. For starters they still have a (slightly) open window. Once they miss the playoffs (this year?) the rebuild is probably on. The owners know what they are dealing with. Jobs that become available around the league are almost always distressed situations. More undesirable than Arizona or Florida was? You take the opportunity and work like hell to fix it.

I would add to and/or retain on Deangelo in an attempt to get Valimaki added to the return of Bennett. He'd slot in nicely after Miller and Lindgren, is exempt from Seattle. Puts the horrible Smith/Johnson 3LD carousel to bed.
From another Flames fan stalking this thread ( :( ) the Flames weren't willing to trade Valimaki for Stone awhile back at the deadline. They view him super highly (probably similar to how Rangers fans feel about Miller now) and wouldn't be including him as a throw-in, he'd be a significant piece to add from the Flames perspective.

The majority of posters here aren't expecting Valimaki in a deal. That was the wishings of a scant few.

Sam Bennett Regular Season Career:
CF% 50.7
GF% 44.2
xGF%:50.8

Sam Bennett Playoff Career:
CF% 46.6
GF% 48.4
xGF%:46.9

So is he actually better or are we just randomly claiming that he is? All of his on-ice numbers except the one prone to small sample fluctuations are better in the regular season. His scoring rate is slightly up in the playoffs from ~1.4 pts/60 to 1.6 but again, that's the one more prone to variation.

Don't act like it's some foreign concept, that some players elevate their game/intensity in the playoffs. His style suits playoff hockey. I'm pretty sure he was moved back to Center as well this past playoff.

His style suits our high-skill wingers. He has much better hands and skill over Fast.
