So you'd rather give up next year's 1st round pick than buy out a player? We could buy out Strome and barely suffer any cap penalties at all. Hell, we could buy out Namestnikov too. Between the two of them, the cap penalties would be less than 2 mil per year. We'd save over 5 mil.

we said anything about giving up a first? strome and namestnikov have value we could move either. namestnikov traded at 50% saves $2 mil, buying him out saves $2,666,667...so you'd rather buy him out to save another $666,667 in cap space vs trading him at 50% and getting a mid/late round pick back?

No, that doesn't make sense either. If Gusev is going to get 4 mil, then we are adding cap. We need to shed cap. Do people not understand that?

Well not exactly...Kreider next year 7+ ...Gusev 4..I wonder if the glut in wings if Gusev is true is another move. Or should we go right directly at our biggest need 2C and spend accordingly?

Gorton used the word “rebuild” summer of 2017. Pretty clear when you trade your “# 1” center for a pick & prospect that you’re leaving a sinking ship.

You can look at it both ways. It's pretty clear when you sign Shattenkirk for 6m+ for 4 years, you are not rebuilding.

At the time, it was called a "rebuild on the fly" or "retool". The plan in 2017 was never go through a full rebuild with high draft picks
